Better than when they come up to the house and leave an undelivered notice without ringing a doorbell. Sometimes post guys do that here in Japan because they see a foreign name and panic.

Re: The Bullshit Thread
Honestly they do it in England to, but that one's out of laziness instead.

Re: The Bullshit Thread
It does suck, and it is sad. I see this kind of crap a lot here in Oklahoma, where populist politicians use it in political campaigns.
To keep things in perspective: Folks like the one described have ALWAYS existed. None of us are old enough to remember former Alabama governor George Wallace during the 1960s. There's just now a big public forum on the Internet for folks like to shit all over, or for other people to expose their views.

It's pretty difficult living in America in any elections. Far as I'm concerned they're all idiots and assholes. Third parties might be a positive thing if the population could mobilize enough to actually get any of them elected.

I don't see stuff like that here in Michigan, but back when that Duck Dynasty shit was at an all time high with the comments that dumb old fuck made I saw some really stupid people on Facebook. Until you shake this "god's" hand, just get over yourself and let people like what they want to like.
Fuck you Duck Dynasty. Fuck you so hard.

I really like that "populist politician" description. But I can't help but think that isn't correct because that would be just too depressing. I'd like to think that maybe it's just the ignorant and angry are more determined and better mobilized because it fits into the agenda of politicians.
Although I also try and tell myself this type of shit will die out with the backwards generation that perpetuates it.

There is something to that. Oklahoma regularly ranks last in voter turnout in almost every major election. In this election, though, I think Texas actually did worse in voter turnout than Oklahoma did.

Re: The Bullshit Thread
Politicians on both sides are greedy god damn idiots. We need to have the organization/balls to elect some 3rd parties. I'm not saying it'd be better, but it would erode the status quo enough to make some changes in the long term.

I have yet to see a single person agreeing with him that can think of a better argument than saying "democrats and obama" over and over. I find that even more annoying than what he actually said.

I'm so disheartened. The only thing that keeps me going is blind faith. Connectivity might bring shit together. Like, how we all aren't assholes here. (unless you ask a question in my thread)
Yeah, we aren't all assholes here. I'm the site's official designated asshole.

Re: The Bullshit Thread
This disappoints me so much because if there is a successful manned mission to Mars in my lifetime I KNOW that people will find a way to complain about it somehow.
I'd say dress more professionally if you're gonna show up in something like this but people are acting like this one guy wearing a shirt is like the entire scientific community banded together under a banner of naked chicks.
But really, if it wasn't this, it'd be something else. Like "oh no they're gonna kill the comet people too!" said 100% seriously. Or "why does this matter when I still have to pay for gas?"

Re: The Bullshit Thread
I HATE HATE HATE the argument of "Why should we spend money on (insert cool science thing here) when we still got problems on earth/they took our jobs/etc". BECAUSE IF WE DIDN'T STRETCH THE LIMITS OF WHAT WE CAN DO AS A SPECIES WE'D STILL BE STUPID MONKEYS YOU STUPID UNIMAGINATIVE BASTARD!
I feel like scientific research should be like kickstarter. You can opt out on the taxes for the research but you don't get any access to the resulting technology until much later than all the cool people.

Re: The Bullshit Thread
We land on a comet and all people can focus on is the guy's shirt. This is why we barely make any progress in space travel.
Edit: Also his friend designed and made him that shirt which she gave to him for his birthday recently, which was why he wore it there to show her how much he liked it. Now I am even more irritated.

Yep he wore it to show his appreciation for her support.
I mean i agree to an extent that its kind of inappropriate for that situation its not something i'd wear for that type of thing, but saying its inappropriate, and making the guy (and his friend) cry over it are two very different things

At the end of the day, he made the world a better place for his work. All the people shaming him do nothing to make the world better.
