I struggle a bit in enjoying games when the thing holding me back from being able to fight an enemy/do a mission doesn't have to do with my skill, but simply the fact that I'm underleveled (or something equivalent). So grinding kind of annoys me I guess (I've had to do pretty much none of it in the RPGs/games with levels I've enjoyed the most).

If you pick a Final Fantasy games, I don't think they're too bad at that. Sometimes you wander around a lot trying to figure out what to do so you just kind of level up while you figure things out. Final Fantasy VII was my first RPG and I had no problem getting to the end of the game with my current levels even without grinding. Now when I play it I know everything I have to do so I can speed through it too fast and be too low of a level if I'm not careful, but I like watching everything level up so fast I can't help myself.
Leveling up was the Playstation 1's version of trophies for me.

Matt, whatever game you pick as long as I own it I'll play it with you to have discussions. Most of the games we've talked about on here I own, but don't feel like you have to pick one of those games.

That'd be cool. Before I even asked on here, I had wanted to play a Final Fantasy and a Pokemon, so I am leaning in that direction still. Perhaps Chrono Trigger can happen if I like one/both of those enough. I've always wanted to try a Final Fantasy mostly because you love them so much Bret (I like to try my friends' favorite games). I know I did try Final Fantasy XV, but the combat started to feel a little messy after a while and the one mission I was on was annoying me and I just sort of dropped it. I liked it for the most part and would like to play one of the more highly thought of entries in the series I guess.
Looking at game release dates, I will probably wait until after Kirby and Far Cry 5 release and I play through them as there isn't a ton coming out after that for a few months.

I think I did pretty good with my goals this year...
1. Beat Resident Evil Code Veronica - Finally beat this turd sack. Was fun back when it first came out, but I remember why I stopped playing the first time, and that was due to the game feeling like it would never end. It's amazing how close I was to beating the game and then quit. Said it took me 10 hours to beat, felt like 100 years.
2. Beat Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Beat the game and loved it. Still would have bene a lot more fun if it was played with a normal controller, and I don't care how easy the game would have been.
3. Beat all of the Kingdom Hearts games - Well, I ended up beating two of them. Beat the first and second game. Started up Chains of Memories before I realized the game was dog shit and wasn't gonna put myself through that torture. The other games were just cinematics, and I didn't feel like sitting their for 4 hours. Still have the PSP game to beat, and I'll probably attempt that sometime soon.
4. Beat 3 portable games - Definitely beat 3 portable games, but it might be hard for me to remember which ones. Yo-Kai Watch 2, Tales of Hearts for the Vita, and Zelda's Link Between Worlds. I know there were others in there, but they're slipping my memory.
5. Beat 2 Zelda games - Only beat one. Beat A Link Between Worlds. Honestly, I might ha ve beat A Link to the Past as well but can't remember if that was '17 or '18.
So I'm glad that I attempted all of them, just fell short in the end.
