Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I've played my friend's copies over here, it is pretty fun but I'm so glad I have a 3DS XL because seeing what the fuck is going on is difficult on that small screen I tell ya what.
As for the above stuff...HEY, check out this cool Snake and Raiden cosplay I took a picture of!

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
No offense Kay, I love you but if you were at TGS in the cosplay area around all the boobs you would, like a werewolf, change into something horribly annoying.
That is to say there were a lot of asian boobs. Here:
I am sorry that I'm not pervy enough to take pictures of all the many...many school girl type outfits there were there on the day. But there were many.

When I saw the girl on the bottom picture on Facebook (can't remember her name, but I know she's in Persona 4 and was brass, sassy, and fun. Chia?) I thought "Kay would like this one!

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Didn't spend too much time in the cosplay area. I think there was another, bigger one farther off but we wanted to spend more time in the hall (you're kicked out at about 4:30ish) so we didn't venture over there. Also I felt semi-creepy just taking pictures of people since I wasn't going to wait in line to get the proper posey pictures.

pspiddy wrote:I got into gaming because of Galaga. It fits my OCD nature. On consoles it was Combat!, Joust, Jungle Hunt, and Spider-Man. I was bouncing between parents at the time so we always had the latest Atari. When we got a NES for Christmas I almost broke a controller playing RBI baseball. I was so pissed at that game until recently when I figured out how to beat the CPU on my cfw PSP.
Trip is turning 30 so we should all share our formative gaming stories. It might make him smile and feel less olderer.
Around the time I was born, my father was coming to the end of his job as a truck driver. I've been told by my older brother that his eventual decision to purchase an Atari 2600 was due to his tendency to play (Mrs.) Pac-Man at gas stations during his job (for all I know, he continued to do so as long as any local place still had an arcade cabinet available) so he wanted to bring that experience home. Yes, the Pac-Man port was one of the reasons he bought it and, yes, it was a shitty port. He and I still played the hell out of it as well as so many other games for the system (Combat, Donkey Kong, Pele's Soccer, Super Breakout, Star Wars: The Arcade Game, Star Raiders, Pitfall and on and on and on...)
Getting an NES made for one of the best Christmases ever. The decision to place it in my bedroom was the cherry on top. The only thing I'd have to deal with is whenever someone else wanted to play it, I'd have to allow them entrance into my bedroom. When a Super NES was purchased, same story. No matter, it was awesome.
There was some PC gaming in there as well. My brother would always manage to secure games from Goodwill or the like. So I got play Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Joe Montana Football, Jack Nicklaus Golf, Where In Europe is Carmen Santiago?, Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, X-Wing. I don't recall the name but there was a surgical simulator game that I never understood; I would just make the wound even worse and kill the patient.

Not sure what thread this belongs in, but I love this video: Assassin's Kittens Unity
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I see it now as based on budget and marketing. AAA used to be about quality, but that kind of changed this gen. GTA would be AAA since Rockstar pumps a shit ton of money into development and marketing while Saints Row IV was mid tier because Volition had a lot less to work with even though they made the better game.
FTL is indie, Ni No Kuni and Disgeaa are both mid tier. Not sure what waiting on Last of Us to drop in price has to do with it being AAA.

Well, that's my point. It's not something gamers as a whole decide anymore. It's something the publishers now decide. Even when gamers decided though, one opinion about a game wouldn't change that it was considered a AAA game as a whole. And what it's regarded as a whole is what classifications like these are based on.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Video games seems to be mimicking all the beats of the film industry in fast motion. Triple A games used to be good, like blockbusters used to be amazing in the 70's. Then there were a few cracks in the 80's but mostly good. And now, most of the blockbusters, the things people really pump money into are pretty crap with a few exceptions every year. And even movies that people say they really liked when they came out, lack the spark for people to remember them in a few years.
I think that last sentence describes a lot of AAA games these days. Like films, on occasion, something with a lot of money in it is also good (The Last of Us / Bioshock Infinite) but more often than not it's OK. Not bad, just...lifeless.
Long story short, I too no longer know what "mid-tier" really means. But like greenie, I think AAA sure as hell doesn't correspond to quality anymore necessarily.

What do you guys do with your steam trading cards? If you just sell them I'll gladly trade my doubles or sets I'm not collecting. I figure I can get my level up easily if I collect cards for games with small sets
I'm aware of how dumb that might sound but higher levels get you more booster packs and therefore more cards to sell or trade.

You're sounding dangerously close to Neph, but at least there's a small profit to be made.
