Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I never understood it either like what do they do besides trading and selling?
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Just trading, selling, and crafting badges if you get a full set. They just sit in your inventory otherwise. I see them as a sort of points program like you'd get with your credit card and stuff like that.
if you're good you can sometimes buy things and sell them at a profit but I've only ever done that once.

What do they do, though? Can they be used as coupons toward Steam games or something?

Well if you use them to craft a badge you get a couple of (mostly pointless) bonuses for that game and a bunch of points towards your steam level. I think you get a coupon every time you reach a new level but they're random so I usually end up giving them to friends. A single card on it's own doesn't really have any inherent value

You have to agree to them before you start the game for the first time. Otherwise Killa would still have his Skyrim saves

I wasn't aware anyone ever selected "no" when that screen popped up

What's your guys' stances on HD upgrades being "faithful" to the mistakes of the original game. For example I know the guys who did the Shadow of the Colossus and Ico remakes kept the control quirks in there for better or for worse because they were part of the original experience.
On the other hand, stuff like Ocarina of Time made the inventory screen a lot better by putting it in the bottom screen. Just curious as to what you guys think/if you have a stance on this or not?

Stuff like SotC is a tough call because some of the controls people hated were actually helpful in ways, not to mention realistic. If it had been like other games, Agro would've just ran into walls all the time during the battle with that sand-snakey colossus and you'd die. And simply navigating wasn't much of a problem once you realized that you can basically just let go of the left stick down a long corridor let him steer himself.
As for any complaints about on foot stuff in that game, a little polish would be nice but apart from streamlining the entire system (which I definitely wouldn't want) I can't see much they can do.
If it was something like GTA4 I'd be more inclined to have entirely rebuilt mechanics because there's NO reason it needs to control the way it does.

Kind of hard to say. If it's a remake, I do expect some graphical tweaks, and maybe some mechanical tweaks on parts of the original game that were less than perfect. I liked Wind Waker HD for my part, which did things pretty well. Metroid: Zero Mission was a pretty damned good remake of the original game. On the other hand, I don't want complete bastardizations like Turtles in Time: Re-Shelled.
My pet peeve on remakes is remastered music. In most cases it's inferior to the original, at least from the 16-bit era onward. Always leave the option for the original soundtrack in the game.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
It's harder and harder for me to go back and play some of my old favorites because they just don't look good on HD TV's anymore. So I'm in full support of HD remakes. PS One games look really great if you play then on handhelds so I have ways to play Final Fantasy VII, IX, Resident 1-3, MGS, and any others that I like to revisit. PS2, Gamecube, or X-Box games really only look good on older TV's in my opinion. So I don't need upgrades to controls or glitches, just a cleaner looking graphical improvement is enough for me.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Does anyone remember how long Resident Evil 2 takes to beat? I'm thinking about replaying it during the spooky month of October. I remember it feeling longer than all of the others. Also, is there lots of ammo or does that run scarce? It's easily been 10 years since I've tried playing through the game.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I could have sworn the game seemed so much longer back in the day. I never beat Code Veronica because I felt like the game would never end so I just stopped playing it. What is it about Resident Evil games that make them seem longer than they actually are?

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Almost all the RE games are really short 4 and 6 are really the only big ones from what i remember
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
So Ubisoft is locking the PS4/Xbone AC at 30 FPS/900p on PS4 and Xbone to not start arguments over which is better. In other words, the PS4 version is gimped. I feel like I never want to buy one of their games again. Not because this pisses me off, but I'd feel bad supporting people this stupid.

Ok, I really don't care that much about this stuff as long as the game has a solid framerate for both, but that is the dumbest reason I could ever think of for doing something like this.
I also like how Sony promised 1080p for the Ps3 and so many Ps4 games still don't achieve that.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Finally tried out an Xbox One and Ps4 at Best Buy today. Love what Microsoft did with the d-pad on the new controller, but the bumpers are uncomfortable to use and the triggers feel really weightless despite the vibration. The way they were hyping it I expected something more like force feedback, which would've been incredible especially for racing games. But I tried Forza 5 and it's nothing but plain vibration when you hit the brakes. Meh. Still a neat feature but not a big selling point

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I'd think it's chickenshit of them to do that, but I wasn't planning on buying AssCreed Unity anyway so I guess I don't care if they run it at 480i. And of course, folks are holding another Twitter hashtag protest. They gimped the PS4 version to avoid a shitstorm over lack of parity and now they're getting a shitstorm over parity.
