Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I liked 3, but I liked the entire game. My least favorite chapter is the last one. Even following that guy was fun. Plus it was the chapter I got young Snake face, which is always a bonus.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
The story bits were brilliant just the gameplay parts i repeat made me want to KILL EVERYTHING. Tailing that fucker was easily the worst part of the game easily.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I didn't mind following the dude at all. Just the bike part... fuck that bike part on the BBE run.

Bike part sucked because I tried to be stealthy and that just threw that shit right out the window.
Anyone try for the trophies after 4 patched them in?

No, I already earned all the emblems back in the day and I don't want to try it again. The BBE was crazy.

I am currently playing through 4 again and I have zero desire to go for the trophies. I mean, I'll take em when they pop... but some of those are insane.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I first started it after the trophy patch and one playthrough only got me the ones you get for playing it and the crop circle one. I doubt id have the patience for the rest.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Finally beat Rising last night. Had a lot of fun with it. Doesn't have my favorite boss battles but I think Kojima did the right thing letting Platinum handle this spinoff.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I stumbled upon part of an IGN walkthrough and found there's quite a bit of replay value. There is a way to go through without killing.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Interesting info graphic and my own research to add to the pandemonium of the previous argument
Hours of cutscenes in MGS series approximately of course. Did it by finding a guy who'd captured every cutscene (including required codec conversations) and averaging out the length.
MGS: 4.2 hours
MGS2: 5.4 hours
MGS3: 6.1 hours
MGS4: 9.3 Hours
So as oen would expect, it's been getting longer and longer...hopefully his next games curve it back again. That also says there's not necessarily a correlation between my favorite games in the series in the length of the cutscenes. That said...an hour for a cutscene is too fucking long, I don't care what you guys say.

Seeing's how I made it late to the party on this particular aspect of Metal Gear, is there anyone here who played Metal Gear Online (either for MGS 3 or 4) and how was the experience?

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I played 4's online. When it was good, I loved it, but my experience depended mostly on which map/mode I was playing. I had the most fun when I was just part of an endless shootout over one corridor. The drebin points system was kind of cool. Lagswitchers ran wild, though.
Those MGS4 numbers are actually surprisingly small. I expected something like 2 hours for the longest cutscene in that game. Hopefully the next game is closer to 2 and 3.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I picked up a copy of the MGS3 Premium Package, along with a couple of other bits and bobs, when I was in Japan last month
It's all very brown inside.
The art book (top right brown) is really interesting. Lots of info on stylistic influences and pictures of Stalin.
I think I can probably stop buying copies of Snake Eater now!

I hate myself for not getting the Collectors Edition of the MGS HD Collection. I want that artbook so fucking badly.

I managed to get the HD Collectors Edition for cheap. I think they overestimated demand for a heavy box of MGS. After about 2 months, it was half the price. It's a really nice art book, though there's not much else in the box
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
MGS5 trailer was preeeeeeeetty fucking amazing. Just gotta hope Kojima finally learnt how to combine narrative and gameplay, or just got himself an editor. Looking forward to getting Rising eventually, demo was crazy levels of fun.
Also mandatory comment about how MGS4 sucks. Every act after the 2nd was abysmal and the writing was paragraphs of nanomachines.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Hold it, I don't get what half the people here see in MGS4 personally, but Act 4 was fucking amazing. If the whole game was that good, it would be on par with 3.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I'm with Rainjar. I'm VERY excited for the idea of the game but if I get another game with HOUR long cutscenes and unskippable boring briefting scenes I'll be pissed.
I mean, Kojima WILL have long cutscenes, that's a given. But you know, that graphic I released up there, I realized that those cutscene times INCLUDED every codec conversation of which there were scant few in 4.
Did anyone else miss being able to do all the random codec calls in 4? I really liked the random info or the cheesy personalities in 3. I think 3 still had that pulpy, kind of B-movie mentality to parts of it story which really balanced it out.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I loved all the codec conversations in 1 and 3 (2 had a few that were great but ugh fuck Rose) It really irked me in 4 how Codec calls were handled, and not saving via codec made me want to punch someone that's something that has to be in every MGS game dammit! I squealed like a little girl when i noticed Rising brought the codec back like it was 1-3 saving and all. So yeah i was crushed how 4 handled that stuff to put it lightly.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Yeah parts of 4 just didn't feel like...MGS to me. I still had a great time when I played it don't get me wrong. As much as I harp on 4 I don't hate the game, it wouldn't be in my top games but I'm glad I played it.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Honestly that was my biggest gripe with 4. It's story and characters were like all Metal Gear, but certain aspects of it just didn't feel like it.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Yeah...it just (for me anyway) lost some of its camp which was a big part of the series. Yeah, serious story and great characters but campy too (I mean, common, a boss that fights with BEES?!). It was harder for me to take it seriously when the game took itself really seriously too (if that makes sense)

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
My only complaint with every new Metal Gear Solid game is how science fictiony the stories/characters are getting. My favorite is Metal Gear Solid because it is the most realistic game. I get that Psycho Mantis and Cyborg Ninjas aren't real, but it all felt like it wasn't too out there. Then MGS2 had to have Fortune with that bullet proof whatever the fuck that was, and crazy ass Vamp getting shot in the head. MGS3 wasn't as bizarre, but that's probably because it took place in the 60's. Yet there was still hover crafts, crazy ass villains that turned into bees, and The Sorrow. Then there's MGS4 with crazy ass Raiden, that fucker Vamp again, Snake getting old codger old, the beauties, Big Boss. And then there's probably the most annoying, and that's Peace Walker with walking mechs and crazy shit like that. Just make a game in line with Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid. Stop trying to blend your Zone of Enders with Metal Gear Solid you damn weirdo Kojima.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Unfortunate timing but I'm pretty sure that David Hayter isn't coming back. According a news report today (April 1st...yeah, I know) but also one last week as well.
Could be an elaborate ruse knowing Kojima but common...DAVID HAYTER...DAVID FUCKING HAYTER.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I'm fine with sci-fy in the series, just don't spend one second explaining it. Psycho Mantis should read minds just because. Vamp should survive a bullet to the head just because. The robots and everything fit very well in the series, I just want the weird shit accepted immediately.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Guess I'm the odd man out here but I loved MGS4. Still my favorite game this generation. Also that new trailer for MGS5 had me super excited. Easily my most anticipated game now.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
One part where I really had a problem with the series' craziness was in MGS2. I LIVE ON THROUGH THIS ARM!!!! That was just over the top dumb, and disappointing because Ocelot > Liquid. Also, the part at the end of MGS4 where Liquid Ocelot wasn't really Liquid but he was but he wasn't

I don't care what Neph says, a lot of the plot of MGS4 was fucking retconned.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
How could I forget about the fucking arm!? How people could like sci-fi in a series that never started off as sci-fi is beyond me.
MGS4 is my favorite game this gen too killa, so you're not alone.
