Metal Gear Series Discussion
Thought I'd make a Metal Gear thread since a lot of use are playing Rising, and we seem to have a lot of MG fans here anyways.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Anyone out there who wants to do a Peacewalker playthrough? I really want to play through it doing co-op.

I still need to finish that game. I made it to the halfway point. It's fucking long. Anyways, I might haven't tried co-op yet
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I'm interested in doing a co-op run. The only problem is that it'll probably take months to beat it with my schedule.

I'm in the same boat. A couple hours once a week is all I can probably do.

That works. Whats your Saturday nights look like? I get out of work at 4 so Saturday would probably be best for me.

My work schedule's all over the place so it'll vary, but I can do Saturday this week.

3 is the best. If there's one MGS game that needs to be played, it's that one.

I might be willing to do a playthrough. I have the MGS HD Collection on PS3, but I haven't done much other than play the first couple of hours of MGS2.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I think anyone who's played the whole MGS series pretty much agrees 3 is the best. I guess the only other option would be MGS.

Every now and then you get a weirdo who thinks 4 is the best. They're normal compared to the people who won't shut up about how much of a masterpiece 2 is.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I enjoyed 1. I got about halfway through 2 on a PS2 copy and my PS3 died so I lost my save. Not only does my new PS3 not have BC, but I don't really feel like playing half of 2 again. It seems to have lost all sense of balance that 1 had. In 1 they switched you fairly regularly between stealth sections, boss fights and talking parts. This game has groan-worthy long sections of talking/cutscenes where you don't get to do much at all as far as actual gameplay. I'd like to get to 3 (though whether it'd be better in that regard or not I have no clue), but I think I need to beat 2 first even if 3 is a prequel.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
4 was good but it didn't feel like much of a game. 3 actually balanced the gameplay with the cutscenes and besides that it was amazing anyways.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
How good a MGS game is depends on how much Ocelot is involved. And not that Liquid Revolver Ocelot crap, I'm talking the real deal.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Trip, you should honestly just skip 2 and play 3. Chonologically, MGS3 is the first part of the story anyway.
MGS2 is the worst in the series in my opinion, but its still better than most video games out there.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
There are a few links to 2's story in 3 but its not really needed to enjoy it. You should play 2 if you're going to play 4 or Revengeance though. it plays a much larger part in those.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
MGS2 had great gameplay but I'd agree that the story went fucking bonkers in the 2nd half. Still, lots of good moments.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I thought 2 was a step down in gameplay also. The bosses were less inventive and fun, the pacing was a step down, and some bits like the swimming sections and that sniping mission were awful. Plus, the area was so much more boring than Shadow Moses. Still a good game, but not up to par with 1, 3, and 4.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Gameplay was a mixed bag to me. Some area's it surpassed 1 substantially (it controlled a lot better, enemies had to call for back up, etc) others it took huge steps back in (boss fights, all the annoying parts. Finding the bombs, the swimming, and the part where you had to use the Nikita was even worse in 2 and i hated that in 1) and yes Big Shell was a lot more boring than Shadow Moses it only like had 3 colors orange, green and blue. bleh
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Yes, some elements weren't as good but the game still made for an enjoyable experience. If I tried it again (and I have the Vita version) I'd probably feel different.
I always remember this one goof during the battle with the drone plane (?) and you have to shoot it down with a rocket launcher while Snake and Otacon are in the helicopter overhead distracting it. At one point I tried to fire a rocket at the plane while it was making a pass and I accidentally hit the helicopter; at that point I hear Snake yell "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?" and Otacon saying the same thing over the Codec.

Where's Neph right now? =p
But yeah, 3 is by far the best in the series. "METAL GEAR SOLID TUEU IS A POSTMODERN MASTERPIECE BECAUSE THEY QUOTE PHILOSOPHY AND CONSPIRACY THEORIES IN THE CUTSCENES FOR A GOD DAMN HOUR!"
Shove it up your butt. Yeah, some clever things were done, but some clever things were done in a lot of shitty things. Well, to be fair I still like MGS2 quite a bit, but I recognize its heavily flawed nature.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Trip you should just go out and get the HD collection. MGS 2 looks great, and 3 looks even better. Also, you can probably find it for $20-$30, and that's a steal for three great games. Out of all of the HD collections, it is between this and Ratchet for my favorite.
For those who haven't played Peace Walker with a buddy, you're missing out. It makes tackling the missions so much more fun. Also, cuts down the time of boss fights by a lot as well. Holy shit does it take forever to beat the final boss.

Well sign me up as a wierdo. 4 is one of the best games ever made and MGS2 has the best story ending of any video game ever. Only Kojima would tackle something as complex as critical theory in a video game when most people are too stupid to understand the Uncharted story. MGS3 is such a solid and awesome game and it's more balanced. I don't know. It's a toss up between MGS3 and 4 for me. It's too much of an apples and oranges comparison.
We had this lengthy debate a while ago Twolf and I still think I'm 100% right. MGS4 isn't bad, it's stylized. If you can't appreciate it then that's your fault but it was intentional and I don't think Kojima should change a thing.
