You guys, there's a new Metal Gear coming out Tuesday. Even if its only an hour or two long with like 15 mintues of actual gameplay... fucking Metal Gear!!! Kinda crazy!

I'll be getting it. I don't work Tuesday so I'll probably beat a game in one day, first time I'll ever be able to say that!

I beat it and two of the side missions today. Loved every second of it, I'll definitely try to get 100% out of this game. Can't get enough of that gameplay, it just controls so smooth. And unlike 4, the guns feel satisfying as hell if you just want to charge in blasting everyone.

I like the alert phase where it goes slow mo and lets you try and pull off a headshot before guards come in. Nice little change.

That's exactly what I don't want in stealth games, though... Can I turn it off?
I want to want MGS5 but it's giving me the same vibe as the latest Deus Ex. Where getting spotted often turns the game into a no-consequences murder spree and restarting because you don't want to play it that way is annoying.

While it does make Murder Gear Solid easier than ever, it also offers more options for hiding than before. I'm finding myself resetting to the last checkpoint much less often than 3 and 4. Not sure if you can turn that off either, I'll check it out. I don't mind it for the first run, but I'd definitely want a way to turn it off for the future.

When I was searching for Paz, I accidentally restarted mission and not check point. Needless to say I was a little pissed when I discovered it went back to the very beginning. Guards seem to be more alert than ever as well.

So which games were re-released for PS3 that I would have to play to understand the story of MGSV?

I'd say Snake Eater and Peace Walker. Mainly just Peace Walker though.

Snake Eater and Peace Walker. Haven't you played both of 'em already Krubix?
GZ was legit as fuck, I'm so damn hyped for TPP. The open world aspect makes the entire thing feel so dynamic that being caught doesn't feel like a total failure because it can end up leading to its own dynamic situation.

- Rainjar's Adventure:
- I got caught a few times while trying to get to Paz which lead to loads of roof top running, jumping over fences and massive shoot outs where I'd disable the enemy instead of outright killing them so there was a ton of awesome chases there. When I finally got the section with Paz just before I got her out I was spotted which lead to another mini game of cat and mouse shoot out between the enclosed environment.
Then I got Paz out and shit went full dynamic. As I was leaving with her on my back the enemy radio went into alert phase due to finding one of the dead bodies I had left. I panicked and called the heli in for pickup right outside then went and swapped my tranq gun for an SMG I saw earlier. While waiting behind cover for the heli to come Miller warns me about how dangerous it is and I notice an APC right by the landing zone. I rush over to it with Paz on my back to see if I can steal it and get rid of as many enemies as possible but then I was spotted while standing right fucking next to it and it had some people in it.
So now the APC is trying to murder me and I've got people left and right shooting at me. I run along side the APC so it can't get a good shot at me while trying to pin down as many enemies as I can, then I very quickly make a break from the APC and dive behind some cover to rearrange the heli pick-up location. So after changing the heli pick-up location to the same place as where you drop off Chico I have to sprint quite a bit of a distance while having the entire fucking island after me. With the APC now trying to get me again I make another sprint across to some other section of cover, shoot some people while I get there, slide down one of the slopes onto another road, then there's music that's really kicked in going on in the background while I'm just sprinting as fast as fucking possible down this road in the pouring rain with bullets going everywhere, then I get to the heli after sliding down more cliff sections and get onboard and have an enemy patrol appear and start shooting at us so I'm just laying down as much cover fire as possible until we get away.
I HAD THE BIGGEST FUCKING GRIN OF "HOLY SHIT NOW THIS IS VIDEO GAMES THIS IS FUCKING PERFECT THANK YOU BASED KOJIMA" ON MY FACE THE ENTIRE TIME YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I found getting Paz to the place where I dropped off Chico to be near impossible. They had that whole section covered, and I found the easiest spot where I first started the game. My escape wasn't as frantic as yours, but I had to kill a bunch of people just to take the "easier" route. Tough game, can't wait to spend a little more time with it.
I also find the bonus missions to be pretty hard.

I thought everyone on here has played Snake Eater except for Trip.
Ground Zeroes has characters from Peace Walker and Mother Base which have an importance in Ground Zeroes, so that's why I'd suggest that game over Snake Eater.

And with this Kojima has succeeded in what he set out to do with the gameplay. Man I can't wait for TPP, it's going to be so fucking amazing.

You can turn off the slow-mo and the tagging enemies ability that allows you to see them through the walls. I think they're good add-ons because I could see a lot of people wanting to use them with how easy it can be to get caught in the open environments however I've had them disabled since the very start of playing the game. It does make things quite difficult, especially on hard.
What does everyone think of Snake's new VA? I gotta admit, I was kinda disappointed. I miss hearing Hayter as Snake more than I expected.

Sutherland doe a great job. However, he's no Hayter. Hayter has been Snake since '98 for me, and change is hard and rough. If they made Sutherland the voice of Big Boss since Snake Eater I'd be fine with it, but I know what Snake's supposed to sound like now and it isn't this.
If I never heard Hayter voice Snake then I think it would be awesome, but since I have....meh.

I have no issue with Sutherland. Having a new voice for Snake is no different than having half a dozen different guys play Batman to me.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Maybe once he's given some more lines and scenes he'll pull out an performance that we know Hayter couldn't. There's also the chance this is still part of one of Kojima's ruses and Hayter will appear at some point which I'm kinda hoping for now.
Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
The only reason I'm semi on board for Sutherland is that I like that Big Boss and Snake don't have identical voices. Makes way more sense.
That said, from what I have heard (disclaimer: which is very little) it doesn't sound like Sutherland tried to match up with Hayter's performance at all which is pretty disappointing. I suppose that's the catch when you hire an actor actor over a voice actor though.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I'd really like Sutherland if they started Big Boss off like this from the start, but instead we have 3 games with Hayter voicing him. Because I'm with Krubix, the two of them having the same voice is weird, they missed their chance to have Sutherland do it and it not be weird.

I'm sure I've asked this before, but why not again? Is Peace Walker going to suck if I play it by myself?

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I played it by myself twice and enjoyed both times. When I'd play with my co-op partner of choice he would just suck it up and I found it more fun by myself. I bet with the right partner though it would be more fun.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
Peace Walker is fine by yourself, better in my opinion. I did play quite a bit of it with Wiggy at first which was really really fun but the cutscene side of MGS becomes even more annoying than before when there's two of you.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I just finished Ground Zeroes the other day... that game is nothing but a cash grab. Sure, it was cool to play some of the new Metal Gear, but there is no reason that needed to be a standalone release. I mean, this is exactly what I expected it to be, so I shouldn't say I'm disappointed. But its hard for me to get excited for Phantom Pain considering its not coming out anytime soon. All it did was show us that Phantom Pain will be awesome. I didn't play any of the side ops though, so maybe I'll have a better opinion about it once I play those. Also, that last cutscene was gross.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
If it's just a cash grab then fucking hell Kojima make some more cash grabs please. I got over 6 hours of play in my first sitting of GZ - In that time I hadn't beaten any levels on hard yet nor done all the side stuff. I still keep going back to the game too in order to try new things and beat the harder difficulties. Plus the opening cutscene is so damn good, haven't got tired of watching it yet.
Unless something sleeper hits everyone in the face I could see Ground Zeroes easily being a closer runner up for GOTY to me.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
That's cool if you are really enjoying it. I'm just not one to replay stuff over and over again. I enjoyed what I played, I just don't think it was worth the $30... especially considering its either going to be free on PS Plus in a few months, bundled with Phantom Pain, or both. If Phantom Pain turns out to be amazing, then I'll be less sour on this. I was just very underwhelmed with it once I got over how pretty it looked.

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
I'd say play the side stuff before you really judge it there. It adds enough content to justify $30 IMO. I actually wish more games would do side stuff like GZ. It doesn't fit in with the story or would only pad it, so why not just give a main story that's better paced then offer a bunch of cool gameplay ideas you have when you're done?

Re: Metal Gear Series Discussion
The gameplay was fine. I get there's a lot of replay value... I was actually disappointed there wasn't more story... i mean shit... there wasn't even a god damn codec! What kind of Metal Gear is that? Greenman, I'm sure you know... I am not very good at these games... I usually fuck up and end up killing everyone just to see the next story mission. So I guess I'm in it more for the batshit crazy, Metal Gear story and characters and Ground Zeroes didn't really have that. I'm sure all the side stuff is fun... but I don't think it will change my opinion of Ground Zeroes as a standalone game. I'll definitely replay it a few times before Phantom Pain comes out though, so maybe the complete game will make it seem more worthwhile to me.
