Never heard of this net neutrality thing before. So, the internet might become more like TV? Isn't that the exact opposite of what everybody wants?

I've been worried about that too. The monetization attitude in modern business is disturbing because it isn't sustainable. It's all about shifting costs to the consumer while inflating profits for annual growth. When a company makes a decision based on the short term, they're being irresponsible and moronic. That being said, innovation is the product of necessity. So maybe it's a good thing these companies want to run a monopoly (or cartel, in all actuality) on something that is eventually going to be out of their control. That may be business 101, but fuck beans if it isn't fucking dumb.

And don't get me started on how it will affect my income. I'm pretty secure in the fact that what I do changes with the wind, but it does get very tedious having to wear so many hats because people with the most money seem to want more money and everyone else be damned.

This is a good topic and I look forward to everyone's thoughts.

@aj: Yes. The cable companies want to throttle your service because there is never enough money. It's already been done with cable and internet "service". The major US "providers" meet up together in H-town every year or so to discuss set pricing so they all can profit. Look up cartel and that's what they do. It's illegal as shit but they can get away with it by calling it a telecommunications conference. Because lawyers are fucking great that way.

I feel underqualified to weigh in but does anyone have a good summary of the FCC ruling and what it means? I'm a bit dumb in the specifics.

Think of it as anti-capitalism/consumer. Basically what the court has said is that the FCC doesn't have the right to tell companies they can't restrict what their customers have access to. Which is a clusterfuck of hypocrisy.

It all boils down to "providers" of your internet service being able to block access to coca cola if pepsi sponsers them. Or access to pornhub if redtube is a sponser (probably a better analogy for this, and any, forum).

Remember that "series of tubes" rant the old guy went on in the senate a few years ago? Yeah, so those "tubes" are apparently something your local provider controls even though they are subsidized and, in fact, paid for by public funds.

The ruling basically says the internet is a super bowl commercial and the rights belong to the cartel that controls your internet access.

So corrupted data keeps showing up on my Ps3. I get one more corrupted file every time it does it's automatic download/cloud save thing. It's not like I have downloads failing or files disappearing, these are just coming out of nowhere. I don't get it

Might try this:

Update the PS3 (yes, duh, but I have to say it). Turn off auto-sync. Go through your saved data and delete anything you don't want or need. Reboot PS3. Manually sync your saved data then turn auto-sync back on for anything you desire. My wild guess is you may have something in your saves that is no longer on or associated with your HDD. If your PS3 isn't freezing or locking up on the XMB then I doubt your HDD is corrupted. Try cleaning up a little bit and I bet you can find the cause.

I had something similar happen with Pacman. My solution was to just download the stupid game again- since it was such a small file- and then delete everything again working backwards.

The other apprentice were I worked was going on about feminism the other morning. When I said I disagreed with it (That was literally all I fucking said) she proceeded to yell at full voice that I was a cunt and a prick. When I started getting into why it's so dumb in a slightly louder tone I she said I needed to calm down. Felt like feminism in a nutshell. It promises to be a topic that'll be mentioned in the future too, fun times await.

Anyway, I guess the people who made Candy Crush Saga went nuts and are going after anyone who uses the words "candy" or "saga" in videogame titles. The whole thing is just silly. In one case they're trying to force the developers of The Banner Saga to change it's title, because apparently people might confuse two totally different games based on one word. Candy Crush isn't even anything like a "saga" in the first place. Copyright lawyers, man...

I saw that, and it's funny because they've been throwing out lawsuits left and right and when asked for comment they provide some impeccably crafted line of bullshit about "having to protect their rights under copyright law" or something equally ridiculous. Gonna try and find it now.
