No best friends? But...how? That's like those wishy washy schools where kids race and no one wins. Because you know, in life no one wins right? Everyone's equal and whatnot?
It's like that idea of let's pretend no death exists in kid's stories, because death makes kids sad. That is the fucking point of having it there, because it introduces that concept in a safe way and because fucking...BRAH! That was an angry noise. Who said that one quote...someone remind me, but "life is suffering, anyone that tells you otherwise is trying to sell you something." We don't have to teach kids that life is hard, life will do that on its own, but insulating them from the world helps no one.
I'm in agreement, imagination powers are key, and in a lot of the studies I read for my dissertation kids using imagination and getting time to explore that in an unstructured environment is pretty key to developing emotionally. So there.
And spiddy, yeah it's interesting, I think many of us have taken the modern approach to games which is...well, like many other things they are but one aspect of us. I talk about games with no more or less weight than I do kickboxing or movies in casual conversation. I alwasy remember Neph used to say that he always felt he had to hide the fact that he was so into games, and I can see why, the stigma is against us, but I think it does good just to be like "hey I'm super cool, and I like games to the point of schoolgirl fandom, deal with it"

I should have explained what I meant looking back. For the sake of single player games in the future, I wish kids would play them more. Now it seems every game is trying to tack on multiplayer that isn't needed because multiplayer is the only thing people seem to care about. It was also a shout out to gaming of my youth where pretty much every game was a single player game and it just sparked my imagination when I'd go out and play as a kid. Sorry for just throwing it out there with no reasoning.volvocrusher wrote:I don't see how making kids play more single player games really does anything. The rest I agree with, but that really felt like it came from out of nowhere.

Neph had to hide the fact that he was so into games because he played the stupidest games just to get trophies. I love trophies, but I'm sitting at a healthy 3000 and not an insane 8000. Nothing against him, but I'd hide that little piece of knowledge as well.

When you suggest Neph is representative of any group, your argument holds no weight.

Re: Chat Thread
I thought you were going to edit and say "T-Wolf is definitely not my idol" and I was going to cry and cry. Also, you think the people who said those quotes were thought "oooh, that's a good one. Gonna have to say that one again" and then would work it into conversation whenever they could.pspiddy wrote:Schoolgirl fandom is my new band name. Fucking rock on. T-wolf is my idol.
*edit* The quote is Oscar Wilde. If not, then Churchill. And if not that, I said it. Twice. For good measure.
Also, I am having a dick boyfriend moment. Figured I'd rant it out here. So my girlfriend (as i mentioned) got that awesome film job completely randomly. She met up with the producer/director/main actor last night which went really well. Looks like I probably wont be doing it after all. I'm trying to do some amateur stuff in the meantime but it's hard not to be slightly bitter when I had that carrot of working with a professional crew again in front of me.
Not to mention it was always kind of my...dream? Dream's a bit strong, but in that direction, but it was always my dream to work in Japan and get the chance to work with some proffessional film stuff while I was here so I feel like it was sniped. Which is COMPLETELY not my girlfriend's fault as she was found randomly I'm just feeling a bit like "I'm happy for you" *grumblegrumble* which makes me feel like a dickhole.

Was that a dream of your girlfriend's as well? To be involved in film making? Figured she was trying to be in the industry in some manner as well.
I think we've all had moments like that with friends or family or someone like that though (and then of course felt pretty terrible about it).

Become a cat lady, enough cats to kill the mice and a few to spare (to throw at the pesky kids on the sidewalk) =p

I have a crazy cat lady/guy across the road from me. They literally always have 10 cats roaming their yard. I'll try to snap a picture sometime.

Re: Chat Thread
I think it's more of a crazy cat guy. I've lived here for 6 months now and I've never seen him leave his house/yard. She has a job, because I see her leave everyday, but he never does. It may sound like I'm exaggerating, but I literally haven't seen him in a car away from his property. The furthest I seen him away is when he was retrieving his cat from a neighbor's house. He's weird, but at the same time I respect any cat enthusiast. One of his cats got hit and killed on the road, and my girlfriend let him know because it wasn't in the greatest of views and apparently he cried and said "Oh, it's Boots Kitty." This is what leads me to believe it is a crazy cat guy.

1 to 1 actually. Intentionally not bringing my 3DS so I can get work done. Got an essay, two reviews, and a take home midterm to work on.

Logged in to find 175 notifications on this forum, so I decided to delete them all as I would NEVER catch up! Hahah. Anyway, I finally caved and bought the parts for a new gaming PC. I'm stoked!

Re: Chat Thread
So I just recently built my new PC and was browsing for Microsoft Office products when I found "Office 365 Home Premium". Apparently Microsoft is trying to make even MORE money now by having people buy this cloud-based product, which is $99/year! Fcuk that, sh't! I'd rather own my products forever, than have to renew to use it every damn year!
I'm slowly (if I'm not already) beginning to detest Microsoft.

Re: Chat Thread
Apparently on Wednesday, one of the students was in the engineering building threatening to use some sort of dangerous chemical. I guess the cops cornered him in there and they found a bunch of stolen chemicals when they searched his house, too. Crazy stuff
And I had no idea this had happened until this morning. Maybe I should read my school e-mails more closely -_-
