When video games supplanted movies in gross profit, the margins affected the dollars and time involved in development. This means that, in order to transition from generation to generation while still including the net whole of all of the company's divisions, cross-gen development in an underpaid environment like video games makes sense.

And it is about time the cancelled Last Guardian.

Can you at least understand why people who are not exactly wealthy would want games on their $400 machines to take advantage of their new toys in ways where the people making them aren't even imagining trying to compromise this for older tech, just all the new possibilities?

Of course I do. And within the next year or so, you'll get what you want. But the reality is that we're still in a cross-gen "phase" and your new system isn't even a year old yet.

But most of the games announced at E3 will probably release more than a year from now. So when I initially said on Twitter, "I hope we see less cross-gen games this E3." What is wrong with that? I'm not asking them to cancel Far Cry 4's PS3 version. Or Dragon Age's or Battlefield: Hardline's. I'm saying we should have less going forward. I'm not even sure what you are disagreeing with at this point.

@spiddy: That is a good point about them needing to recoup costs, but again that really wasn't the point I was going for. I would also say that since last gen lasted longer than usual we should want to move forward in to the new technology faster. The 360 is seriously ancient in terms of hardware at this point. The PS3 less so, but still.

I'll go back to bitching about how Transistor and FTL better get Vita announcements. Or FTL on android. Or on 3DS. Blaaaaah! /run away flailing arms

Square Enix did some domain registering for two titles related to Tomb Raider:

Rise of the Tomb Raider: This will either be a terrible name for the TR reboot sequel or a tagline like "A Survivor is Born."

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris: A sequel to Guardian of Light presumably and the game they are showing at E3 I think. Me and Twolf can rejoice!

@choco: Square just keeps letting their properties creatively fester in these absurdly long development cycles. Change staff a couple of times...it's really a bad way to a build a game. Not saying that's WHY it's taking so long or why it's not showing up but surely it matters.

Also Rise of the Tomb Raider is an AWFUL title if it's real. And YEEEES, Guardian of Light was AWESOME!

I miss Nintendo press conferences but I'm still excited for the Direct this year. The new Zelda for Wii U will definitely be shown, right? I can't wait for that and X. I'll also keep hoping for a new Metroid and Star Fox but ha.. I doubt it.

Not much longer now. Ignoring my crushing disappointment over FFXV, I'm super excited for tomorrow! Hope I can sleep tonight. Also, since TLG wasn't really canceled I'm seriously hoping it will be shown now. Gotta dream big, right?
