Re: Now Playing
I watch way too much Sex in the City, Kim and Kortney Take Manhattan, Say Yes to the Dress, etc... It's time I force misery on her.

Re: Now Playing
Not sure if this is the right forum for this but...look, I know we all love RPG-like elements/upgrade systems and whatnot. But does anyone miss games where you just got what you got and the only thing that could improve was your skill? I do...

Re: Now Playing
Are you talking about games like Mario? If so, I'm playing Rayman right now and that kind of feels like skill is the only requirement.

Re: Now Playing
Yeah, Rayman was pretty great for that, but certainly not only that. Even stealth games like MGS or...well, everything these days seems to have an upgrade system. And I like games that you can just...play and get by on skill alone. I don't know, maybe it doesn't bug people as much. And there's certainly a place for it (like Deus Ex where you could upgrade skills to the way you play as the enemies got more dense etc).
Seems every shooter/action game these days has some sort of upgrade system shoehorned in. There are obviously exceptions where there were really good upgrade systems but still.

Downloading Dragon's Crown as I post this.
Recently, I've been tearing through Rayman Origins on the Vita during breaks at work. I still love it. The level designs are amazing, even though some made me swear like a sailor.

Re: Now Playing
I tried Machinarium today. Ehhh... not sure I cared for it. I am downloading Saint's Row The Third, so I shall see what the fuss is about.
Re: Now Playing
I wanted to like Machinarium but it didn't take long for me to get completely stuck at one of the puzzles. I should try it again though cuz... robots. I like robots.

I liked the artwork of Machinarium, but I really loathe puzzle games. It's not that I'm stupid (I might be though), I just don't find those games to be any fun. Feels more like work.

Re: Now Playing
I like some puzzle games but Machinarium feels a bit obtuse. Basically go into a room walk around and move the cursor around to see what can be interacted with. I do like the art and look though. That is why I gave it a try.
Re: Now Playing
You're right, it's basically trial and error. I played a few levels, and it seemed like each new level was just longer trial and error. No thanks. I'd rather shoot something with a gun or kick a ball or jump on something's head.

Re: Now Playing
Started up Saint's Row 3. Just a whole lot of fun. It doesn't really do anything new or original for this type of game from what I've played, but it does what it does well.
Re: Now Playing
Started up Psychonauts for the PC (had originally been playing the PS2 version). The PC version is infinitely better, I can't pinpoint why though. It just looks a lot better and feels like it plays better, and minor that those changes are, I feel like it makes a big difference.

I've been playing Dragon's Crown for the most part and I'm enjoying it so far. I also bought the Tomb Raider bundle from PSN last night so I'll get to that someday.

Re: Now Playing
The PS2 version is the worst of the 3. It was originally going to be an Xbox exclusive i think. I never really played it much except the xbox version though i own all versions. One of my favorite games still hoping it gets a sequel (it wont)Krubixcube wrote:Started up Psychonauts for the PC (had originally been playing the PS2 version). Beat Tales of Xillia today i can say definitely this is my favorite JRPG this gen loved pretty much everything about it. Really feels like a Tales game from this gen. Vesperia and Graces were good, but Xillia blows the away. Only real issue is its kind of short for a Tales game beat in 60 hours and thats with about 70% of the side quests. Did the post game dungeon too. The Ultimate boss was a pretty cool fight though i was pretty much stuck casting Revive on everyone during the last phase XD
Re: Now Playing
I bought Ni no Kuni, yesterday, but cracked open Vanquish to play for the first time, today. Initially I was going to finish my Mass Effect 2 save file, but then realized that I still need to continue on with Deus Ex and Dark Souls. Then I realized I have one-too-many games that I haven't even unwrapped yet: Dante's Inferno, Bioshock 2, FFXIII, Singularity, Castlevania, and Infamous 2.
BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEH! My gaming chore list is out of control! And I still want to run out and buy The Last of Us. Oh well... all in due time, I believe.

Re: Now Playing
I love Ni no Kuni, and I actually enjoyed Vanquish's campaign more than any of the singleplayer content of the Gears of War games. It'd have been cool if Vanquish had had multiplayer, but I'll bet that given how niche the game was, the MP community would have been a ghost town in a month , so I guess no MP wasn't really a loss for Vanquish.

Re: Now Playing
The fact that you love Ni no Kuni has made me decide to play it right now... Thanks! And I was thinking about what a shame it was that Vanquish didn't have a MP aspect either, but you make a valid point about why it's good it probably didn't.
Re: Now Playing
My wife also preordered me the PS3 version of FFXIV: A Realm Reborn. I'm really looking forward to that one. I want a Magitek Armor mount. My wife likes online gaming a lot, and she's thinking of getting the PC version for herself and playing with me.

Re: Now Playing
I'll probably get FFXIV eventually not sure if i can handle the monthly fee right away though, and I'd want someone to play with me.
Re: Now Playing
lenny, Ni No Kuni is the best game I've played this year. If you like classic feeling RPGs, you'll feel right at home.

Re: Now Playing
Bret - I find myself getting slowly addicted to it already. It almost feels like I'm playing Pokemon. Hahaha
Re: Now Playing
I've never played a game as much as I played that one. I'd sit there for 5 hours at a time. Beat the game in 3 weeks, something I rarely ever do.

Probably should get back to Ni No Kuni. Wasn't digging what I played, but heard it gets better soon.

Second this. Ni no Kuni was an awesome experience. Loved every bit of it. I hope that Level-5 and Studio Ghibli team up again on PS4, maybe for a completely different title.BretBaber wrote:lenny, Ni No Kuni is the best game I've played this year. Re: Now Playing
My GOTY is almost certainly going to The Last of Us. Haven't played that well paced of a game since Resident Evil 4, did everything it needed to right. Only two games that have a chance of beating it are South Park: The Stick of Truth and Pokemon X/Y.

Re: Now Playing
I enjoyed The Last of Us a lot, but with that game I could play for a half an hour or an hour and be content with putting it down for the day. With Ni No Kuni I'd say "I'll just get to the next town." Then I'd get to the next town, go to the bounty board, talk to some people, and would be playing for another 2 or 3 hours. I couldn't stop myself.
