Picked up Rock Band 3 since Amazon had the keyboard bundle discounted. Best song list in a music game ever. Keyboards are awesome too. Have a hard time wrapping my head around them still, but they're a ton of fun.

Re: Now Playing
Me and some friends have been back to RB3 lately. Such a great game.
I started up Deus Ex, but haven't gotten very far. Also started up a replay of Jak and Daxter since I usually squeeze one in each year.

Re: Now Playing
You play all three once a year, or just one of the three once a year?

Re: Now Playing
Usually I play The Precursor Legacy and 3 once a year though not necessarily back to back. Jak II less often. While I enjoy it more than most people, I really have to be in the mood for it. Where as 1 and 3 I'm always in the mood for! I'd really like to replay the spinoffs again soon. It has been a while.
Re: Now Playing
I think I'm gonna wait a bit for the Last of Us. It'll be like my back to school escape game. During the summer I can actually focus on replaying everything I have—and playing everything I haven't finished yet. I've never really had a backlog before!
Right now I'm alternating between Skyrim and replaying Uncharted 2.

Re: Now Playing
Also Muramasa. It's combat is pretty damn cool feels like a 2D Devil May Cry. Only issue is i need to get better at changing blades i parry EVERYTHING and they break so fast.
Re: Now Playing
Chaos, and I'm finding the main paths pretty easy. Most enemies dont touch me, but when you get to the side caves then that shit gets fucking hard.
Re: Now Playing
I'm playing through FFIX at the moment, I've named my main characters:
Ziggalo (For Zidane)
PotPot (for Vivi)
Klaus (for steiner, off of the german safety video...which if you haven't seen GO WATCH IT)
Muffins (for Garnet)
Felcher (Quina)
Sian (girlfriend called the name for Freya, so she's the one non-joke name)
HBadger (for Amarant, because Honey Badger don't give a shit)
and my favorite so far:
LilCunt (for Eiko). Which works incredibly well when she's like "I'm LilCunt". Why yes, yes you are. Wish I could have fit in the extra character and made it "ALilCunt" but oh well.

Re: Now Playing
Hey greenman, does it say anywhere in RB3 that you can use an adapter to use an actual electronic drumset? I've been searching the internet for ages for that. I found one thing early on that said you could, but I haven't found anything confirming it since then

pspiddy wrote:Muramasa is what I wanted to be so far. Sort of Earthworm Jim meets Viewtiful Joe. I dunno, Matt or Kay could probably explain it better. I see it as a $30 game. Or steal it on a modified Wii if you're a dick.
The Viewtiful Joe comparison works. It does feel a lot like a Kamiya game. Atmosphere is really similar to Okami's. (I need to get back to Okami HD sometime.) Also the digital version is only $35

Still playing through The Witcher 2 and very much enjoying it. It's no Game of Thrones but I'm impressed at how the choices in the game so far actually seem to pan out. I wish Mass Effect did more of this kind of stuff to be honest.

Re: Now Playing
Started up Bioshock Infinite on my computer today. Two things: 1. The graphics are on low and it still looks/plays fantastic. 2. The whole intro is quite amazing

Re: Now Playing
I can think of a few things that aren't. For instance: Why does the game send you back to the menu instead of the last checkpoint when you're out of money?

Re: Now Playing
That only happened to me once in the beginning. After i got the shield it never was a problem for me. So it didn't really bug me much, but that really doesn't excuse it though i guess.

Apart from the gameplay is torn between two different era's, the game is mindlessly padded out beyond belief, and that it's a pretentious dudebro shooter in the sky?
B:I is barely above average at best. The opening when you enter DisneyLand: Sky Edition was the best part.
Re: Now Playing
Now I'm curious, ranger. Which FPSs would you not consider to be "dudebro" shooters?

Re: Now Playing
Pretentious? I wouldn't exactly call Infinite pretentious considering
- Spoiler:
- All of the commentary on religion, racism, etc. wasn't used to give social commentary, but to characterize Comstock and show the kind of impact the baptism had on him. It could have been replaced with all of Andrew Ryan's ideas or something else entirely, it would have had the same effect. Just can't see something as pretentious when it's not trying to say anything.

Re: Now Playing
I said it in the Bioshock thread and I say it now, I think you're way oversimplifying things Rain. I don't think your argument holds water. That said, I don't think Bioshock Infinite is flawless by any means, there's a lot wrong with it, but to say it's pretentious...well, it is, but does that really hurt it?
It is a straight forward shooter but it has three dimensional, well-written characters, a wonderfully fleshed out world, amazing sound design and score, and a cool story. Yes, I would have liked to see Bioshock Infinite have more Deus Ex or Mass Effect style conversations and freedom but does its choice to be an FPS make it a shitty/pretentious game? No. that's like saying The Matrix is a piece of shit movie because it's an action movie. And if you think the Matrix is a shitty movie...well, screw you anyway =p
This coming from the dude who said he likes Johnny Got His Gun (the movie) and you're complaining about something being PRETENTIOUS?! Hypocrite.
Also thumbs up to Greenman's comment.

Half Life.
Stalker.
S.W.A.T 4
Mirror's Edge if that counts
Deus Ex
System Shock 2
Far Cry 1-2, 3 I haven't played yet.
Metro also looks like it's not a dudebro shooter.
Probably a few others.

Hadn't thought of it like that.

It feels like it undermines the rest of it completely though. It falls into the biggest trap most games do, it completely neglects its story section and everything it's set up because it thinks "Oh yeah, this is a video game, time to shoot things!". Tons of it feels so mindlessly padded with shooty shooty sections (Some of the plot points also feel like they're done in a padded way) especially towards the end of the game. There's so many things that aren't even consistent or make sense in Infinties universe that seem like they're there just because it's a video game. It's like if Last of Us gameplay just involved you mowing hundreds upon hundreds of enemies down Uncharted style, it just clashes completely.

Re: Now Playing
It doesn't clash at all.
Also I don't get the connection between having a lot of shooting and it being dudebro at all.
- Spoiler:
- Comstock knows who Booker is. Comstock's basically the leader of an entire country. Why the hell wouldnt he have an army of men behind him? If Booker takes Elizabeth away it ruins his plans. It makes sense to send his army after him.
Beyond that there's the fucking war between the Vox and Comstock. A literal war, and there's "too much" shooting?
Also I don't get the connection between having a lot of shooting and it being dudebro at all.
