I just read a post on facebook uoting a story about how a 16 year girl got stabbed to death for rejecting a guy who asked her to prom. The person uoting it said basically "THIS WILL TEACH WOMEN TO REJECT NICE GUYS THEY ONLY WANT MEN WHO TREAT THEM LIKE SHIT THIS WILL TEACH THEM"

I want to vomit holy hell. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?

I did facebook for almost a year before I couldn't take it anymore. And that was just from adding friends, family, and old vlassmates or coworkers.

You should "probably" delete that person if it's obviously not a bad joke. I mean, that's pretty awful. Much worse than the crazy religious stuff and "look at my shitty baby doing mundane and shitty shit" posts that made me quit.

I consider myself really fortunate because my mother was not only supportive of my video games habits, she was actively involved. Bless her for putting forth the effort to play games like Street Fighter II with me.

A lot of these despondent people we're talking about could have used something like that in their life. Tragic, really. I refuse to let these stories affect my empathy to the point where it doesn't surprise me. (not taking away from your very valid point, Kay) In a world of 7+ billion and growing, we need common human decency in spite of the fucked off shit that is the minority. Or something.

Call me an idealist since I haven't given up on humanity. This forum is a prime example of how diversity works and idiocy is a non-standard. It's true that some of us get along more than others, but we have a collective interest that has, in my opinion, benefited an otherwise A-Team of miscreants. The voices here are, what I'd like to think, a representation of the non-Wally World people; unique and sensible.

Hell, I even like Neph. And he's someone I think is beyond misguided. Faith in humanity right there.

We didn't exactly have that many Wallies before, but we'd run into them every now and then back there.

In all honesty, I wish Trip, Greenie, and Matt would have taken over 1up. What Parrish and the rest did was so messed up. Sad, really.

Most of what happened to 1UP was beyond the help of its staff, honestly. Ziff-Davis (in the 1UP/EGM days) mismanaged it, and Z-D did the big staff bloodbath of 2009 when they were deep in the red. Then UGO mismanaged it, and IGN mismanaged it. Then when it went back to Ziff-Davis, it was pretty much toast and Z-D didn't have any use for it since they already had IGN.

Jeremy tried, in fact, secured funding from a venture capitalist to buy the site from IGN before the reacquisition by Z-D that finished off 1UP, in hopes of running 1UP independently from IGN or Z-D. Z-D didn't want to run 1UP, but neither did they want to sell the 1UP property. When that fell through, he realized it was a lost cause and gave up.

I honestly can't find any gaming news sites I visit much anymore. They're all a jumbled mess of mostly rumors that may or may not be true, general pop-culture shit I couldn't give less of a damn about, and more and more pay-to-win match-three clones on mobile platforms. And of course, plenty of NintendOOOOOOOM. The only sites I visit much these days are places like RPGamer.

Going back to the dark and grim news, some kid here the land of Harry Potter and truffles stabbed his teacher in the back during class. They don't know know why yet but some places already started blaming it on video games.

Spot on the money, it was Dark Souls. I think the only evidence they'd have that it was video games is the fact he went for a backstab. People are fucked up.
