Re: Now Playing
I've started The Last of Us...hell of an opening. Really good so far. Have to go to work now but I'll pick it up when I come back. That said, there are a FEW immersion breaking things in it like when your support characters will spastically run in front of a patrolling dude but be unseen since you're still in stealth mode. Also, I don't quite have a handle on the stealth game yet. My favorite types of stealth games are generally the Deus Ex/Thief/MGS...you can wait and study your way through a route but The Last of Us is that second type where it's more about just seizing that moment and then picking people off one by one a la Arkham City, which I do enjoy I'm just not as good at it. Especially when the environments can be very dark and the indication that an enemy can see/hear you is a bit finnicky. But yeah, nitpicks in an otherwise very cool experience so far.

Re: Now Playing
My favorite combat moments in The Last of Us weren't when I was perfectly stealthing through areas, but when shit went wrong and all of the sudden I had to improvise. I still don't want to use much ammo, so I'm like skirting around the environment trying to stay a bit ahead of pursuers using weapons sparingly, finding bricks to use either to draw them into stealth kills or just breaking them over their face. Like obviously the game isn't meant for the straight up action approach... I always start stealthily and kept that way when I could, but my mistakes often rewarded me with these wild, obviously unscripted battles that were a blast.
Re: Now Playing
I feel the same way Trip. TLoU is one of the few games where I don't restart if I mess up on stealth

Re: Now Playing
I'm one of the people who did restart almost everytime i got caught lol thats probably why i found it so damn hard. Been using a more action oriented approach on ng+ though.
Re: Now Playing
I'm staying out of the thread because of spoilers. I'm really only talking mechanics. I've been doing the same thing though, kind of trying my best to take out a few key enemies then improving when shit hits the fan.

Re: Now Playing
I found the game to be a lot more fun when I stopped restarting each time I got caught. Mostly because I suck and get caught constantly. I'm so awful at the Last of Us it's embarrassing

Re: Now Playing
Yeah, I think I had to get out of the mindset of a stealth game for sure. I'm a restarting type like in MGS and stuff but when shit did hit the fan and I hit my first dude with a brick in panic and then beat him to death I thought "oooh, so that's how it goes".

As long as you don't venture into any key moments like people here aren't I don't see any issue.

Re: Now Playing
Yeah chill out spiddy. No one is going to spoil anything in here. Not sure what you are getting worked up about. I'm sure people have talked about basic Ni No Kuni and Bioshock stuff at some point in this thread. It's not a big deal.
Having said that all spoilers are tagged in The Last of Us thread, so you don't have to fear that either Twolf. Just don't click the spoiler things obviously.

Re: Now Playing
TWolf, I had the same problem with NPC running in front of enemies and not noticing them. It bothered me so much, it almost ruined the game for me for a while. Wish they just would have stayed back.

Re: Now Playing
Well the thing to remember is Naughty Dog was in a lose lose scenario with that part. Programming AI is a tricky thing and considering how long TLOU was in development they had to have tried to keep that from happening. They had a choice of enemies not noticing, noticing and thus making the game 100 times more frustrating, or creating places to hide like Resident Evil 4 with no explanation of how they make it through if you just sneak by. Given these options I think they made the right choice.
It helps that I just beat Bioshock Infinite where I swear Elizabeth was firing blue and orange portals I couldn't see so was used to a little NPC wonkiness.

Re: Now Playing
It just really annoyed me that the enemies would be walking around looking for me, and this unknown characters runs right by them without them even blinking an eye. The problem happened a lot less towards the second half of the game.

Re: Now Playing
yeah, spiddy, I'd never talk about any moments in the game in this thread. and if I did I'd spoiler tag it. I'm PURELY talking mechanics. But I will be careful, promise.

Yeah, but just saying would you rather they notice Ellie and start shooting at you?

Re: Now Playing
I caved and started Nocturne again. All the bastards on my timeline tweeting about SMTIV, I FUCKING HAD TO. Playing on HARD It hasn't been too bad so far just gotta pay more attention. NOT looking forward to the Matador though that fucker was the hardest part of the game on Normal, and he shows up so goddamn early. I just got out of the hospital so its a little while yet.
Re: Now Playing
I don't even want to be reminded of the Matador. That boss fight is just so randomly hard.. Good luck with that one.
One thing I love about SMTIV is being able to save anywhere. That way the game is challenging but never frustrating. So I know that's something I'll miss a lot when I go back and play Nocturne.

I'd prefer they grab her and start hauling her away.

I hated that fucker so much. The game is completely reasonable after that fight but ugh matador was an asshole.
This was my build the first cycle. Gonna probably be similiar this time around too
Re: Now Playing
Keep thinking back on Trials and Tribulations. The more I think about it the more I realize just how brilliant the last case of that game is. Makes me kind of glad 1up's gone because I'd have to edit my favorite games list for that. And Last of Us. And Kirby's Return to Dreamland. And probably Sly Cooper 2 or 4. In retrospect it wasn't a good idea for me personally to make one. Changes much more than San Andreas'.

Mine changes quite a bit as well, especially as I replay some of my old favorites as an adult.

I started playing that Black Mesa mod. It's fantastic. Can't recommend it enough for people who've already played HL1. And if you haven't played it yet, it's a less dated version of the game without Xen... everybody wins

So did they actually complete everything up to Xen. Last I heard they weren't finished but that was a while back I guess.

WHY DID I START ME2 AGAIN WHEN I HAVE A BILLION OTHER THINGS TO PLAY! I BLAME GREENMAN!
Re: Now Playing
Everything up to Xen is there according to the mod's webpage. Xen will come in a later release and will supposedly be expanded quite a bit. And yes, Twolf, it's free. You don't even need to own any games to play it
