Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Alright, thanks. I will google around a bit more and see if there is a solution. I'm less concerned about whether the content is worthwhile than just being able to load my save.
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Yeah, I gotcha. Would suck if you got this far and then had a corrupted save.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I guess it is a bug of sorts where that content downloads and messes with the save. Only real solve seems to be buying the DLC. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling anyway, but no dice. It was only a dollar, so I just bought it. Seemed worth that to save my progress even if I felt really stupid having to do it. It did work though. Oh well. That was a hassle.
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Glad the fix was only $1, but sucks you had to buy something to do it.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I will put up the year-end awards thread up this weekend. I know we don't post much here anymore, but I think that is pretty fun still. I like seeing people's lists and stuff. Hopefully, some more people will pop in for it.
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I was just coming on here to see where I should post my top-10. Just ironed it out this morning. Looking forward to seeing everyone's lists!

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
My schedule is random every week, but I was pretty pleased to see that I got Tuesday off when Horizon comes out. I'm probably Killzone's biggest fan in the forum, so I'm pretty excited to try out their new game and have all day to do it. Hopefully they do more Killzone, and make it like a mixture of 2 and 3 for multiplayer.

I think these days most of us are connected on facebook or some form of other media which is probably why we post less but I still like popping back here time to time to see what people are up to gaming-wise

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
After years of wanting to add a podcast to my website, I finally finished my first episode successfully last night. When the final thing converted over to an MP3, it felt really satisfying. There were some things I wasn't totally happy with, but overall I think it came out very well. I will post a link to it when I put it up tomorrow. If any of you guys want to be a guest on it some time, let me know. I am just going to be doing it by myself with different guests each time. I know I screwed up a couple of times when I tried with some of you a few years back, but I know what I am doing this time, so it should go better!
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Looking forward to checking it out! Will you be posting it on iTunes or just your website?

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I am hoping to figure out the iTunes thing and a more permanent hosting solution soon. I just used Soundcloud for now as it was a free way to get started. I wanted to make sure, I'd continue with it before doing anything else. There is a direct download option for those that prefer that though I realize that isn't as simple as downloading via iTunes as far as getting it on your phone. Anyway, here it is.

Listened to it yesterday. I skipped through some of The Witcher stuff, because I still haven't finished it and didn't want to spoil it... although I doubt I ever will. But I enjoyed your anticipated games chat. If you ever want a guest, let me know. I'd be happy to join!

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Hey thanks a lot for listening. I would love to have you on! I will try and think of a game/topic to pitch you for an episode in future.
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Yeah, enjoyed the podcast too Trip. Kind of made me realize how little I remember about TW3 though, but I do agree on Novigrad at least. I'd be happy to guest on there also, especially if you ever do one on Mass Effect if you get through the trilogy.
Also got my Switch and was playing Zelda with some of my buddies yesterday. I'm in love with both the console and the game right now. So good.

I skipped the first half because I still haven't played The Witcher 3 but I dug the rest. I'll probably give that micro machines game a look if it's not isometric

I appreciate you both listening. I will get back to you about an episode too Casey.
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
So I got a Ps4 this weekend. Bad timing but Sony decided to take $50 off for a while so I jumped. Uncharted 4 is great, I like the controller, the system is nice and small and fits on my desk (I think I have the slim.) I do find the OS to be needlessly intrusive while in-game though. I miss the far subtler notifications from the Ps3

So don't think I posted it, but I'm going to E3 this year. Really excited for it too, gonna meet with another guy from Pixlbit there and we're recording Nerds Without Pants after.

Gamefly gave me a month for a buck so I resubscribed and am getting Nier and Mass Effect from them. Pretty addicted to Persona though so not sure if I'll get to them this month, but hopefully will. Mass Effect has me really worried though.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Do you get to go to any of the press conferences at E3? Either way, pretty dope. I imagine there will be some awesome games to demo there. Meet some developers too.
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
No press conferences no, just public. But I'm excited either way. Should be fun.

Game conventions are a lot of fun just for the atmosphere of being around a bunch of enthusiasts. Is this the first year E3 is open to the public?

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
As more games have sort of RPG elements where your character gets stronger, better, etc. as the game goes on, I notice often I become overleveled so to speak. Where as I prefer games to ramp up in difficulty, I often find they just get easier as the game goes on. Since you guys are more experienced with RPGs and the like, I was wondering which games handle this better? Where they keep a proper difficulty curve despite you leveling up.
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Best example for action RPGs (since turn based isn't your thing) would be the Souls series and Bloodborne. All games are challenging from start to finish, your leveling matters, but you still need to always be on your toes and will go up against really tough new enemies which need new tactics all the time.
Mass Effect 2 on Veteran/Hardcore does a good job of scaling enemies. You only level up and upgrade your gear after missions so you could do the same boss at level 20 and level 27 and be just as challenged. 1 definitely falls victim to that issue and 3 is too easy on every difficulty except Insanity which goes so far it sucks the fun out of the combat.
Fallout New Vegas is interesting because its hardcore mode introduces a bunch of survival elements so you still have a bunch of variables to keep things challenging even after you get the best perks and items.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution stayed pretty challenging the whole way through too when I was playing stealth. Not sure about a combat approach. Those are the best examples off the top of my head, but it's usually a common issue for me too in games with RPG elements.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I second Bloodborne, even weaker enemies can mess you up if you're not paying attention.
Part of it is pacing. Chrono Trigger never gets too easy because it was designed to be played through with minimal grinding and the sidequests don't open up until the end of the game. When a game gives you a billion sidequests right off the bat it's easy to get over leveled.
I do miss action games without RPG elements though. Sometimes I want to get better because I got better, not because a number tells me. That said, Bloodborne and Dark Souls walk that line really well.
