Next Gen Consoles

I have no reason to get an Xbonr at launch when I just spent $400 on another system that plays mostly the same games. Besides, it's pretty obvious MS is going to release a Kinectless version in the future. I'll get one of those a few years down the line, especially if they keep their exclusives and can get a consistent stream of new ones.

So does the camera do anything yet, in games?

You have the Playroom which is a bunch of mini games using it and can use it for Twitch.

I think it's definitely noticeable though obviously not on the level of previous generational jumps. Some of the lighting in Killzone seems really impressive in particular. Hopefully some others will chime in with thoughts.

Yeah, Killzone has nothing on par with the jump from MGS1 to 2 or FFXII to XIII, but there's a lot of things like the lens flare (I'm talking JJ Abrams levels), shadows (once tried to snipe my shadow thinking it was an enemy) and a few other little touches that are legitimately noticeable.

As far as multiplatform goes, Skylanders has a definite improvement over Giants. Doesn't have any fancy tricks like Killzone, but the colors are more vibrant and the game has a cleaner look that isn't really there from a sequel on the same console as before.

Oddly enough the first time I actually got that "next-gen" vibe was when I watched Killa play a bit of Resogun. I don't think the Ps3 could handle rendering all those effects at once. I could easily be wrong, though. Super Stardust had tons of stuff going on at times, too, and the actual quality of the effects in Resogun is hard to judge based on a streamed video

Also, Resogun looks great and I'm definitely seeing the point of streaming now. Something about seeing somebody you know play a game in real time is just more appealing than watching youtube videos

I'm so in love with Twitch broadcasting. Love that it lets people post comments so you can have interaction. This could change how I buy games completely. If I'm on the fence and one of you guys broadcast, I can just check out Twitch for some gameplay and ask questions while it's happening. I'll be broadcasting a lot with it.

Same here. I've broadcast a few times now and its great. So easy to just hit the share button and get it going. I will have to work on getting the mic audio louder or turning down the gameplay audio. Will be pretty nice once they get the ability to archive streams going so people can tune in later if they miss when I stream live.

Yeah, archiving was the only thing I felt was really missing. Hope there's an easy way to do it or they're coming out with an easy way to.

Does one have to twitter in order to twitch? Like, is it setup from the console and one can post and view from the PS4? Or link to a FAQ, please.

You don't need a Twitter, it's just useful because whenever you start a stream it'll post on Twitch for any of your followers not using it. Not sure if you can view Twitch from PS4 though.

You can watch streams through the PS4 as well.

That's pretty neat. I saw a bit of Greenman playing Skylanders earlier and it proved that I apparently had no idea what Skylanders was like at all... haha. I will have to make an account up and follow you guys. I might try it myself even.

I'll have to investigate all of this. Sounds neat. When I booted upthe ps4 Iit said something about share and facebook so I stayed the hell away.

I do like the feed thing under the whats new tab. Seeing what everyone's into is fun. Although I'm not sure I have that set up correctly either. Oh well, I'll funk with it tomorrow.

No it looks good. I guess I just never really watched any footage of them so wasn't sure what to expect. You were in an arena fighting a boss it looked like. Jumping radial attacks. I only took a quick peek to be honest.

Ah, that's just a part of it is the thing. Most of it's regular levels with a few branching paths if you have a Skylander of the right element. But the arena is pretty addicting and great to show for Twitch. Also if there's a way for both of us to talk at the same time, we so need to Twitch every game night that involves me and Spiddy together.

When Ps3 games goes online, I hope you can stream those. I have to share the pain I experience while playing collection in Warhawk

If anyone wants to get into strategy discussion for Resogun let me know. I just died at the final boss on experienced (starting from level 1). Using Nemesis. Have been able to get all the humans on the first three levels so far.

We just need to figure this out when they put Toejam and Earl on PS4.

@Greenie: I think it would be great just to do a Let's Play with you on anything. Definitely not for the faint of heart!

@Trip: Resogun is kicking my ass. I can get to the second boss on experienced without losing a life and saving 80% of the humans and then I get pummeled by its final form. Ugh. I've also yet to save all humans on any level.

Ive managed to save all humans on the first two levels. Should have gotten the third level but they screwed me on the placement of the keepers and I lost the very last human. I played on vetern for the first time tonight and man is it going to be hard to beat.

What ship are you guys using in Resogun? I was using Nemesis, but finally tried out Phobos today and it really feels different. Going from the super fast ship to Phobos is an adjustment but it also kills things so fast and man the Overdrive is so much longer! I still think my best shot at that 1CC trophy is with Nemesis (or maybe Ferox which I have to try still), but it was fun to try an different ship.

I think Sony got some big bucks this launch.  It seems like most retails got a lot of systems to sell, as opposed to the PS3 launch.

Our store had over 100 preorders and sadly we actually had enough shipped to us. Someone fucked up and sold a few that they shouldn't have on Friday morning. I guess we were really pressured to make sure all PS4s were sold by the end of Saturday but that's hardly an excuse... it's not like we were trying to sell Ouyas.

Anyway, I've been able to play with my PS4 a bit and I love it! Resogun is super addicting and fun. I like Contrast so far but I hope the gameplay gets more interesting. If it doesn't, the story, art and music might keep me playing anyway. Killzone also looks way more impressive than I expected, so beautiful. Too bad I suck horribly at it. I spend most of the time getting shot to death it seems lol

I'm using the standard ship in Resogun. Basically the Koopa Troopa in Mario Kart equivalent. Every time I use the agile ship I end up twitching into shit unintentionally. Not that it controls badly, in fact, it controls too well.

@Choco: If I get KZ you should totally play with me. I spend more time fucking around and getting killed in games like that than actually going for K/D ratios. Also, from what I've played, Contrast is about style and not gameplay. Which is OK since it's free and full of style.

You don't have to worry about K/D ratio in Killzone, because it shouldn't be the point to your playing. If you play classic warzone, dying is apart of helping your team get the win. There's no way you can be in on the action and not die. In Call of Duty K/D ratio is all I cared about, but Killzone forcing you to not care. If you want to win, use your perks/classes strengths to help your team win. I could die 20 times in a row and not get a kill, but if my spawn point gets the victory that is all that matters to me.

Bret, you and me need to do a game night so I can show you just how fucktacular I am in anything MP. It's in my nature to screw things up.

I started with Nemsis then I moved to using Ferox. They are pretty different and you have to kind of alter the way you play to make it work. I need to beat the game with Phobos. I finally got the trophy for saving all humans. That last level is a bitch because they give you like no time to kill the last keepers. I got the very last human like 8 times and kept losing him. Finally did it though.
