What was the first game you bought for each of your consoles?
I thought we might have done this one in the past, but I hunted around the boards and couldn't find it. So...
With the Wii U out and the PS4 and Xbone coming, that makes me think: what was the first game you bought when you first got the various systems you have? If you bought a system with a bundled game, you can mention the first non-bundled game you got, otherwise I suspect there'd just be lots of Tetrises and Wii Sports here. If you bought a system specifically because of what was bundled with it, that's good too.
For me:
Game Boy: Tetris (bundled) and Super Mario Land. I was personally more impressed with Super Mario Land in the beginning - imagine, playing Mario away from the TV!
Super NES - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (bundled) and Mortal Kombat. I actually asked for the Zelda bundle, which I saw in a Service Merchandise catalog, for Christmas and got it. MK was my big obsession at the time.
Nintendo 64 - Super Mario 64. I got mine launch year, and it's really held up better than any N64 game I can think of, although I enjoyed the Zeldas, Mystical Ninja, etc.
PlayStation - Final Fantasy VII. I bought my PS1 with my paycheck from my first job just so I could play FFVII.
Game Boy Advance - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon.
PS2 - Gran Turismo 3 (bundled), Final Fantasy X. FFX was the game I wanted. Went and bought it the day after Christmas.
Gamecube - Bloodrayne. Was a birthday gift.
Nintendo DS - Super Mario 64 DS. Wasn't as good as the N64 original, but I still enjoyed it.
Wii - Metal Slug Anthology. Seriously. Also downloaded Donkey Kong Country the day I got the Wii.
Xbox 360 - Virtua Fighter 5 Online. That, surprisingly (or not, if you know me) was the reason I bought a Xbox 360 - online fighting, and part of why I bought a 360 before I got a PS3 (the PS3 version lacked online play).
PSP - Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
PS3 - Valkyria Chronicles. This was the game I wanted a PS3 for anyway.
Wii U - Resident Evil Revelations.
3DS - Fire Emblem: Awakening
Sega Saturn - Virtua Fighter 2 came with the used Saturn I bought, the first game I bought for it on my own was Shining Force III.

Great idea San Andreas!
Gameboy: Got it with Wario Land, but first I bought was Pokemon Blue
GBA: Spider-man. Actually held up pretty well when I played it after I got older
Xbox- Spider-man 2. I got Halo 2 for Christmas, so this was the first I bought. One of my favorite sandbox games still.
Nintendo DS- Kirby: Canvas Curse- completely sold me on touch screen games.
Wii- Zelda: Twilight Princess. My entire Xmas fund went to the Wii so I bought this myself.
360- Mass Effect and Halo 3
PSP- Daxter
PS2- Jak and Daxter
PS3- Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time (Uncharted 2 was bundled)
3DS- Super Street Fighter 4 3D
Vita- Rayman Origins
Wii U- New Super Mario Bros U
And PS4 will be Skylanders Swap Force

Re: What was the first game you bought for each of your consoles?
Super Nintendo - not sure
Game Boy - Pokemon Red and Blue (technically my brother and sister's but I played them)
Game Boy Colour - Pokemon Gold and Silver (again, technically not mine)
Game Boy Advance - Reign of Fire. Yeah, based on that dragon movie. I also got Pokemon Crystal but that's still a GBC game
DS - I think it was Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. Not a very good version of it
3DS - RE Revelations and Ocarina of Time
Nintendo 64 - Pokemon Stadium, I think
Gamecube (my sister's but she never plays it) - Wind Waker, Metroid Prime
Playstation - I think it was NHL Faceoff 98
Ps2 - ATV Offroad Fury 2. This game was actually pretty good. I played it somewhat consistently until I got my Ps3.
PSP - Patapon 2
Ps3 - Motorstorm (bundled) and The Orange Box
PS Vita - Persona 4 Golden

Re: What was the first game you bought for each of your consoles?
Some of these are pack-ins, but I don't remember what I got next.
NES: Super Mario Bros.
Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog
SNES: Probably A Link to the Past or Super Mario World, but I got this way after the fact. Sometime in the 2000's
PlayStation/GBA: Can't recall since these were actually my brother's.
N64: Ocarina of Time I think, but also late to getting this one like the SNES.
PS2: NCAA Football
Gamecube: Animal Crossing. Tried this on a friend's and thought it was the coolest thing. Also got Luigi's Mansion with my Cube I think.
PSP: Daxter
DS: NSMB
Wii: Twilight Princess
PS3: Resistance and NBA 2K7
Xbox 360: Got this for my birthday in college with Gears 1, Lost Planet and Kameo I think. I also went and bought myself Halo 1 for $10 or something so that was the first Xbox game I got I guess.
Vita: Uncharted, Lumines and Hot Shots Golf
3DS: Super Mario 3D Land
NES: Super Mario Bros.
Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog
SNES: Probably A Link to the Past or Super Mario World, but I got this way after the fact. Sometime in the 2000's

Re: What was the first game you bought for each of your consoles?
Ha! I did the exact same thing with Final Fantasy VII!pspiddy wrote:Very cool thread. I'm going to stick with first games for each console and not what I, myself, purchased. I think that was your gist anyways.
PS2 - Tekken Tag. Purchased the game and stared at it for a few weeks before I got my midnight release console.

Re: What was the first game you bought for each of your consoles?
NES: Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt bundle. I rented a lot for this console but I'm pretty sure SMB 3 was the earliest purchase.
Super NES: Super Mario World.
Game Boy: Super Mario Land
Playstation: It was my brother's console so he bought most of the games early on. I think the first actual game he got was Pong (of all fucking things) but I know the first one I bought was Street Fighter Alpha 3.
N64: One of the happiest July 4ths of my life (2002, I think). It was on a Saturday and I had to work the morning shift. When I got off I drove to one of the local game stores that just happened to have a sale on used N64 games. I purchased a console and the following games: Super Mario 64, Goldeneye and Ocarina of Time.
GBA: Metroid Zero Mission
PS2: Max Payne. (Gah...)
Dreamcast: Skies of Arcadia
Gamecube: The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition
Xbox 360: Burnout Paradise
PSP: Space Invaders Extreme
DS: Super Mario 64 DS.
Wii: New Super Mario Bros. Wii bundle. Bought Super Mario Galaxy.
Vita: Call of Duty Declassified bundle. It was shit, so I count the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection as the first purchase.
PS3: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Super NES: Super Mario World.
Game Boy: Super Mario Land

Re: What was the first game you bought for each of your consoles?
NES - Mario/Duckhunt, but I'm assuming that is almost everyone's.
SNES - Super Mario World. Turned out to be my favorite game from the system as well.
Gameboy - No idea, but if I were to guess I think it might be Kirby.
PS1 - NHL Open Ice and Tekken 2. Back in the day I was all about sports games and fighting games. Times sure do change.
PS2 - Timespliters. Picked up this, a Dual Shock 2 controller, and The Matrix on DVD before I even had a PS2. The day I got my PS2 I also got the newest FIFA which I believe was FIFA 2001.
PS3 - Resistance. Bought the system planning on selling it online when they were going for $1800. The more it sat there the more I wanted a game for it, so I got Resistance based purely on my love for Insomniac's prior games. Also, it looked the best out of the bunch.
PSP - Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories. Really great game.
PS Vita - Uncharted Golden Abyss.
Out of all of the launch games I received, Super Mario World is my favorite.

Nah, couldn't help myself. I read the manual, wistfully thinking "Someday soon...."pspiddy wrote:Did you keep it in the shrinkwrap until you got your console?! Human beings are silly.
Come to think of it, I bought Valkyria Chronicles quite a ways before I bought my PS3. But in that case, I was waiting until I could find a 60-gigger PS3 at a reasonable price. By that point, PS2 BC was long gone from the PS3. Eventually, I located a 60-gigger at the Hastings in Denton, Texas and made a day trip to go get it.

How is Modnation Racers for the Vita? Always kind of wanted that game for the Vita, despite the lack of multiplayer which does seem really stupid to be missing.

Re: What was the first game you bought for each of your consoles?
It was fun but I still ended up trading it in eventually. I think what killed it for me was creating mods was really slow and laggy and that was kind of important to me. Every time I tried I just thought "I'd rather be doing this on the PS3". The racing is good though and it's worth it if it's cheap enough.

Re: What was the first game you bought for each of your consoles?
NES: Super Mario Bros. Never knew what happened to that NES that was at my doorstep one xmas...
N64: Super Mario 64 and Cruisn' USA were gifts I got but the first real game I bought for it was Pokemon Stadium.
GBC: Pokemon. Because if you don't buy Nintendo handhelds for Pokemon, then you're buying them for the wrong reasons.
Gamecube: Windwaker. I got Super Mario Sunshine and Melee with my GCN, but Windwaker was the first game I bought for it.
GBA SP: Pokemon Ruby version. See GBC
DS: I got Super Mario 64 with my DS when I first bought it, but I only got a DS for Pokemon.
Wii: Super Mario Galaxy. It was then that I needed a Wii to play SMG, no matter the cost. And my GCN died on me.
PS3: Soul Calibur 4. Love the character creation thing but don't like it as much as SC2.
3DS: OoT3D. I didn't buy a game when the 3DS first launched but I still had Pokemon White. I only got a 3DS for the eventual 3DS Pokemon game, which I was right and justifies the 250 dollar price tag for me.
360: It was a gift but the first game I got for it was Banjo-Kazooie: Nut's and Bolt's my first disc based game, but the first real game I got for the 360 was the original Banjo-Kazooie.
Wii U: Windwaker HD. It's Windwaker, in HD. Nuff said.

Re: What was the first game you bought for each of your consoles?
N64 - Either Ocarina of Time or Super Smash Bros. I still remember the first time I saw Ocarina of Time when I was at a friends house, shit was crazy.
Gameboy - Pokemon Yellow probably. I lost so many saves while playing that because "This warning about not turning it off while it's saving is so silly".
PS1 - No fucking clue. FF7 or 8 maybe. I honestly don't remember, could have been some film licensed shit.
Gameboy Advanced SP - Pokemon Sapphire I think. Got it when I was in the hospital for a week or two, the doctors kept telling me I was playing it way too much and would damage my eyes.
PS2 - Final Fantasy X. Had to go away for a weekend right after I got it, but I took it with me to play at the peoples house we were staying at but forgot my memory card meaning I had to play loads of the opening again ;_;.
Gamecube - Windwaker. Legend of Zelda games, only reason to own Ninty consoles.
PSP - Lord of the Rings Tactics. I don't even remember why I wanted a PSP.
Xbawx 360 - Dead or Alive 4. My mum bought it for me while picking the console up. She clearly didn't know how fan servicey it was, haha. Now that I think about it, I don't even know why I wanted an Xbox either.
Wii - Twilight Princess. Again, Legend of Zelda games.
PSTRIPLE - Assassin's Creed 1. Was so hyped for that game, the trailers for that shit were mindblowing. Was damn happy with it too, despite it being poorly designed as fuck.
PSVita - Persona 4 Golden. Bought it before I even bought the console itself, so.
PSQUADRUPLE - MGSV. Planning ahead.
