Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Valve broke Steam Controller configuration. I don't know whether to put them on my videogame company shitlist or not, because they don't make games anymore.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Would it be ridiculous to do a Top Five for favorite games this gen so far? I assume everyone here understands the concept of "so far" and I figure we could check in periodically to see how people's lists have changed due to opinions changing or new games being added.
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I feel bad differing from all the critics because it feels like I'm just trying to be different but...Undertale is OK? I got the final bit and for reasons that might spoil the story there are no more random encounters. So no more gold without doing a stupid in-game exploit to farm gold. People online are like "yeah, just do this time consuming exploit" but...that's not fun. That's dumb. I can't be bothered! I mean, it's kind of clever because it turns certain elements of JRPGs on their heads and the writing is decent but I feel like that's not enough to qualify as this "Savior of RPGs" as people are saying it is.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Why would you need gold in Undertale?
Also anybody that calls it anything like a "Saviour of RPGs" is dumb because it's only slightly more of an RPG than LA Noire was... It meets the bare minimum requirements and that's about it

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Healing items, mostly. I mean, yeah, I could just play PERFECTLY but on that last boss dodging everything would be an exercise in frustration. Plus...not going to lie. Looked at a lot of the endings. Meh. The pay off wasn't that great.
Again, I really like the idea and I loved some of the writing but I can't say I got sucked in personally. Not saying it's a bad game just...underwhelming.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
i don't think it would be, Trip.
Undertale won gamefaqs recent best game poll, beating a great deal of classic great games. If I ever play that, it better be shooting pizza out of the screen into my mouth while playing after all of the games it beat on that poll.

I think people are just swept up in the hype. Again, not because Undertale is bad, it's not. Great music, great writing, good idea. But I think people got a bit swept up in the novelty. Maybe I'm wrong and I just missed a bunch of stuff in it but...*shrug*

For me it combined a lot of what I loved about The Stanley Parable and Persona 4, but with dogs. It's basically made for me. I never got wrapped up in the community at all so I dunno what they're so excited about. Don't really plan to, either

I thought it was a really good game. My favorite thing about it was the great cast of characters and the humor.

I'd definitely recommend Xillia if you're in the mood for a RPG.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Wii U is my favorite console of the three. It doesn't have even close to as many games as PS4 or XB1, but I get more excited for Wii U games than the other two and find myself satisfied more often. Also amazing console if you want MP offline.
That said waif and see what's happening with the NX first. For all we know it could have BC with the Wii U or bare minimum the Wii U and it's games are gonna plummet in price soon.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I really love the Wii U Gamepad. It is amazing. There are definitely some absolute gems on the system, but I feel the library (as far as quality games go) is still small and not likely to grow a whole lot going forward. What games would you be buying it for Twolf?
NX should be formally announced/ blown out by/at E3 I'd assume.

Love mine, what with games like the Zeldas, Bayonetta 2, Mario Maker, and whatnot, plus quite a few upcoming games like Tokyo Mirage Sessions (final name of the Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem SRPG). Probably the most solid library on a per-game basis since I'm not interested in the annual refreshes on the other two consoles. The Virtual Console isn't as robust as the Wii Virtual Console over all but I'm loving the GBA games on it.

Do they have SNES games on the virtual console as well?

Yeah, and that's an area where the Wii U is weaker than the Wii, sadly. Most of the Nintendo standbys are there, as well as some Capcom and Konami games, but Square's titles aren't on it. There is Earthbound, of course.

Did the Wii have them but the WiiU doesn't? That seems...odd.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
The thing is you can get them through the Wii menu and it's Virtual Console but it hasn't been optimized for the Wii U. So if you bought FFVI on there for instance you wouldn't be able to use the Gamepad or any Wii U specific controller, it would have to be a Wii one

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I can't get over the fact that the Wii U won't have an exclusive Zelda title (this is pretty much completely unacceptable right?) or a Metroid title at all (there is at least precedent for this... I guess). Outside of Kirby, the other big Nintendo series' entries on the Wii U have been pretty dope though.
Re: Gaming Chat Thread
It's kind of sounding like i might wait for it to significantly drop in price or see what the next console is.
Shame.

I want to be if that makes sense. I like the tech and the idea of it, I just need to make sure that if I spend $400-600 on this thing that I'm getting my money's worth out of it.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
Pretty much what greenie said is the same for me. VR seems like a cool experience and could very well be where the future of games is headed but the price of admission is high, and I want to see games that move past the gimmick of the tech otherwise we have a very expensive Wii again. Problem is, only way to really look at the games is to have a VR headset since watching a youtube video of VR doesn't really represent it.
For the record I think VR is genuinely more interesting than motion controls.

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I'm really interested in the Vive mostly, and just the ability to use VR to simulate a giant screen. But I'm waiting until the technology is a lot cheaper and there's actually good software for it. Plus I don't want to be spending too much time playing VR games. Some of the games coming to PS VR seem interesting.
What I'd really love with VR though is something like laser tag, but 100x cooler.

I remember years ago there was a VR headset that put Pacman pellets in the real world and had one person run around collecting them while everyone else was a ghost chasing them

Re: Gaming Chat Thread
I am having a hard time getting excited for it, but I think that is because it is a hard sell through videos and the like. I'd need to try it I guess.
Also on another note, I'm seeing talks of incremental upgrades for the PS4 and Xbox One which I would not like.
