Re: Final Fantasy Thread
Are you referring to the strategy guide? This one is falling apart because I used to take it to school all of the time like it was my bible, but I wouldn't say it's thick. It really does a shit job of telling you things. If I'm not lazy I'll have to take some pics to show what I mean.

As I said on twitter, I bought the PS4 port. Don't know when I'll get to it.

It can't be the same as mine, because it's relatively tiny in my opinion. Even though I don't like Final Fantasy VIII, I'm really sad that I lost that one at a funeral home. The guide is probably more interesting than the game.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
Final Fantasy games are on sale so I picked up Final Fantasy IV, the PSP version. I beat the game before on the Gameboy Advance, but I wanted the extra story that's in this one, plus being able to play it on my Vita and in widescreen is a plus. I haven't started it up yet, but I'll probably do it as soon as I finish Severed. For some reason I have an itch to play the Super Nintendo Final Fantasy games again, even though I've beaten them all minus IV within the past 3 or 4 years.
Who else wishes Square would just do what's right and return to the most beloved battle system, the ATB? Man, I miss the good ol' days when it comes to this series.

What? You mean spending ten years making a game that looks like a souped up Kingdom Hearts with 4 main character dudes who wear all black and then the one female character having huge tits but is still a good female character because she's smart or whatever ISN'T the direction you were hoping for in the series?!

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
Nope, not at all. Both of the demos I played I didn't like, the characters are lame, the combat sucks, but the music at least seemed great again. I'll get it, but I doubt I'll enjoy it.
Aren't they making a mobile game that's more like the Final Fantasy games of old?

Not sure, but I Am Setsuna is supposed to take after Chrono Trigger and seems the closest we'll get.

I'm pretty excited for that. We should (and anyone else that wants to join) should play through a Final Fantasy game and discuss it. I'm basically telling you to buy Final Fantasy IV and play that with me.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
I am pleasantly surprised with how much I am enjoying Final Fantasy XV. Right now I'm really only wandering around doing hunts and side quests, but seems like the makings are there for a special Final Fantasy again.
One negative is the graphics don't seem that great. The environments seem nice, but the character models look slightly better than PS3. Maybe I was spoiled by playing Uncharted a lot recently, but these character models aren't that impressive to me. I remember when Square was always one of the best for graphics, doesn't seem to be the same case anymore.
Soundtrack seems good, wish I could hear more though. A lot of time when I'm wandering around the music will start up, but it doesn't always do it and I'm not too sure why.
Combat is fast and fun and seems like there is a lot of room for character growth with how they do abilities.
All in all, I'm having a lot of fun right now.

Anyone like to discuss the new game? I'm hoping that there is someone.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
Me neither. Never been a FF fan. IV and X seemed like my kind of thing if I'd finish them and am excited to give XII a go on modern hardware, but I prefer other RPGs

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
I'm not quite as much of a negative nancy on FF as greenie, but FF burned me with XIII so I wasn't going to rush out and get this day 1. Plus, you all know of my backlog...and now I'm ignoring it to play Bloodborne again so...

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
I was the same as you, Final Fantasy XIII left such a nasty taste in my mouth, and then they gave it 2 sequels! If any game should have had 2 sequel it should have been IX, because that world was so big and the characters were so fun.
I went into this game expecting nothing, and I have been so pleased with what I have got. Not much story. In a way it's like the Phantom Pain in that there is so much to it, but yet so little. The quests are easy to complete, but they're addicting, I want to see how much XP I can bank before I go and rest and see what level it takes me to. The combat is fun despite being completely different of older FF games, which you couldn't say for XIII. Driving around listening to old Final Fantasy tracks is great! It won't be my favorite Final Fantasy or in my top 3, but it does what Final Fantasy used to do for me, and that is entertain me and lock me in adventure mode for hours upon hours.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
The game director who works for me in Japan and his wife have been playing it in Japan and have said very similar things about it so that is indeed encouraging to hear more hardcore fans of the series take to it. I'll be away from my PS4 and PC for about a month though so I won't get to it until January.

Just started this up. So far enjoying it more than I thought I would. It has more charm than I thought an open world FF game would have...so far so good!

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
I went into it thinking I wouldn't like it at all, but turned out really liking it. It's no Final Fantasy VII or IX, but it'd be middle in the pack of favorite Final Fantasy games, and honestly that's a good place to be.
If you really like doing mindless side quests, you'll like it even more once they start opening up more.
