Re: Now Playing
At least it's something. I was doing a 3 day trial at a warehouse place earlier for 12+ hours a day and they didn't pay me anything. I'll hear if I get the job next week hopefully.
I seem to be the only person who didn't like Dragon's Dogma ;_;.
Got Catherine, Hitman: Absolution, Thomas Was Alone. Thank you, PS+.

Dragon's Dogma didn't really even interest me. Just seemed like another Skyrim really...though I liked Skyrim (but for all the wrong reasons).

Re: Now Playing
It kind of is just another Skyrim. It's basically a TES game developed by a Japanese studio. It's far from perfect, but combat and exploration are keeping me interested. I always found that stuff in TES boring. The story's starting to get interesting rn too, but it's kind of stupid how some subplots don't affect the main story. I tried sleeping with the Duchess, and the Duke had me tortured in his dungeon. Yet as part of the main story im still allowed free roam in his castle and am still part of his knights.
Also the character creation system is great. (I could never make a good looking character in TES EVER) I love my character and pawn. Made my character look like a teenager, and my Pawn is a greatsword loli. My character's name is my handle, and my Pawn is named Alice. If you don't get that reference i will punch you.

I really liked Dragon's Dogma. The combat is something I would like to see in more action-RPGs, and the character customization is also better than the vast majority of them. The ludonarrative dissonance doesn't bother me so much, I've seen so much worse in games over the years.

I didn't like Dragon's Dogma either, Ranger. I only played the demo but I didn't enjoy the combat and it seemed like I could just sit back and let the AI win the game for me.
I've been playing Persona 2: Innocent Sin. There's some annoying gameplay bits that keep getting me stuck, but I'm liking it overall. I'd love for 5 to be sort of a combination of this and 4

I like how its got a huge open world and has combat like that. Most open world RPGs have some of the worst combat ever, and that's really one of my biggest problems with them. As for the story thing i don't really mind too much because its kind of interesting having subplots that basically say "THE DUKE IS BAD" while the main story presents him as a hero even if they kind of conflict one another.
The pawn system is probably one of my favorite uses of network features ever. It's really cool sending what's basically AI you kind of program yourself to other players worlds. It's cool to see how your friends made their pawns too, but goddammit most people I know made mage pawns, which adding too many of those heavily unbalances my party XD

with the expansion out the original version will probably drop in price fast. I think its around $20 now.
Re: Now Playing
I still need to give Persona 2: Innocent Sin another try. I just really didnt like the gameplay. Now I think that's my fault for spending way too much time talking to every single demon instead of fighting though. That was not a fun way to play...
I've always thought Dragon's Dogma looked interesting but not enough to purchase it. Too many other games I'd rather get to first. But I did really like the combat from what I played of the demo.

Reading this makes me now wonder why Square hasn't made a game with Final Fantasy lore that is a hack and slash. Something like Crisis Core, but with a Monster Hunter vibe. Man, now I want a game I'll never get.

Isn't that basically what the Crystal Chronicles games do?

I've never played those, so they could very well be like that.

Re: Now Playing
I played the Gamecube one and it seemed pretty much exactly like that except one of the players had to carry around this stupid orb and everyone had to use GBAs for MP. Bleh. The DS and Wii ones got around this from what I heard though.

Well they should make a new one. In HD. And make it better. I want all of the jobs from Final Fantasy V to be a possibility.

Re: Now Playing
I actually really liked the Gamecube version it was pretty cool on single player imo. You had a moogle to carry it.
Re: Now Playing
I love Moogles, especially in IX. Kupo kupo! For some reason I loved delivering their mail.

Re: Now Playing
Couldn't you give the moogle baths too? Crystal Chronicles was a pretty good game but carrying around that bucket or whatever was really horrible, even with the moogle helping. I never tried the later games.

Yeah i think he might get dirty or something and you had to wash him. I can' quite remember.
Re: Now Playing
So I'm still playing Metal Gear Rising and now I've got a question for anyone else who played it. Is the boss fight with Monsoon REALLY fucking difficult or do I just suck? I think I already know the answer to that but whatever.. I just have to ask because I died horribly once but I was being button mashy and stupid. But I still only barely got by the second time and it was so epic and crazy I got all sweaty while fighting him. SWEATY because of a game.

Metal Gear Rising seems like something I'd only check out if it hit the bargain bin. I don't think it looks bad or anything it just looks...silly, like Vanquish. Fun but worth not worth $60.
How long is it?

From what I've heard it's really short, maybe 6-8 hours? That's why I didn't buy it right away at full price either. I'm really glad I got it for my birthday though, I love the over the top silliness of it and its really fun and challenging. So I highly recommend it when you find it at the right price.

Re: Now Playing
Metal Gear Rising's my favorite game this year so far. It's short, but I'm replaying the levels a lot and doing a bunch of VR missions so I'm getting my money's worth. And yeah, that boss is a bitch.

Re: Now Playing
So I just finished Catherine and I gotta say it was pretty interesting. The puzzles were actually really challenging and the whole social aspect in the bar was great. I disliked the direction it took towards the end but it's still good enough for me to recommend and picking apart its design to analyse feels really refreshing compared to most games. Not perfect but far better and more enjoyable than most games I've played recently. Will probably end up purchasing a physical copy of it eventually just for the collection.
