Top Five Worst Video Game Endings

The topic title says it all. Worst endings in video games. If you are too lazy to hide the spoilers when discussing them (and you shouldn't be too lazy because it is very simple) at least bold the name beforehand so people can see what game it is and scan by if they care enough not to know.

Keeping things vague on this, so I don't think I'm spoiling anything
1. Assassin's Creed 3- Fuck that game
2. Original Mass Effect 3 Ending- It really is that bad. Can't stand when people act like it's trying to say something or is something different. That doesn't change that it was a hack job that wasn't proofread, was full of plot holes, and made me feel the galaxy was worse off for saving it.
3. Kotor 2- Without the restoration mod, it really is that bad. Characters randomly disappear, huge plot threads are dropped, and it has a bad cliffhanger. Restoration mod at least fixes the first two while TOR explains the latter.
4. Any unresolved cliffhanger- Psychonauts immediately comes to mind, but any time there's a cliffhanger that never gets a sequel bugs me.
5. Call of Duty Ghosts- This is more the fun bad. Everything that happens here is so stupid, yet I couldn't help but laugh

1. Assassin's Creed 3. I concur with Volvo. Not only is it gibberish, its also boring.
2. Borderlands. Just kill a big monster? ......Okay....
3. MGS 2: Sons of Liberty. Well, its not boring but it is gibberish.
4. Super Double Dragon. The whole game sucks but you beat a worthless main boss and then.....credits. No one gives a shit.
5. Batman: Arkham Asylum. Final Joker fight. So uncharacteristic and lazy.

I'm going to try and stay a little obscure for diversity.

1. Shenmue II - The fact that it was released in the states after is was known there would be no III didn't help the cliffhanger ending. If it can even be called a cliffhanger.

2. Tekken 5: Lee's Ending - I had to look up which specific ending because all I could remember was the unnecessary homoeroticism. Pretty sure it wasn't worth even that little bit of effort.

3. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - The game just stops in the middle of a complete story. It literally ends on a preview of Soul Reaver 2. The real kick in the nuts is how the preview is mostly showing the same damn environments and areas.

4. Ghouls 'N Ghosts - This is one of my favorite Genesis games. When I finally beat it, it told me I had to beat it again to vanquish the real boss. It's kind of cool in retrospect, but as a pre-teen I was PISSED! (Fun Fact:  It wasn't until I put a Vanilla Ice cassette on auto-flip that I beat it twice to get the true ending. Don't underestimate the power of Ice!)

5. NES Pro Wrestling - From the game that brings the incredible victory slogan "A Winner Is You" is the truly epic ending for becoming champion: "Congratulations! You Are A Champion!".

Honorable Mentions from other lists here:

Kotor 2, MGS 2, Super Double Dragon

1. Fallout 3 (ending without Broken Steel) - was a pretty weaksauce ending by any measure. At least Broken Steel did rectify things a bit, but the original ending had less substance to it than the endings to a lot of NES games.

2. Virtua Fighter 5 (any version): I love Virtua Fighter, far more than I do Tekken, but VF has almost no ending at all other than the credits, which is probably one of the big reasons why it fell behind Tekken in sales in the US.

3. Call of Duty 4: A rather anticlimactic ending.

4. Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle (Game Boy): After 80 ball-breaking levels and a manual that suggests that Bugs Bunny is trying to save his girlfriend, all you get is a screen of the Bugs Bunny sprite doing his victory dance and saying "CONGRATURATIONS! YOU ARE GOOD PLAYER!"

5. Almost any Simpsons video game: You get a quick still screen of the family, then roll credits.

Honestly, this one was kind of hard, other than Fallout 3 (keep in mind, I never messed with Mass Effect much and I certainly never got invested in the series enough to be affected by the ending to 3) I can't think of any endings that made me angry. In order to find bad endings I almost had to go back to the early days of gaming, and considering that most game designers had the bare minimum of space to create a playable game back then, I didn't think that was fair. I only included the last two games (which were both 8- and 16-bit era games) because by then games had been made which did have satisfying endings.

MGS2 gets two votes? It's the worst story of the bunch, but surely there is other shit games out there that can be picked ahead of that. I'm surprised that made the cut over GOW3.

Then remember your civic duty to have AC3 as a pick.

I've never played it. Never been interested in any of those games. Zero AC games have been played by me.

DO IT ANYWAY.

I'll try to put a list together but the ending of Alone in the Dark for Wii might be the dumbest I've ever seen. This girl you meet up with turns out to be a demon and she kills you. The end. I'm sure there were more endings than that but even then it was just so poorly put together. There's no climax or resolution any type and the scene itself is so bad that you don't even know what's happening until the credits roll.

1. Mass Effect 3 - even with the revisions, which do help somewhat it still didn't quite sit right with the rest of the game.

2. Final Fantasy XIII - Piece of shit end to a piece of shit story with piece of shit characters. I'm not sure if my opinion on this game is coming across or not...

3. Enslaved - Just...what?

4. MGS4 - Meryl ends up marrying the guy who shits himself in MGS1 and 2. Does this sound like terrible, awful fanfiction to you? Nope! Unfortunately it's canon. This is just one of MANY problems with the ending of MGS4. That said, the fist fight is god damn awesome. But most everything else is stupid.

5. Agreed. Any cliffhanger. Notable mention - Half Life 2: Episode 2...great ending but not without a follow up.
