Nope, although it probably comes off harsher than I intend it to. They might not be in 85% of the game but they'll still be in the dialogue sections which are way more important than the fight with the random monster in the wild #284. I'll still carry on with FFIX soon on the weekend or something but my urge to play it just dropped massively.
And no, you can't skip her/him/it. You can avoid her on the first disc but you need her to proceed in the second disc. As soon as I realised I'd probably have to take her I spent like 10 minutes surfing the net trying to find a way around it, so.
