Should I Buy It?
Not really sure if there's a thread like this (did a quick browse but didn't see anything), but I figured if not it would be a good thread for would be purchasers. Use it as a way to ask if a game is worth putting the money out for. If you're an owner of the game in question, try to take the inquisitor's taste in games when telling them to get it.

Re: Should I Buy It?
I see that Okami is $6.99 right now if you have Playstation Plus. I've never played the game, but the art style of the game always interested me. From what I hear, the gameplay is similar to Zelda (some even say it is a better version of Zelda). I've played some Zelda games, but only a few. What I played I have liked, but I got all the way to the water temple in Ocarina and never played again. To be honest, I'm not even sure what kind of game Okami is, but I've heard good things about it. Hopefully if I were to buy it I wouldn't feel how I did about Beyond Good and Evil, a game that was praised but I thought was mediocre.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Should I Buy It?
Okami is very pretty but I found it to be a really dull game. It has so many mindless and pointless cutscenes with the most throwaway dialogue. The gameplay itself is very simple and repetitive as well as being extremely easy so there's no tense or exciting combat. It's few creative ideas and delicious artstyle weren't enough to make up for the other factors to me. Helping fix up sections of each area is kinda satisfying and probably the only part of the game I really enjoyed.
I never managed to finish it but I played more than just a few hours. Unless you're really curious about it or don't have anything else to play, I wouldn't recommend it.
I also think Beyond Good and Evil is mediocre. It's combat was fun for a bit but everything else about the game... Blurgh..

Okami is very pretty, but it's very...VERY easy.
That said, I enjoyed it. I can't say I disliked the game in the slightest. Depends what you're going into it for. The visuals are great, the controls are responsive, the powers are clever. But if you're looking for a game with a challenge look elsewhere.

Being easy doesn't bother me. Does it have a good story? I see the dialogue is bad but hopefully the story is all right.

It's very fairy tale esque, which didn't bug me. It's not deep or complex by any means though. I think you go more for the atmosphere and the world in that game more than anything. It was a very relaxing game...

I'd say pick it up if you don't have any particular problems with the Zelda formula and you like the sound of a world and story that are built around mythology. I don't think I ever ran into anything that was as annoying as OoT's water temple, and since you're a JRPG fan I don't think you'd have a big problem with the repetition.
I just wish there was a way to mute the "voices" in that game

Re: Should I Buy It?
It's actually a $13 price cut. Game is normally $20 and it is on half, with an additional saving for PS+ users. It's a game I've always wanted to try and it sounds like something I like, I'm just fearing I'll have Beyond Good and Evil regrets. I think I'll purchase it. I have a backlog, but with saving for a wedding I won't be buying big releases like I used to. And this game seems to be at a good price and lately I love HD classics. If I do buy it and they give it out for free next month I'll be super pissed (looking at you Rayman on Vita).

Okami is a must buy at $7. It is like Zelda in its formula, but where I think Zelda shines in its dungeons, I feel Okami shines elsewhere. It has a really great beautiful world that is really fun to explore. I like the characters and story a lot. The celestial brush mechanic is a genuinely original one where you paint on the world to do different things. It's brimming with content. And coming from someone who likes Beyond Good & Evil, Okami is way better. Right up there with the best Zelda has to offer, but again their strengths lie in different areas.
They're both much more worth your money than Journey. Figured that was noteworthy.

You're thinking of Ps2 classics. Okami is a remaster

Does it have a big open world to explore like Zelda? I like those. And Journey was awesome.

Re: Should I Buy It?
Yeah big open world (though opens parts at a time like Zelda I guess). Really think the overworld is better than Zelda though. Not sure if that is what is generally thought to be true or not, but I believe it.

Sweet. I'm downloading. I love big open worlds.

I can't wait until the world starts opening up, but I like what I've played so far. When they do these HD remakes, you really start to appreciate the amazing graphics last gen PS2 games had.

Re: Should I Buy It?
I heard back when it came out that if you'd already played it there wasn't much incentive to getting the re-release. But I suppose at that price for the upgraded graphics, you may as well...

Re: Should I Buy It?
I remember reading about how the HD remake for that game was really horrible, and that the graphics didn't look that much better. So if you're getting it for HD graphics like you find in other HD remakes, I heard this one is sorely lacking. I can ask a co-worker who I know bought it to find out for sure if you'd like.

I never played it, just what I remember reading when it was released. Glad to hear otherwise though.

I normally can't get into SRPGs, even X-Com (which I really liked) I quit halfway through, but I was really addicted to the 3DS FE.
