I also am not a fan of SRPG. They're just not fun and typically the battles take forever to finish.

Fire Emblem Awakening is awesome. I have no idea how it compares to the GBA games but I'd definitely recommend it

Re: Should I Buy It?
A lot of people told me its pretty good, and that the ending isnt complete shit. I havent played it myself though
Re: Should I Buy It?
From what I gather, the game is about a long line of assassins right? Why haven't they done some kind of Japan ninja shit? Only makes sense to me.

Also has to do with that Desmond as doesn't have any Asian descent and you're living as his ancestors. Some Middle Eastern and Native American, but no Asian.

Well I did love it after 2, like it Brotherhood-Revelations. It was only until after 3 when it became dead to me.

Never played one of them, despite liking Prince of Persia games.

If you hate it that much why are you considering buying the new one?

Re: Should I Buy It?
Because that'd have been the sensible and obvious thing to do but as this is a big games company with a popular franchise they'll never do it.BretBaber wrote:From what I gather, the game is about a long line of assassins right? AC1 investigation gameplay to boost knowledge of the target and environment as well as improve the environment for your attack + AC2 mission variation - Gimmicky shit like tower defense + Higher difficulty setting to make stealth worth while and tense X Asian setting or Victorian England as Jack the fucking Ripper = 10/10 height of the franchise.
Super simple stuff. Ubisoft are king of potential wasters now.
Sounds about right. 2 was great apart from it's retarded ending, Brotherhood was fairly shit but had a few neat new features, then that was somehow topped by Revelations being truly awful shite because wow tower defense what we always wanted. Upon hearing of the setting for AC3 and seeing the trailers with "I don't need to learn about a country I'll never visit MURRIKA FUCK YEAH MUH FREEDUMS BORN IN THE U.S.A" it was confirmed the series was 100% dead before that game even came out.volvocrusher wrote:Well I did love it after 2, like it Brotherhood-Revelations. Re: Should I Buy It?
While that actually ended up being the case for AC3, I think the America setting was a great choice. I think they should have made both sides of it Templars instead of one clearly good and one clearly bad. Or at least have the Revolutionaries also up to some shady stuff. There weren't even any real conspiracies to it, the plot was just Connor doing things from the Revolutionary War.

Re: Should I Buy It?
Considering all the other places they could have set it that'd have been far more interesting I thought it was terrible. It's exactly what me and my friend joked about them setting the third one in back when the first came out, I'm not even kidding.
Re: Should I Buy It?
The series has always been about exploring non-traditional game settings though and Colonial America is one of those. It has a ton of potential. You're kind of just coming off anti-America here. Yeah, they fucked it all up, but the idea itself was not bad.

Re: Should I Buy It?
That's true about them exploring non-traditional settings. From the bit I played, which honestly wasn't much, it just didn't seem to work well with the free-running aspect because of how spacious everything is. When I see me and others online playing it by just running down the roads instead of crazy next level freerunning, something seems a little off.
And I am pretty anti-America anyway.

Re: Should I Buy It?
Games aren't really hurting for Asian settings. I think they said it'd be boring because of that. I guess AC4 hints at China and Egypt though for the next one (I haven't played it just heard that). I thought America might work but was worried about the boring architecture of colonial America which ended up being a huge problem.
Re: Should I Buy It?
I think they should have put more into the wilderness bits personally. Give a lot of cliffs to climb, some really tall trees. It would have worked well. Of course, this would have been moot if they didn't make jumping from tree to tree so damn boring with the fucking all purpose auto run button.

Re: Should I Buy It?
The setting was what really disappointed me in AC3. It was just so damn boring and not interesting to explore at all. I knew that's how it would be but bought it anyway and ugh that was such a waste of money. I guess I was never a huge fan of the series anyway, I just happened to really love AC2 and that's it.
I would love to see an Asian setting though. I can't imagine how that would be boring but maybe that's just me :/

Re: Should I Buy It?
Really it should have been set either in the Industrial Revolution or French Revolution. My only guess is they wanted a continent shift for 3 and Colonial America was a more logical shift than an Asian setting story wise, as well as still being non-traditional for games. Like Trip said, we get games in Asia all the time, especially Japan.

Re: Should I Buy It?
Yeah, I get that Asia would make little sense story wise, but I felt like colonial America was just as bad a choice for the gameplay. I'm sure there could have been a way for them to pull it off, and that's what I was hoping for when I bought AC3 but that ended up not being the case.
And we might get games in Asia all the time but I'd still love to be able to freely run around China with the amount of detail AC has in their environments. That's pretty much what it would take for me to try one of those games again.

Re: Should I Buy It?
We might get quite a few games set in Asia but I think the AC gameplay would bring a really interesting take on it all, especially considering the environments for the AC games are usually pretty vast compared to most. Although I'm not sure if just a setting rehaul, unless it was a goddamn amazing one, would be enough to rekindle my enjoyment with that series.
Is the tutorial for AC4 still like abajjilion hours long?

Re: Should I Buy It?
The setting of Japan doesn't excite me that much unless they do some samurai wars or something of that nature, but I think a ninja styled character would just be really cool.
Like I said before I've never played them, but I thought the setting of the 3rd game was the best looking setting. But I also love snow in games, and most of the videos/screens I saw had snow and that will always win me over.

Re: Should I Buy It?
This sounds horrible but for me to get excited about Assassin's Creed they'd have to tweak the gameplay away from open world nonsense to a more stealth focused badassery campaign. Which they wont.
SO I WILL GO ELSEWHERE. I'll just wait 10 years for the reboot.
