Share Your Artwork

Since September is drawing to a close, I say we give everyone a head start and come up with an Art theme for October. My suggestion is that since October's major 'holiday' is Halloween, how about we recreate, modify or alter a video game character for Halloween?

The deadline shouldn't be until the 31st of October and no submitting FINISHED pieces (so you can show your progress along the way, if you'd like) until at least October 1st. I would also consider carving out a pumpkin with your video game character on it as Halloween-themed.

Let me know what you guys think.

I agree with the pumpkins, because Trip can carve up some beauties!

@kayshire - That sounds great. You know it's funny - I was listening to that music video while watching a Dishonored clip and it was almost seemless. Hahah.

Somebody should do a zombie Tails eating Sonic called Tail Tail Heart. I'm in the middle of my theme otherwise I'd do it.

Speaking of what I'm doing, I'm pretty impressed with Choco's Okami painting because I found out chiberatsu is near impossible to sketch.

Count me in on this. I've got a idea for what I want to do. Gonna have to dig out the drawing pencils and sketch pads, which I haven't done for years.

I've learned from this project that I'm still pretty good at cartooning but I suuuuuuck at anime. I've read a lot (Blade Of The Immortal is my fave) and seen many cartoons and films, but never studied or practiced it. It's all good though. Just means I can appreciate those who can do it that much more.

Anyways, I've finished my prelims and have decided on a final composition. I'm going to scan it and do inks and color in photoshop. I may decide to do more since I'm having so much fun. This is the first time I've really done any video games fan art. I'll start posting my sketchbook work when October hits. Are we gonna use this thread or start a new Halloween thread?

I've finally come up with an idea! I'll hopefully have it done by Monday, so that I can start brainstorming a drawing idea for November.

@Pspiddy - Maybe we should have a "Holiday" thread for various holidays? But with our artwork being Halloween related this (coming) month, I don't see why it would be a problem talking about Halloween in this thread.

I can't wait to see what everyone came up with.

Almost time to start releasing some sketches! I only have 4 or 5, but that'll do leading up to my finished piece. Which I haven't scanned and started working on yet.

I hope Methane_Max logs and posts another flaming pumpkin!

Nice job, Pspiddy! Haven't been around much recently because the school term started on Monday and it's going to be a crazy term! I already have everything I want to do in mind, but I just have to get it onto paper. I might have to settle for a piece that's just pencil on paper for this month... But I have something to hold everybody down for a little while.

Awesome drawings spiddy and lenny! I uh must have not clicked save on the painting I started, I can't find the file now.. It's not a big deal, I didn't get too far into it but still. Maybe I should stick to traditional art :/

I like it but it's not me. It's hard to do Okami or Zelda art styles justice and keep artistic integrity. Even though this is straight from my head and no source material, it doesn't feel like my own. It honestly looks plagiarized.

My whole theme is "video games toons go trick'o'treating". So I originally wanted to do ALL the video games toons. I decided on just two and the toon passing out candy. Which I will post as my final.

And again, mad props to Choco for being able to paint Okami. That is unbelievably difficult. I basically just drew a puppy in cartoon style and put Okami markings on it.

That's straight from your head? That really is impressive. I have a real silly idea in addition to a pumpkin carving I'm going to try if I have the time.

Yeah, I had to look at the cover of Okami (PS2, lost GC version in flood) for the markings but the rest was just me sitting around watching baseball and doodling. It still takes me about an hour to knock out this kind of stuff, but I rarely reference since I find it more satisfying, however difficult, upon completion.

Plus, look at the first pic I posted. See that eraser the x-acto knife is sticking in? That's my best friend.

I finally picked up some pumpkins. Hope to carve one this weekend and then one on Halloween. Maybe a third if I have time. Still working on the design ideas.

I hope at least one other person posts something. I'm working on a couple of things but I doubt both will get finished. Hell, I doubt I'll finish either but I'll still post the sketches. It depends on whether I'm too lazy to bust out my brushes or have the patience to deal with photoshop. Digital art boooores me.

My designs aren't going well so far. I do have a cool Castlevania one I designed a few years ago and never carved, so I might whip that out if my other game ones continue to work the way I want.

Overall this project made me want to get back into traditional art, so I'm happy. But it also made me realize just how difficult storytelling is. Digital is so, so much easier in that complex shapes and colors are only a few clicks away. In the age of instant gratification, traditional art really does require passion.

Cowabunga!? That really is some cool stuff spiddy. Hopefully at least Lenny comes in and posts something. I think this was his idea. I only did a regular Jack-O-Lantern for Halloween (didn't have much time for a more complicated gaming one), but I may still do one tomorrow if I have time since I still have two pumpkins sitting here.
