The power level trick on the boat from Besaid still works. I figured they'd actually fix that. I carried my Vita around for a few hours spamming X while I did housework. When all was said and done and I finished the battle, Tidus, Wakka and Yuna are 19, Lulu is 17 and Khimari is 15. I don't have enough ability spheres to make much progress though. But I do have 20k gil.

Sucks that cutscenes can't be skipped. Getting the Jecht shot will once again take forever if I fuck up constantly like always.

Protip: Mash the X button while doing the Jecht Shot challenge

I spammed X like you said but also rotated the analog stick as fast as possible and got it on my second try. I think my problem was that I always tried to time it like in Parappa.

You gotta mash X and move the stick in the direction you see the words are at. Trying to time it correctly will make you fail.

btw to beat the Goers in the tournament just pass the ball to Tidus/Wakka and shoot like crazy. Also if you haven't used your Jecht shot in the second half do it before 2:00 is up. Tidus is then replace by Wakka who comes in with full HP.

I won with Wakka making the winning goal with 5 seconds left and i felt special. You get a trophy and a Strength sphere for your trouble. (the trophy can be gotten later you just have to win any blitzball game for that one)

Oh, I'm a beast at Blitzball. It's getting the Jecht shot that always messed with me. I'm almost certain it was the timing thing I always tried to do that fucked me.

I still think Blitzball is the best FF minigame. Never understood the hate. Unless it was for getting Wakka's epic weapon. I forget exactly what number, but isn't it an insane amount of wins? I'd rather dodge lightning 4 times over than that friggin timesink.

You just need to win 4 tournaments i believe. Just make sure the winning prize for each tournament is one of Wakka's Overdrives before you actually enter it. Prizes are random. Once Wakka has all his Overdrives the Sigil for his weapon becomes a prize. I think at that point you'll have enough wins to get the weapon itself as well.

I've done it at least once. I know I had Tidus, Wakka, and Brother on my team.

Uggh, whatever it was I probably screwed that up too and made it harder on myself than necessary. Expect many questions, Kay. Even though I know this game well, last time I made a full run through was 10 or so years ago.

One thing that IS vivid is how lost in translation the story can get at times. Sort of surprising as I always thought it was the most westernized of the PS era FFs. Am I alone in thinking that?

I think I'll be buying the strategy guide. There's a bunch of side quests I've never accomplished in this game, and that just seems wrong since this is my 3rd favorite Final Fantasy game.

i have the guide, the OLD guide, but its terrible shape most of the pages have fallen out i have them stapled together by section. My Dragon uest VIII guide is like this too.

Also have the X-2 guide but its in better shape despite surviving a flood. Only the back cover really got wet. Praise be to Yevon

I have a Final Fantasy VII strategy guide that is in some really bad shape. Every now and then I just like looking at it.

Like you I too have the X-2 strategy guide, but I don't know where it's at since moving and I never had the X guide. For both of them it is $15 on Amazon and that's a good deal.

I won the first Blitzball game in a very improbable fashion:

I scored two normal goals with Tidus before missing a Jecht shot a few seconds before Wakka came in. Then, down by 1, I scored with Wakka with a few seconds remaining to send it to overtime. Then scored again with Wakka to win. Fuck it, I'll take it.

I suck at blitzball. The only time I ever managed to win was the very first time back in 2001, and I didn't even know what I was doing. This time I read all the tutorials and just get annihilated. Never got the jecht shot, is that a missable trophy that is gone now?

Pspiddy: if you like Amano artwork, I strongly recommend picking up "The Sky" at some point. I have the slipcase set and I absolutely adore it.

Also, I'm not sure how you feel about people promoting their own work, but I'm a regular on the Nerds Without Pants podcast and we recently did a 3 hour show on FF. If you're interested here's the link.

I don't know if there is a trophy for it but you have only one opportunity to get the Jecht Shot. Rule of thumb, always make a new save slot whenever the game asks if you want to save. (That's shitty of me to say to a fellow FF pro, but I had to. Sorry)

As for Blitzball tips, whenever you have the ball, pass to the back court; That resets the defense. Then have Letty or Jassu (whatever, I'm bad with names) bring the ball up on the extreme left or right wings. Wakka and Tidus should be open near the goal. Break a tackle, pass to them and swim as close to the goal as possible. Shoot and score. (Make sure you set controls to "manual a" and use square [] to call up your action menu.) Hope that helps, mang^^

*An example of the shit I deal with: I loaned Demon's Souls to my best bro, he never touched it. Dark Souls comes out and he starts to tell me all about it. I straight up said, "Fuck you. Shut your face."

You can try get the Jecht Shot again after you get the airship by boarding the same boat again, and yes there is a trophy for it, and it's not missable.

I've never been much of a multiple save guy, I do it a lot in Tales of Symphonia but that's just in case I mess up and don't do a sub event since I'm going for the trophy. Normally I level grind so much it isn't a concern. Before trophies I was only ever really concerned with beating the games and not really side events or missable items. Now because of trophies, I'm pretty much concerned about them. Trophies, you consume my life but offer me nothing except digital glory.

Will you guys enlighten me as to why Blitzball is so hated? I still cant figure it out. I love it almost as much as I love Sam Cooke; Classic. Tech Copy still throws me for a loop though. I mash buttons when I see it, but fuck beans if I know who/how or if learned it. Some help, Kay?

I think because for a brief moment in the game it is a forced mini game. Much like snow boarding in Final Fantasy VII and the very short period I have to play cards in IX.

Bret, you're, like, my favorite poster here and from 1up. Please don't ruin that by talking shit about IX. Granted, the card game is flawed, but at least it is held in shady ass places unlike the other FFs mentioned.

I don't hate the cards, I'm just not very good at it. I always want to win, and I always suck at those kinds of mini games. Nothing is worse than snowboarding though, because really it's just 2 minutes of me hitting everything I can possibly hit.

Am I wrong in thinking that VII, VIII, IX, and X were the only games that had mini games? I can't really recall any from the other games.
