Re: The Last of Us Discussion
I got it today too. Pretty good so far. I LOVE Ellie
I have to use listen mode since I'm OCD about ammo, and supplies in these games. If I use more items than i think i absolutely have to I HAVE to restart or I feel bad. It doesn't help that I'm playing on hard either LOL.

Re: The Last of Us Discussion
Yeah, that'll happen, bret... I know that stealth would be completely intolerable if the friendly AI could give you away, but it's really weird when you see stuff like that happen
I changed my mind about listen mode because clicker encounters were getting pretty repetitive without it. Get spotted, kill everything, waste ammo, and so on.

I think it really just made me mad because not even stealth games on PS1 were that bad. Â She literally ran right past him and he just kept on his route. Â I've been enjoying the game other than that one part that really soured my mood.

Re: The Last of Us Discussion
I started up Survivor mode. It feels like drawers and cabinets are just there to taunt me. There's like never anything in them... haha.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
I tried the multiplayer. I was terrible in the first two matches (like 3 kills total... haha). I got 8 kills in the third one. That is the one I made a custom loadout for which I think helped a lot. It's kind of interesting, but I'm just not used to playing a mode like this. I barely crafted anything because... I don't know I'm not used to stopping and doing stuff like that. I'm not a big fan of radar or the listen mode in general, but they have big restrictions so they aren't really all that bad. I'll try it some more. It didn't light my world on fire though.
I think what I liked so much about Uncharted 2 multiplayer when it was at its best is that it promoted movement. Keeping everyone moving made things so much livelier to me.

Re: The Last of Us Discussion
I feel bad when my Survivors get sick or hungry in multiplayer... even though they are just little dots.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
I just beat it today... Easily the best game of the generation for me.Â
- Spoiler:
- The ending was perfect. I was certain that it would end with Ellie dying from the operation or something. I never saw this coming

Re: The Last of Us Discussion
YEAH! Best game this gen! Ajapam knows what's up. Also:
- Spoiler:
- I mentioned it earlier, but I figured one of the two characters would die. I loved that the ending went in a different direction while still fitting the game and world it's set in. Worked perfectly.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
Also we really need to get four of us with mics actually talking strategy, calling out enemy positions and stuff and playing the multi. Seems like it'd be super fucking cool that way.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
Multiplayer would probably be a lot more fun that way.
Also, can we all agree that the soundtrack is amazing?

Anyone want to do a game night sometime this weekend? I'm free I think every night. Maybe we can even do a Sunday thing like the Uncharted days.

Re: The Last of Us Discussion
Finished it tonight, definitely Naughty Dog's best game in terms of well everything. Not really a huge fan of them outside of Jak and Daxter, and Uncharted 2, but this game was fucking amazing. Vague Spoilers:
- Spoiler:
- Winter was my favorite part, and I feel I don't have to explain why you'll know if you played it. The parts in the blizzard reminded me of Silent Hill which was cool too. Actually this game reminded me a lot of Silent Hill in other ways too mostly its story.Beating it on hard was pretty satisfying too cause goddammit this game is a bitch towards the end. Those soldiers in the final area jesus fuck some of them dont want to fucking die.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
Here is a good post-mortem interview with Bruce and Neil over on Edge. Lots of spoilers though so wait until you have beat the game to read the interview.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
http://www.edge-online.com/features/sexism-sells-the-last-of-us-begs-to-differ/ a good article on the portrayal of women in TLOU also from Edge. This has spoilers too so finishing the game is recommended as well.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
Another good article. Good find Kay!
I finished Survivor up tonight. It wasn't too bad except for a couple of spots that I had to play a bunch of times.

Re: The Last of Us Discussion
Game of the year, easily. The gameplay was fantastic in so many different ways, it absolutely nailed the survival aspect so you really feel like you need to be careful and preserve your supplies as much as possible. For the most part it made every battle, even with just two or three enemies, feel incredibly tense and made it feel like you only survived because you actually out-done them unlike most games where you just don't really care. The Clicker sections were actually quite terrifying too. Just the sound of them was extremely unnerving and having to sneak around, knowing if they spotted you you was most likely going to die, was a nice change to have in a big budget game.
The thing that took me most off guard was just how good the writing was. I was expecting slightly above average video game tier writing, but it was genuinely 10/10. Not only were the main characters done really well but even those they meet on their way are so well handled that you can easily grow quite attached to them early on too. There so many little moments and lines in it that just had such a punch of emotion to them. The ending was simply perfect.
The only thing that bugged me was the teammate AI, but really it was a lesser of 2 evils I suppose so I cannot complain too much, was fairly immersion breaking at times though which was a pain since it happened a fair bit. Oh, and the whole sound element around the Clickers felt really inconsistent, like there's one bit where you go past a TON then Ellie knocks a big ol' crate down next to you while talking normally and they don't react at all which was another pain considering that too happened more than I'd have liked.
The environments were fantastic. The music was glorious. The game was easily worth all the SHIT we've had to wade the zombie craze created. 5/5 considering putting in my top 10.
I hate this shit. I fucking hate this whole 'wahhh sexism in video games' bollocks that's popped up so much lately, it's so fucking retarded in a million different ways. This shouldn't even be a bloody article. The game is well written - End of.
Well, it's actually extremely sexist. I mean you spend the entire game killing men in insanely brutal ways. Don't think they'd get away with the opposite without a million angry feminist bloggers and so progressive white knights complaining. Can I have $160,000 to fund Tropes vs Men in Video Games now please?

Only if we can also agree that the MP is fucking perfect compared to most games in how it feels like it's actually part of the single player world. Seriously, this is one of the best MPs I've played in a long while.
This game, it just gets better and better. Naughty Dog are now one of my favourite developers for sure.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
I played the MP for a few hours last night. Now that I've spent more time with it, it's not bad at all. I almost had my own little Home Alone re-enactment to win a match until somebody hit me with a molotov

Re: The Last of Us Discussion
I feel really bad about this, but The Last of Us has wandered over the Pile of Shame. I'm not supposed to say this, but I find the general difficulty curve to be a little much at times. It's not quite the "fun" I like from a game.
It sucks, because I like the characters, the game looks amazing, and the story is incredible...but when I get stuck in some of these fights, it's just astoundingly frustrating. I got to that part in the basement of the hotel, cranked up the generator, and about 23 tries later said "fuck it", and instead grinded a few trophies away in Deadpool.
Don't worry, I hate me too.

Re: The Last of Us Discussion
This might help you out, but I got my ass handed to me upon turning on the generator. Next time, I knew that generator would just trigger trouble, so I went and found the exit door and memorized the path to get to it. Turned on the generator, and then balls to the walls sprinted to get to the door. From what I remember, I don't recall getting hit once! If anyone gets in your way, shiv that shit!

Re: The Last of Us Discussion
If you havent tried already get the Keycard before you turn on the generator. Then haul ass to the door after you turn it on.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
Yeah that part isn't so bad if you've got the key card already and know where to run to. But I kind of feel the same way about it not being my type of fun. I'd like to finish it but I end up playing SMTIV instead... or start new games of FFVIII. I'm terrible :\

This is what I did on Suvivor.
A lot of fights can actually be partially snuck by and then just ran by. You could always just turn the difficulty down too Bannen. We won't judge you.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
I'd like to play the game on survivor, but it just seems like it will be the most stressful thing ever. I don't like to shoot, and I'm sure on survivor bullets are even more scarce.

Re: The Last of Us Discussion
The DLC is being teased. Outbreak day in the game's story was September 26th 2013 I guess. Looks like they will be revealing the DLC then. So excited for this! I'm assuming its the singleplayer DLC. I guess it could just be multiplayer stuff though. We will see.
Re: The Last of Us Discussion
Hope it's something good. Right now only Bioware and Bethesda give me DLC where I know for certain it's worth my money and the first one can still be a bit shaky. I'd love for Naughty Dog to join those two.
