Anyone see the trailer for Mad Max? It looks one of those movies that mixes goofiness with awesomeness to make something you just need to watch even if the script sucks. With this and the game coming soon I'll have to actually watch the originals

I'm a huge fan of The Road Warrior and I desperately want to see Fury Road.
The original trilogy is a lot of fun. The first is rough around the edges (and a bit slow in the middle) but still entertaining. The Road Warrior is perfection on every level. Beyond Thunderdome had a problematic 2nd act and goes in wilder, crazier directions than its predecessors but still worth a watch.

I didn't dig Under the Skin but you seem like someone I'd really want to discuss it with. That said, I agree with you on that opening sequence, it's excellent. And yeah, it's ballsy as hell to show a film with a nude Scarlet Johanson that doesn't make her look perfect. She has folds and looks...well, real.

Exactly. It's an unglamorous role (and look) for her and that's why I suspect Johansson agreed to the nudity; she knew she wouldn't be exploited. I'm sure people could see screen caps of those scenes out of context and get off on them but in context? It isn't happening.

I haven't seen Catwoman but everything else you listed has some redeeming quality. And with Man of Steel, At least I just didn't like it. Meaning it wasn't a bad movie, just not my taste. (Superman IV is great for the comedic clusterfuck it is) I understand where you're coming from, but I do feel this movie insulted me. Which I can't say for many movies.

Superman IV was insulting then and it still hurts.

I'll grant you that IV straddles the line of bad and so bad it's good. Batman and Robin too.

Winter Soldier is a pretty solid action flick. The plot, visuals, acting and action were top notch. What holds it back is the attempts at drama and humor.

It's a 90 minute movie that runs two-hours. There were so many scenes where nothing was happening and there was an actual Apple commercial forced in there. LOTS of commercial fodder. And the jokes were trying to be Whedon-esque and fail miserably. Which sucks because these three things almost ruin a pretty badass movie. Well, there is one other thing...

I thought Man of Steel was bad. I didn't hate it as much as you guys. But I saw it in theaters and haven't really thought twice about it since. But I also hate Russell Crowe. And that movie had way too much Russell Crowe.

I don't remember being bugged by the ending of Winter Soldier...I also don't remember it.

Do you consider it weird then that I kind of liked the apple-store scene? Yeah, it was clearly product placement but I thought it was le-funny. Since Cap'n America is good in those fish out of water scenes.

Yeah, I agree with you on that Apple scene. Seeing Caps adjust to the 21st century is my favorite part of his character. Hell, I would watch a MST3K type movie that's just Caps making commentary on historical documentaries.

The best way to describe Guardians of the Galaxy is if The Avengers was made by and for drunk Star Wars fans. I'd like to think you all know me well enough to know what I think that means quality wise

I agree. Guardians of the Galaxy was amazing. It's probably my favorite Marvel movie. I loved every second of it. Plus the cast is incredible. Each character had so much personality. Chris Pratt was perfect in his role. Bradley Cooper's voice work was great. Groot was hilarious. Zoe Saldana was good... she played a good badass. My biggest surprise was how good big Dave Bautista was. He's a pretty damn good actor. I would have never guessed a character named Drax the Destroyer would have some of the funniest lines in the movie. Just a great movie. Go see it!

I was surprised how Bautista wasn't just funny, but how great a job he did whenever he'd bring up his family. He did a great job of selling that he was pissed off with nothing to live for except revenge. Seriously, give the dude his own Taken.

I am pretty sure Guardians of the Galaxy is my favorite movie this summer. The cast really was perfect, the characters were all so ridiculously likable. I was also surprised at how hilarious Drax was at times. And Groot was so cute. I loved everyone. Such an awesome movie. Everyone needs to see it.

Yeah so...Godzilla had a lot wrong with it. The epitome of the problem for me for me can be boiled down to one scene:

Also the main actor looked like me to the point where it was distracting. Seriously, he's joined the list of 3 or 4 doppelgangers who roam the streets and don't ever get confused for me because I'm not famous.

Finally bought my blu-ray copy of The Raid 2 last night and watched it again. Still awesome. Still the best action film of the year.

Speaking of which, it came with a download code for the Ultraviolet version. I never use these things. Does anyone want this code?

Watched 21 Jump Street and Silver Linings Playbook. Both were better than I would have expected. Pretty soon I'll be watching Mamma Mia or something...

21 Jump Street is hilarious. 22 Jump Street was equally great. It was just ripping on crappy sequels non stop in a totally hilarious and great way. Silver Linings Playbook is just a solid movie with some great acting. That'll be one I'll always stop and watch if its on TV.

Watched Rocky for the first time in years and you know...not as good as I remember. What it does well, it does very well, but I feel like there have been better human sports stories since then.

I watched 21 Jump Street. It was pretty funny albeit obvious. Started fast and kind of slowed around the midpoint. It surprised me because I don't usually go in for these types of movies. Although I do have a pretty big problem with the borderline pedophilia stuff.

That's a HUGE "most likely", avid. That's a very thin line to walk. I mean, approaching the subject matter in a film like this is uncomfortable to say the least. Well, for me it is anyway. Still a funny movie and I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
