Just to be clear, as a consumer I don't hold a grudge against any particular business. They supply a product and I judge whether or not I want to participate in it. And what MS has shown me -twice with the 360- is that I don't want to give them money. I held off on the PS3 until it hit $200 so my bias is towards my own monies.

They just need a better game plan. As everyone here has pointed out, MS is not fulfilling any need that can't be satiated elsewhere or with better results.

Everything Halo free for Live would go a long way with, I think, every gamer on the planet. I'd consider jumping even if they said it was only with the launch edition of the new price point. But that would cut into the imaginary dollars they project to investors. Business economics is awesome that way.

I can agree with that. Hell, I was as anti-Playstation as you could get back in the day, but once Sony pulled their heads out of their asses and I got the cash, I was ready to give the PS3 a shot

My own experience with the 360 wasn't good, and I took the leap of faith despite not liking Microsoft's products in general and the bad press the 360 was getting on its own with the RRoD. The PS3 was a bad value proposition at the time between the price and the lack of games I cared about. In the end, my 360 had probably the shortest lifespan of any console as my primary gaming device. The PS3 got its act together in 2009, but I didn't jump on it until it got some price cuts and a game (Valkyria Chronicles) that appealed to me. It just happens that Sony was able to keep a stream of varied and unique titles. And at that, my PS3 was a used 60-gigger fatty model. It's served me well.

Right now, why would I buy a Xbone? The PS4 has most of what it has plus a few games it doesn't have and is likely to have a lot of games the Xbone will never see. And for the most part, it will play them better than the One. Cutting the price down to the same as a PS4 and dropping Kinect 2 won't sway me. Halo won't sway me.

I'd say FFX because they can't use the budget or the translation as an excuse at that point in that serie's cycle.

To be fair as I recall RE games (at least back then) were originally recorded in English so translation really isnt an excuse there either.

After double checking on it apparently they did have japanese voices but uh they werent used in either version.

Wow Kay that's really terrible. The dialogue wouldn't have been saved by good voice acting either honestly, at least this way it's somewhat... uh... unique. What game is that anyway?

Also, if their muscles aren't working, how are they talking so damn much?

Anyway, I vote RE. I think FF X has moments where the voice acting goes from mediocre to pretty darn good, while RE is just kinda horrible all round.

The more I read about net neutrality and the crap being brought to congress by old white guys that should just go away, the more I want to kick someone in the nuts. It's like these people won't be happy until they have all of the money.

Next thing you know the DLC model will change depending on your ip service.

Procedurals are so commonplace on the indie scene. Why don't I have a Toejam and Earl remake with Bastion graphics? That game is the best at procedural roguelike and multiplayer. I guess I should create my own for mobile called Jockitch and Dale. Bleh.

I miss the demo discs of the OPM days. The only thing close to it seems to be the Steam greenlit thing. Unless you guys can educate me differently, that is a huge oversight in modern console gaming. (Yes, more money has complicated it. No, I don't care. Resources blah blah blah)

I miss everything about 1up. It was a fantastic magazine. I enjoyed it more than EGM because they didn't cover every platform, so their previews/reviews always seemed a bit longer. I'm friends with a lot of the guys on Twitter, but none of them really do any video game journalism anymore.

I'm pretty sure I just had someone ragequit on me while doing the mobile app thing with Watch Dogs. I really like this app and am glad Ubi is doing shit with it the way I hoped for in las e3's promises of second screen stuff. Black Flag's app was OK but this shit is fuuuuun.

I also think Ham should do a video of ragequitters to a remixed version of "Here Comes the Gravediggaz" retitled "Here Comes the Ragequitters". That would be golden. Pray for your mommy!

The argument in the e3 thread about cross gen, and my bitching about ai in the Watch dogs thread, has me thinking; Are games better off with sophisticated technology?

With SMB I could work with or around the code to determine difficulty. With modern games my input is all but obsolete.

I'm not sure where I stand on the cross gen or modern gaming thing, but I know that narrative is good and gameplay is good. Just like forced narrative is bad and forced gameplay is bad.

I dunno. There's a well written blog in those thoughts somewhere. Sure as shit I won't find it unless I finally go to Applebee's.

Talent's more important than anything else, but if someone truly talented is making a game then usually better tech will lead to a better game. Seeing a dev get worse across a gen is because they lost staff or had a worse idea, not anything related to the tech itself.

What I mean is the advancement of technology in a way that our input on a controller is no more or less like Mildred in Fahrenheit 451 reading her script at a predetermined episode of a tv program.

Nevermind. I'm not trying to be confrontational. I am merely trying to point out, what I think is, the industry getting bloated and abnormal. Example is the quick turn around of Kojima thinking he could charge $60 for a demo.

Speaking of, I bought it for $20 and it should be here tomorrow. I won't start it until I finish Dishonored.

Eh, I think like film most big budget things that look the prettiest (in terms of money being pumped into it) are mostly shit and soulless. But there are still films on occasion that have both the budget and the brains...and so it is with video games. The tech's just become too prohibitively expensive I think for the talent to keep up for the most part.

I guess I've always not been surprised by video games turning into a similar model to other industries. That said, I think video games have a THRIVING indie-community still, and that is worth celebrating while it lasts.
