Rayman Legends Discussion
Hey guys I thought I'd make this thread so we could discuss this game. I tried to score a midnight copy but no dice. I have off tomorrow, so hoping to get it early in the morning and dig in. Greenman seems to think this game is the second coming, so now we all play it and decide if he lied to us. Also anyone getting it on PS3? I'd love to have some friends to compete with in the challenges.
Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
Well it is pretty damn awesome. Hope you all like it, but I can see myself being in a Crash Bandicoot Warped scenario where I like it way more than everyone else (really me seeing its true brilliance).

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
Wow... I love it even more than I thought I would so far. I thought based on impressions the Murfy levels might be a bummer since most people said they'd be better with touch, but I like them here too. Like I have to wall kick off a platform back to a wall, then hit circle then wall kick again to jump back against the now higher moved platform. Adds a little extra to normal platforming and doing both gets a little hectic. Nice change of pace. Maybe they aren't as good as the touch versions I can't say, but they haven't been a negative so far at all. Maybe they might be overwhelming to do both later on though, but so far they've been fun.
And then the regular levels have been excellent. I missed so much stuff during the Quick Sand level which was amazing. I can't wait to try that again. Lots of variety in levels so far. I haven't gotten to invasion or Origin remakes either. Just played the first world.
Also I probably mentioned this when her trailer released, but I love Barbera's design. I was looking at the trophies and it seems there might be more princesses which is cool. I hope they have awesome designs too.

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
So far the other princesses I've found aren't much more than re-coloured versions of Barbara.
Murfy levels are pretty entertaining so far but the time sensitive ones can get a bit frustrating. Though I'm still loving the game. It seems like there's a ton of stuff to do

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
After finishing world 2 I skipped ahead and unlocked a princess from a bit further out and she is a bit different. She's a (spoiler if you don't want to know the look of her character)
How do the PC Murfy levels work ajapam? Do you use the mouse?
- Spoiler:
- spy.

You just push a button and he moves things. Isn't that the same as on consoles? I'm using an xbox controller. Moving platforms are set to Y and the left and right bumpers are used for wheels. Maybe it's different when using keyboard/mouse, but I imagine they expected people to use controllers for this game

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
Well the Wii U and Vita versions just have you control Murfy with the touch screen. You don't control Rayman from what I have gathered in those levels (Greenman can explain this better probably). That seems really passive to me and I think I'd prefer the way it works with a controller on PS3/PC, but it is hard to say without really putting time into both. I've heard Wii U players say the way it works on there is the way to go. But I don't know anyone whose really played both.
I played more tonight. This game is just so good.

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
No, you don't. It's more like Yoshi Touch and Go or Kirby Canvas Curse. You're just guiding Globox through a levels avoiding hazards. Honestly, I wish we could have both ways to play it. There's really no excuse with the Vita crossplay and Wii U gamepad. Wonder if playing with a Classic Controller would change things. Gonna do that right now.

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
Yeah having both especially for Wii U seems like a no brainer. I hadn't thought about cross-controller with the Vita.
Also tried some daily/weekly challenges. Fun stuff. Will be keeping an eye on these for sure.

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
They don't support Gamepadless. Disappointing. Yet the only thing really wrong with this game so far. I hope Legends eventually goes on sale really cheap or is free on Plus I'd like to see how it's different there.

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
I "beat" it tonight, but only have like 400-some teensies. Have a lot of work to do still. It wasn't quite as challenging as Origins. Checkpoints are a little too often in this game. Levels were a little easier to get all the lums and teensies in one go too plus no time trials. I kind of missed that feeling of really mastering a level like in Origins, but with the daily/weekly challenges and Invaded levels I can't complain much. My only other gripe is that The Living Dead Party is kind of meh. I was kind of hoping for the next Land of the Livid Dead or whatever, but this is not that.
Otherwise, I loved it. And it is so much fun it is hard to hold either of those gripes against it. Everything is just excellent. The platforming still feels great (the way attacking works in the air is a small change that has a big effect) and there are some truly excellent levels here. A wide variety of different types too, from chases to slower paced levels to the music ones to the new air-shooter types to bosses. I love the world themes. The spy and Mythology ones were probably my faves. The music in the medieval level was pretty awesome as was the spy themes. As I mentioned eariler I liked the new princess designs so unlocking them was fun. Ursula, Olympia and Barbara were my favorites. The Invaded levels are really addictive. I went to stop playing earlier and kept playing "one" more. Then an hour and a half later I'm still playing. Awesome game.

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
Has anyone else tried the Living Dead Party World yet?
- Living Dead Spoilers:
- They are 8-bit music levels plus one extra regular music level. I could totally get behind the idea of 8-bit versions of the music levels. Plus while I was playing the music levels I was wishing there were no checkpoints which is what these are. But these distortions they do in these levels are pretty lame. I know the idea is that you should be able to play them on sound alone, but they just end up distracting the shit out of me. I finished them, but eh.

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
I guess I "beat" this yesterday (I got to the credits but I haven't started up the final world yet.) The last level was pretty awesome. All around it was just a great game. I agree with Trip that it was a lot easier to get all the teensies in one go, but I think all of the extra stuff like the invaded levels should balance that out.
Probably my favorite of the generation as far as pure 2D platforming goes, though I don't think I was as blown away as you guys. I can see myself replaying it some day and enjoying it even more than I did this time.

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
I have 8 total teensies left to get in the Legends levels. Some just involve going back through levels I only played once which should be easy. 2 are from a couple of the Dark Rayman Invaded levels. Those are tough. I'm not even sure where I shave time, but I will have to keep at it.
Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
I got all the teensies in the Legends levels. I just have to go through the Origins levels now. I did finish the first of those worlds as well. I want to go for the platinum, but a couple of the trophies are a bit of a grind.
Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
Been playing it for a bit and I am loving to so far. Me and my girlfriend have been taking turns swapping off.
I definitely see it being like Crash Bandicoot in that clearing everything wont stop me from starting a new file after a while and doing it again, it's just loads of fun. I think my plan is i'll probably wait for it to get <$20 on steam and hit it and Rayman Origins up and marathon them both at some point since I rarely am around the PS3 anymore.
But yeah, teh platforming feels as solid as it did in Origins, the Murphy levels can be a bit annoying when timed like you guys said (wish they'd found a way to map his button to oen of the shoulders so you didn't have to move between O and X with your thumb) and the music/sound design is once again AMAZING!

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
I need to do the Water world in the Origins remakes and I will have all 700 teensies! Getting close. I must say going back to these Origins remakes, I now recall that the food-themed one (more specifically the ice-levels) really weren't my cup of tea. On the other hand, the final world is as great as I remember. The difficulty seen there is definitely missed in the main levels of Legends. Wall/ceiling running is these games is so cool.
Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
I haven't done the Origins levels yet but are they just straight up remakes? Seems a bit cheap if so...

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
I played the Legends demo at GameStop the other day. I haven't played Origins or anything, so it really caught me off guard. How awesome! The platforming is pretty amazing - but the animation is what really blew my mind...

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
I guess it is, but I didn't really feel like Legends was lacking for new content, so it doesn't really bother me.Krubixcube wrote:I haven't done the Origins levels yet but are they just straight up remakes? Seems a bit cheap if so...
Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
I didn't really see it as cheap. Like Trip said, they added a bunch of new levels and I would have been fine with just the new stuff. Cheap is when they substitute new content, not compliment it.

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
What do you guys like better: music levels from Legends or tricky treasure levels from Origins?
Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
I like the music levels more but it's really close. Treasure ones were my favorites in Origins but I was done when I finished them while I'm still replaying Legends' music levels. I do miss the treasure chase song though

Re: Rayman Legends Discussion
Tricky Treasures are tougher. Music ones are really cool/interesting in concept. I'm a little torn myself, but leaning towards tricky treasures. I don't think either are the games' best levels. There are a few runner-type levels in Legends that top them at their own game I think personally (Quicksand and one of the rescue stages come to mind). But also a few of the regular levels where they have more freedom with the level design would also be up top for me.
