Re: Workout Thread
Forgot to post this earlier, but ran ten miles last week. Couldn't move the rest of the day, but damn it felt good to hit that mark.

Re: Workout Thread
Wow nice one! I really wish i could will my body to run distance.
My legs have been protesting some injuries since I had my fight but I haven't taken time off so I'm finally listening and taking about a week off to let my bruised bones/muscles recover a little.
PS I wish one of you guys was a sports doctor. So many questions I have and despite Japan being very healthy they are far from an athletic people so it's hard to get ANY useful information from doctors in relation to sports injuries.

Re: Workout Thread
Went up from 15 to 20 kilo weights for cleans today. Roughly 133 pounds total counting the bar, so I'm getting well and ready for police academy.

I'm going to be honest with you...I have almost no idea what that means. But I did follow you until the "weights" part.

Beastly. I imagine you could snap me in half like a twig.
I'm just trying to find a muay thai gym now that I"m back. I tried one that was very...fitness-y. Tomorrow's seems like they're there more to train/a lot more flexible schedule. I doubt I'll be able to afford it but we'll see!

Re: Workout Thread
My new job's making it harder to find time to lift and when I do, I usually keep it down to cleans, bench press, and pull ups. May throw snatch into that rotation on my days off.

Re: Workout Thread
I managed to get what I can only describe as...friction blisters on my pinkies. NO idea why. Using the same gloves, same wraps as I did in Japan. But I can't punch hard and it's SO frustrating because i have two tiny little spots on my PINKIES that are preventing me from working out properly. So dumb.

Re: Workout Thread
Started up a new program for the summer. Similar to my last one which worked out really well. A three day a week full body split. Same base exercises, but swapped out most of the others. And I am trying to work in some exercises I never really do. Over the years I started cutting out stuff I didn't like, so trying to be more well-rounded with that stuff in now. So in my last program I did DB Rows. This time I am doing Reverse Rows and doing Decline Press with DBs. Worst part about decline is trying to hook into the bench with the dumbbells in hand. I also may start adding weight via a belt for Pull-Ups as I'm finally doing them with ease again after hurting my back last year.
Re: Workout Thread
My first goal upon joining the new gym was to get my strength and size back to a good level which I did pretty well. I started cutting weight back in July and am now down about 15 pounds (went from 207 to 192). I am hoping to get down to about 10% bodyfat again. Looking much leaner now, but need to lose a little more. I ordered some calipers so I can try and track my bodyfat at home. I definitely started to feel the weight loss this month in the lifting side of things though. It was sort of inevitable after the weight loss, but still makes workouts a bit frustrating at the same time.
Re: Workout Thread
My gym has this really great unilateral plate-loaded lat pulldown machine. I had never used it before, but tried it out and I love it. I have been doing reverse pulldowns on it with elbows tight to my body. You really feel the squeeze in your lats. Probably my new favorite machine exercise. That and weighted pull-ups have made back days my favorite day recently.
Re: Workout Thread
It's amazing how much muscle mass I've lost in just two weeks because of this foot surgery. I'm a pretty lanky, fighter-build guy anyway so I was hovering around 150 or mid-150's but I've already dropped to 145. Gonna lift or do SOMETHING today now that my stitches are out. I'm going crazy over here @_@

Re: Workout Thread
Didn't realize you had foot surgery. Sorry to hear that. Your workouts are usually like kickboxing and stuff like that? I suppose you are a ways away from being able to do that again?
My big goal for Christmas was to get under 185. I weighed in at 184.4 on Monday. Going to take it easy on the diet around the holidays to give myself a break. Just try and maintain my weight for a week or two, but if I go back up a a couple pounds that will be okay. Then try and shed this last bit of fat after that.

Re: Workout Thread
Better to maintain over the holidays than gain. I don't have much of a chance.
Thanks for the well-wishing - looks like I can start to go light at about the 5-6 week mark. We'll see though, I'm healing pretty quick.

Re: Workout Thread
How have your guys' workouts been going? I assume you are well back at it at this point Twolf?
After repeated trouble with my back, I decided to just remove the powerlifts. It has been super weird as they have generally been at the core of my workouts forever. Anyway, I think I finally feel pretty good about the workouts I developed without them. Still feels lame to do a leg day without squats, but I'm dealing with it. Kind of miss going for the big weights. I have taken to trying to improve other "lesser" lifts. Like the weighted pull-ups and the overhead press. Had to add some more ab work back in since I'm not getting that same core work through the power movements. Trying to improve my flexibility too.

Re: Workout Thread
I like to constantly try new workout splits. My latest had a group of four compound lifts (one for chest, back, legs and shoulders each day) I would do every other workout (so basically an A and B day). But then a trio of accessory exercises I'd add in as well that I'd rotate between every three workouts. And I'd workout Mon/Wed/Fri. Basically made it made it so for two weeks I wouldn't do exactly the same workout. But doing a chest press and shoulder press on both A and B was hitting the shoulders a bit too much, so I'm going to swap the seated press for some lateral raises. I was really just trying to improve my overhead press by doing more OH work, but I'm still doing OHP 3 times every two weeks instead of just twice at least. Will probably move back to a body part split before long to change it up once again.
Re: Workout Thread
Man...I wish I understood the weight lingo. Seems pretty hardcore though. I love my Muay Thai gym now but wish they did more strength stuff, I need a mix of weights and training. Maybe I'll ask you to make me a little circuit

Re: Workout Thread
I've been recovering from a wrist injury so I've been going light and replacing bench with a machine press and power cleans with squats. They do okay, but I miss going hard at it. Maybe it'll recover back to normal this fall, if so I'm not going to push myself too hard. Went up in weight way too quick.

Re: Workout Thread
Started running again. It has been absolutely perfect weather. I was ridiculously out of shape... the first couple runs I struggled getting past a mile, but now I can comfortably do 3-3.5 with pretty decent pace. Not sure if I'm training for anything... just tired of being out of shape!

Re: Workout Thread
I see people running, I see fighters running and god damn if every time I try running I don't think back on the thing that all runners say "Just get past that first ____ time and you'll love". I NEVER get past whatever magical number of runs it is to start enjoying it.
Props to you man, for getting over the hump. I am incapable.

Re: Workout Thread
Yeah I'm envious of people who can find enjoyment in running. I have never gotten there either.
My on again, off again relationship with cardio is back on. Doing 15 minutes of HIIT on the elliptical a few times a week. I'm moving my lifting workouts to five times a week, so I guess I'm going to do the cardio four times a week for now (take off from it on Legs day probably). Going to stick with this routine through August.

Anyone else ever do something at home with the TV on? I can't watch anything while lifting, but I love doing medicine ball workouts with Dragonball/DBZ/DBS on. Hopefully can get a home gym some day.
