What have you been listening to?

I ended up listening to that Haim album more recently that you suggested Twolf and I do enjoy it. It definitely lines up with stuff I listen to so was a good suggestion. Also I'm trying to catch up with more 2013 albums for year-end list discussions!

I had been listening to it and not really paying attention to track names (you know while I'm busy doing gym workouts, chopping up firewood, grooming my mustache, real manly stuff). Anywho, gave it a listen tonight while paying attention and I'll say "Forever," "Don't Save Me," and "My Song 5."

Jack White's up to no good again. If you're a fan of Alison Mosshart from The Kills you should dabble into The Dead Weather, Jack and Alison are a great musical pair.

I was just about to tell Trip about Haim... You stole my thunder, Twolf! Some of their songs feel a bit to 80s-ish for me, though.

Anyway I guess I've been gone for a while but I've been scouring through some year-end lists to find more music. I've mostly been listening to Chance the Rapper and Russian Circles. I've been in a metal mood recently for some reason, so I'm really enjoying the latter.

Recently, I've listened to the soundtracks to Wolf of Wall Street and The World's End. Spotify doesn't carry those particular titles but some users have made playlists with the songs from both films.

Still catching up with some '13 albums, mostly in the metal genre. The recent Carcass album is still impressive.

Is anybody looking forward to anything in particular this year?

I just read that Caribou and Mastadon might be releasing new albums this year so I'm pretty excited about that. Mastadon is my favorite metal band

Daniel Johns of Silverchair will be releasing his solo album, and since I haven't got an album from him since 2007, I'm very excited about this. After that I am next looking forward to Jack White's new solo album. Two of my favorite living artist putting out music is never a bad thing.

I'm not really sure what's coming this year. I'm not great on keeping track of new releases. Imogen Heap's album is the only one that comes to mind.

- I'm a big fan of Beck's Sea Change album so his upcoming album (Morning Phase, which is said to be a spiritual successor) sounds great.
- Johnny Cash has an unreleased album coming out. This was recorded in the early 80s but hasn't seen the light of day until now.
- Drive-By Truckers

- Foo Fighters
- Mastodon
- U2. I hope this is a better turnout than the previous album.

- The spin-off Archer album that has country songs sung by Cherylene

I don't think anyone here is into electronic type music but, just in case, I started listening to Kavinsky's 2013 album and it's pretty great. Reminds me a lot of JUSTICE

I'm watching the Grammys because there are a few performances I actually want to see this year. One of them was Pink and that one dude from one of my wife's favorite bands. Well holy shit if I wasn't disappointed. Pink put on something that I've never seen performed by a single singer. It was crazy. And the duet killed it too. If anyone here didn't see it, you probably should look for it. It was fucking awesome. And this is coming from a guy who has seen Funkadelic bring down the mothership live.

*edit* The second performance I was looking forward to rocked HARD. Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons brought it. I was expecting that one though. Now I'm just waiting for Willie, Merle, and Kris Kristofferson. I hope they do Bobby McGee, but I'll be happy with whatever because they are all badasses and outlaw country always kicks ass.

*edit* And the outlaws kicked ass. The juxtaposition of Highwayman and Okie From Muskogee was great. Merle couldn't read the prompter and missed his verse on Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys, but that's alright. Imagine Dragons were cool because they were in the front row singing along. I have more respect for them now.

I liked a lot of the performances. I didn't pay attention to the awards so maybe that's why I liked it so much.

I watched Milan come back from being down a goal and scoring 2 goals in the last 5 minutes to win. Much better choice than the grammy's.

Dang, I wished I could've watched the Grammy's. One of the only times left when not having cable sucks.

If the Grammy performances are on the interwebs somewhere, I highly recommend watching them all. Almost everyone that I saw killed it. NIN, Queens of the Stone Age, and the dude from Fleetwood Mac were a stellar closing act. Hell, even bands and singers I don't like were awesome. Chicago was lame, which sucked, but that's about it.

Don't mind people like Bret; he's pissed that he turned 30 and now his balls hit the toilet water when he takes a shit. Old people >.>

I thought the NIN/QOTSA closer got cut out of the broadcast. Trent Reznor made a big fuss of it.

I'm biased because I like Daft Punk but a lot of the actual awards didn't seem too bad this time around, either. Except for a 7 year old Led Zeppelin live recording winning best rock album for some reason.

They played sponsor shout outs during the NIN/Queens thing and then cut them off at the very, very end of it. It was highly annoying, but you got to see a big chunk of the performance. It's not as disrespectful as Trent said. It's the fucking Grammys closing act, Trent. What the fuck do you expect?

For the first time in a probably forever I heard decent music on the radio yesterday. Looked the band up and it turns out the whole album is great.

That's actually pretty good. My expectations with new music has become jaded with age, so when I hear something new that has talent I'm pleasantly surprised.

Youtube has gotten pretty ridiculous to the point that now people are chopping shit to avoid bots. It's kind of brilliant. You basically throw a song into Sound Forge -or whatever sound editing program you use- and cut out fractions of a second in random intervals.

Bret will probably disown me but I have to say it; After listening to both Bleach and In Utero in entirety for the first time in many years, I stand by my opinion that Bleach is better. Musically it is not, but it rules on pure fun. In Utero does have the best opening line to any album.

Crosses - Crosses: This is a side project of Chino Moreno (Deftones) and some dude I am not familiar with. Pretty cool sound.

BOY - Mutual Friends: Not sure where I bumped into this but I enjoyed it.

Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton: Not new, but it is the singer from Metric, so might be enjoyable to some that enjoyed that when I brought it up before. Been listening to it again lately.

I've been going back to a lot of classic rock bands recently. Mostly 60s and early 70s stuff. AKA the peak of hit music.

I've also wandered a bit into krautrock for the first time. Specifically Can and Faust. There's some pretty interesting stuff there but nothing I've fallen in love with yet

Been taking a history of rock and roll class, which made me download a bunch of songs I needed to know (just YouTubed the ones I don't like as much). There's quite a bit of Beatles in there, which obviously makes me happy. Also found out that I really like Bob Dylan and The Animals.
