Re: General TV Show Discussion
I've been anticipating this. Finally caught up on all the movies so why not? Just found out the only reason I had cable though was because the previous renters had some shoddy splitter hooked up. But that stopped our internet from working and these days internet >>> TV. Hopefully CTV will have episodes online

Re: General TV Show Discussion
Joss Whedon is my hero, ESPECIALLY after Firefly and Serenity - which I STILL watch periodically. I will give anything/everything he directs more than a chance than any other tv show.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
Here is some new stuff I have been watching with the new season plus Netflix:
Sleepy Hollow: More ridiculous than I could have imagined. I'm going to try and watch more, but this honestly isn't really what I wanted from this show.
Continuum: I watched the pilot of this on Netflix and wasn't expecting much since its a SyFy show (apparently its really a Canadian import which I didn't realize), but it was surprisingly cool. Liked it way more than I thought.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Loved this pilot. Only issue I had was that I knew a bunch of the jokes from the trailer. Great cast. Really funny.
The League: New season seems to be a bit of a step down for some reason. Can't put my finger on why. Still good though.
New Girl: Working through season 2. Really enjoying it. Should be caught up before long. I have the new ones recording for when I get finished S2.

@lenny - You're my kind of man.
@pspiddy - You'd get that kind of humor if you continued Buffy. Joss Whedon always sprinkles some laughs in his shows/movies.

Are there enough people watching How I Met Your Mother or Parks for a thread? Even just two or three might make it worthwhile.
I really loved the Parks premiere.

I'd be down for a Parks thread. Premiere was great too. Andy especially was fun.

Where'd the anime thread go? been watching paranoia agent...I god damn love Satoshi Kon. His death was a HUGE loss to animation in general.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
So how is Marvel: Agents of Shield? I've been trying to cut back on shows I've been watching (Greenman will be happy to know I have officially cut Revolution). Therefore I am also debating whether to even start some new ones. I think the only ones I'm sticking with is Brooklyn Nine Nine and The Originals. The former I love and the latter I've been basically watching half the characters already for years so feel invested. Hopefully it turns out well.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
I only saw the pilot. It was good, but not great. Characters felt predictable, writing was witty, but felt like it was trying to be too witty. It worked in Avengers because the best lines went to Iron Man, who should be that witty. But when everyone is talking like that, it's really noticeable. Also disappointed in the lack of Marvel names. It's about a science experiment gone wrong with a super strong black guy in the beginning and can't throw us a bone and call him Luke Cage or have someone nickname him Power Man?
Revolution does please me for your sake. Don't know how that thing was trending on Twitter this week.

Shield is going all right, but nothing amazing. There was a pretty cool scene at the end of last week's episode with Samuel L. Jackson. After the first couple episodes are done and we're not playing catch up with the characters is when the show will truly start to shine in my opinion.

I am still going to try Shield but I haven't heard the greatest things. Have you tried The Crazy Ones Bret?
Another new show I've been watching is Michael J Fox show and I find it pretty forgettable to be honest.

Shield is only all right, but I have faith that it will get better.
I watched the first episode of The Crazy Ones and it was all right. Still have the second on on my DVR.

I'm watching SHIELD. Don't really know what I think yet. I do love the whole giant universe they're creating by connecting this with the movies. I just fall head-over-heels for that stuff

Re: General TV Show Discussion
I just want obscure Marvel references. It can be Revolution mediocre, if they treat the Marvel universe with as much respect as the movies have, that's good enough for me. Also really hope Marvel can snag the Fantastic Four rights from Fox. Just imagine how good that show would be if Dr Doom was the big bad villain always scheming things.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
Hey I was thinking we try a TV Now Watching/Book Club type thing but only if people are interested. Take a short series that is on Netflix. Watch one episode a week and discuss. I was thinking we could try Sherlock (which is six episodes so far I think, but each is like 1.5 hours). I am open to suggestions/thoughts on this.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
Not sure if you guys have seen this site, but this guy takes various TV show characters and Simpsonizes them. Pretty cool. I guess some spoilers for some characters might be included. He does Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy and so on. Plenty of stuff people here like.

We should do the TV club thing for BUFFY! I kid. I have a hard time finding time for television shows since I already watch way too many, but if you guys do a series I'm interested in I might give it a go.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
I'd do Firefly if anyone was up for it. I never watched all of it so that'd be cool. And it's short enough we could actually finish it. Those that have watched it would just have to keep their mouths shut about future stuff like when we did SotC for games.
@spiddy: Is that the one with Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, but they put like a score overlay on it because you know CSI: NY watchers don't know that games today don't have scores? I recall seeing some commercials for a show doing that but it might have been another CBS procedural.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
The TV industry, and I guess the older-skewed TV audience that frequents CBS, NBC, and ABC according to the Nielsen ratings have always been clueless about gaming. 30 years later and they still use sound effects from the 2600 version of Donkey Kong to represent video games. It's amazing that every time a TV show other than a Matt Groening or Seth MacFarlane show comes on that I still laugh at how clueless they are, except for the shows that inevitably portray gamers as sociopaths to feed the stereotypes held by a lot of older folks about gaming.TripOpt55 wrote:I'd do Firefly if anyone was up for it. The Simpsons and Family Guy at least try somewhat to keep up with contemporary trends. I remember "Bart the General", from the first season of the Simpsons, and its parody of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out that was dead on except for the gore and violence, as well as Lisa getting hooked on a Crash Bandicoot parody in the late 90s and Homer playing Grand Theft Walrus during The Simpsons Movie.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
The Simpsons is still keeping up ok. More recent Simpsons episodes (about 2 years ago I think) have had Portal and Bioshock references. If I recall correctly they were 2 of the better episodes of the season, but they couldn't save the show from the episode about Moe's rag

Re: General TV Show Discussion
That episode was actually Moaning Lisa, not Bart the General. South Park does a great job as well with them too, Chinpokomon and Guitar Queer-o specifically come to mind. Hell I even remember one where Cartman's at a store and there's copies of Okami on the shelf.
