Watch Dogs Discussion

I've only been invaded three times. The first two times I found him right toward the end, but he escaped. The third time I never found him. I still have no idea where he was hiding. I did start blowing shit up on that one and brought the police down on me in the process. So I like to think he enjoyed the show I put on at least.

Guys, I can't stress enough how fun the mobile app is. Win or lose it's great. Losing makes you want to get better. That's pretty damn rare for a video game.

Still digging this. Almost done the story mode (three missions left). At various different points as far as side missions go. Think my overall progress says 68% or so.

Also five-star cop chases are pretty serious. I had to pull out all the stops to shake them on one recently.

I haven't been doing much of the story but I have been doing many of the side missions and mini games. I think the hype, as far as content goes, is well deserved. Ubi has done a great job with this and Black Flag.

I will say that the story isn't bad, it just can't compare to the gameplay. I'm not even mad at the last gen graphics and bad controls.

Finished the story today. It isn't terrible but its not good either. It was serviceable enough for me to still really enjoy everything else about the game. We can chat more about that when you guys finish though. Now im going back trying to get all the hot spots and side missions. Finished up the 20 crime detection missions think im going to work on the investigations next time I play. Cant decide if I am going to keep going or take a slight break and play something else for a bit.

You guys are way ahead of me so don't worry about spoilers. I don't really care. Just so you know where I'm at, I've cleared the first area of all side quests and am working on the second area. The last story mission I did was the one that opened up tier 2 abilities.

So yeah, I'm way behind you guys in the campaign but this weekend I plan on putting some time into it. As well as Dishonored.

You weren't kidding about the 5 star chases. I had one recently during a mission and it was insanely fun. It was during the day too so I'm sure that made it a little more difficult.

I started by plotting a course to a tunnel near the streets along the canal with hackable bridges. I then ramped off a roof and zig zagged through the streets and into the tunnel. I lost the chopper and busted a uey and headed back to the bridges where I went in a circle raising them. That gave me space to hit a back alley and switch cars. While in the car I used cameras to raise the blockers at the end of each alley. Then I made myself a snack and waited while I got a mission accomplished.

I usually hate car chases during missions but this game gives the tools necessary to make them fun.

My five star cop chase involved me hacking helicopters, jumping into the river, hiding under a bridge until a boat came by which I stole and rode off to freedom. Hacking really does make chases a blast.

I finished the game tonight. Really fun. The story itself isn't all that interesting, but as something to loosely connect together a bunch of fun missions it does enough for me. Only missions I didn't really dig were guiding people through areas with the cameras. I think there are only two though and they aren't too painful. I even thought tailing missions while still not that great were more fun than usual since you could just use cameras instead trying to stay close by sneaking.

I really liked the variety of side missions. QR codes and ctOS towers had a neat puzzle element. Others let you utlize your stealth, combat or driving skills. And they are all fairly fun.

I have completed all of the investigations, the hotspots, 20 crimes, the intrusion ones, gang hideouts and maybe another collectible (phones I think). I still have to finish up Fixer contracts, Convoys, the one where you have to hack five boxes in the area, and another one I am forgetting I think. I haven't messed with the online much but I will probably try that now.

Great game. Looking forward to the sequel. I hope they give it a couple years in the oven, but this has yearly sequels written all over it. Sold like crazy.

The fixer missions can get annoying. I can kill a civilian by barely touching them, but it takes running over a target a gazillion times while his homies shoot me to finish him off.

And I don't like preset missions anyways. "Go steal a car", "OK, now cops are after you even though you've been stealing cars all game no problem".

I do like escaping and takedowns; It's the age old problem of lazy programming I dislike.

Yeah I'm working on the Fixer missions now and they are a real mixed bag.

The inconsistency in the AI programming is what drives me nuts; Cars suddenly trying to get in your way, targets turning into Richard Petty, civilians leaping directly in your path, etc.

I still think this game is tremendous fun. And, as you said, if they put some time into it and not make it an annual thing there's potential to dethrone Just Cause 2 as the best open-world screw-around game. (OWSA™ Trademarked, bitches!)

You know what will help Watch Dogs 2's AI right? When it isn't cross-gen!

I finally finished the ctOS breaches tonight. How to get to a couple of the boxes really had me stumped. They have some pretty clever (or ridiculous depending on how you look at it) solutions.

I'm still chipping away at Fixer missions. I like the ones where you race through checkpoints just because they have some fun routes and ramps sometimes. I also like the ones where you have to drop off three cars. They are simple enough and it is fun to go as fast as you can or find a hidden quicker route. The download ones can be kind of annoying. The ones where you have to lose the cops drive me up the wall a bit!

I agree about some of the ctOS breaches. It took me a very long time to figure out the last one in the docks. I had to scale a vehicle, shoot a propane tank, and swim across the canal.

I'm the opposite on fixer contracts. I hate the timed stuff but I thoroughly enjoy running from the cops. And yes, the download ones suck.

I finished my 40 fixer contracts and think I might just be burnt out on the game. So I think I am done for now. I will probably head back to it sometime. I really did enjoy it though. I'd rank it slightly ahead of Infamous: SS. It is probably my favorite game on PS4 so far other than Resogun.

I did read that they would take their time with a sequel, but still might annualize the series. I assume that meant, two years until Watch Dogs 2. Then every year from then on out. I really loved the improvement from AC1 to AC2 and FC2 to FC3 (ubi didn't make the first game, so that was basically their first sequel), so I am hoping we see something similar with their second stab at Watch Dogs.

I really hope that's true. I'm not ready to give this the nod over Black Flag or inFamous, but the potential is greater than both of those.

I'll still be posting here so drop by and talk shit. I'm still only in the docks so I'm sure there are many complaints and much praise to be discussed.

I definitely will. I might even jump back in soon, who knows. I didn't really explore the online stuff much, just because I was so shit the few times I did try it.

I'm not going to tag spoilers because this is the game specific thread and said game has been out long enough that anyone playing for the story would have done so. I'll try and be vague though.

I'm only in act 2 of the story and it's starting to wear on me a little bit. Not because the chapters seem endless, which is fine; no, because I'm talking to a kidnapping victim and they go from crying to laughing and playful banter in a split-second. And this is without any indication that they are either a) playing along or b) the voice acting and writing is just plain shit. I paid closer attention to the subsequent chapters and still couldn't tell what the deal was.

The game is still a blast but I probably shouldn't have cleared most of the areas before doing the story. Now I'm at a point where it's explaining to me exactly how I should be doing the things I've been doing for many hours all ready. That's the problem with many open-world games not named Demon's Souls.

I'm glad I put this down for a while and came back to finish the story. It's still so much fun racing around the streets like Batman. And I just got a "Tommy" gun so shit goes down! I have to be honest though, I have no fucking clue what's up with the story. I guess that means it's either really dumb or really boring or both.

I finished the Story. Again, I couldn't care less about the characters or the plot. That usually wouldn't matter if the missions were fun. That is not the case. I'd say about a third of the missions were enjoyable while the rest were tedious and annoying.

However, if I were to judge this as a Batman: Year One/ Batman Begins sandbox simulator, it's still an awesome game. I can't really compare it to Second Son because one is Batman and the other is X-Men. I'm going to finish Second Son next so maybe I'll have a different opinion afterwards. About the gameplay; fuck the plot and characters in both games.

I really liked the majority of the story missions myself, so while the plot/characters were boring, I never minded myself since I was having fun.

It may be that the end-game seemed heavily focused on that hacking mini-game where you turn the pipe-looking switches. I hate those not because of difficulty, but it is a waste of time that interrupts the flow. So basically I would be having fun and then the plot would force me into one of those mini-games. If I could turn off those and the stupid "follow to download" missions I'd probably have a different opinion.
