Anticipated Games

I just found out they ruined battle mode. I'm pretty upset about that. Battle mode is literally my favorite thing to do in Mario Kart. If that's not fun I'll probably regret this purchase.

Yeah, the Battle Mode doesn't sound very fun... although it does sound very similar to the way Wipeout does battle mode and that wasn't horrible. It just stinks we don't get any arena maps like previous games. I'm sure they will be happy to charge us $10 for DLC though with classic battle mode maps.

What is everyone's favorite Mariokart game? I like the SNES one the best.

DS was my favorite. Actually think it, 7, and Double Dash are the only ones that have held up and were good to begin with.

The DS one for sure, minus having the blow up the stupid balloons in Battle Mode. It would have been perfect if not for that.

I really liked the Gamecube one but my favorite will forever be the original. The SNES controls are some of the best ever to be implemented on any gaming console. And correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the DS version the same as the Gamecube version? I don't know where my wife's copy is so asking here is much easier than snooping through her stuff.

They're not the same, but they had some courses from the GC one.

I honestly can't stand the way the SNES one controls. It feels unplayable to me.

That's honestly the first time I've heard anything like that about it. I think the controls are tight and intuitive. Well, I haven't played it on a SNES in a little over 5 years but my memory should serve correctly seeing as how much time I've put into the game. It could also be a generational thing since I'm considerably older (re: nostalgiac/archaic) than you. /shrug

I like the 3-D Mario Karts in general, but I'm not a fan of the 2-D Mario Karts.

I know I'm in the minority but the Wii version is my favorite. It really checks all the boxes that are important to me. Local multiplayer with four players (and way more options than the other games so far in that regard), good analog stick controls (I don't love d-pad controls as much, the 64's analog stick controls have aged terribly as well) and lots of great courses (best selection of original courses, I generally prefer the creativity available in the 3D games, plus it has classic tracks).

Everyone complains about the items (you can adjust that stuff in local) and rubberband AI (after a week, I stop playing singleplayer), so those aren't really issues for me.

Double Dash is probably second for me. If DS was on a console it would be up there. It has great courses.

DS would be my second favorite, but I just think the courses on the SNES version are so great. The controls aren't super, but the game still holds up. The items were perfect and not too powerful. The better racer one the game, not the luckier racer with cheap items.

You guys are crazy. The original had perfect controls. I know you guys are really good gamers so the controls issue can only be explained by some sort of insanity or T-Virus. Itchy... Scratchy...

I have no idea how anyone can think those controls are good by modern standards. Few games have aged as poorly as the original MK IMO.

Mario Kart Double Dash is probably my favorite with Mario Kart 64 being my second favorite of the console ones mostly because my family and my little brother played with me the first time playing MK64. Plus it got my folks to game with me and they didn't play any games prior to that, those were some good times. I'll give Mario Kart Wii props for the tracks, it had great selection of courses, and Rosalina, but only that.

On handheld, probably it's between DS or 7. Can't wait for tomorrow. I'm organizing the game night, or game day for anyone wanting to join on MK8.

You know what they should add as dlc for Mario Kart 8? This:



The karts could hover, and they added a Mecedes Benz so why not the De Lorean? Would make alot of sense.

I busted out my PSP to play some Mario Kart and I have to say I stand by my opinion. I guess I see it more as a platformer or, in modern games, something like Demons Souls.

However, I think the Gamecube and N64 iterations are superior after revisiting the original. But the controls are spot on and hold up well.

Agitha is cool, but the music is amazing!

God that game looks so stupid but amazing. Between that, Smash, and Bayonetta Wii U looks fantastic for the fall.

I've recently gotten back into Musou games, but I would have bought Hyrule Warriors anyway just because it's Zelda.

So...who's gonna play the new SPACE Civ with me in October? =D

Another World (Out of This World) drops this week cross-buy for PS4/3 and Vita. I couldn't find a price but if it's $10 I may jump. It's a classic.

After Civ III, I swore off the series. Too addictive.

Checked out a trailer for Dragon Age Inquisition. I always thought this series was by far Bioware's weakest, but count my hype through the roof now. I'm really digging the new hack and slash combat especially since it's taking a really tactical approach to that idea. The world looks gorgeous and fun to explore and what few story elements I saw kept that fantastic Bioware writing. Plus, it has a focus bar like Jade Empire!
