Had a hard time choosing the song as I love Alternative Metal and Jazz equally, but ultimately went for Charles Mingus. You just can't go wrong with the coolness of Jazz.

I find a lot of Mingus is relatively easy to get into compared to a lot of Jazz. It's either because he also draws from classical music at times, or because Radiohead pretty much copied and pasted his style into one of their songs

That album (Mingus Ah Um) isn't a bad starting point for listening to jazz. Some of his other stuff can get pretty chaotic, though.
