Dishonored

You know, having started up the game again, I was ready to give it a proper chance again. I had originally started playing Dishonored right after bioshock Infinite, which I felt had very similar themes but were done much better. But now that I'm playing it again...that isn't it. There's just something about Dishonored that doesn't click with me. And for your guys' sake I will play it and beat it, and there's so many good mechanics in it and I really WANT to like it more but...hmmm.

You know, I'd REALLY like to podcast about this game with you guys (I say podcast, but I'm not important enough for that, so SKYPE CHAT about). This game is SO frustrating to me, but hard for me to necessarily say why. But seriously, it would be fun to chat in a more free-form way about this once we all complete it either voice or text.

I'd be down for a podcast if you guys are interested it. I can record and edit it if we do a Skype call or something. Let me know what you guys think.

That sounds like a plan. I'll make some talking points notes during this play through. We shouldn't get lazy and ignore this idea. It would be super fun.

I was actually about to say if we want to do it for real we should figure out some mutual talking points. Or killa actually does podcasts so how would you suggest it?

I'm really enjoying the creativity I have in how I go about things. They did a good job of giving a linear approach to Elder Scrolls/Fallout 3 without losing the feeling of freedom. Can we just go ahead and call this Thief Lite: The Game Thief Should Have Been?

As in Thief the remake I assume?

It's not Thief as in the original thief though...

The remake, yes. The original, put in context, is one of the best pc games of all time. Up there with the best of its generation like CIV 3 and System Shock.

I think talking about this game by comparing it to Thief works quite well as a starting point for really getting into the nitty gritty of why it works/doesn't work. Gonna play a bit more tonight, I do find myself liking it more on this second playthrough than the first time but I'm still not getting SUCKED into it.

I'm enjoying it a lot. Mainly because of the diaries and text stuff. The gameplay is really neat in that I get to fuck around but in a linear structure. The areas I've been to so far (barely any) reminds me of the MGS 2 demo where I wanted to reload and see how quickly I could take everyone out and not be seen.

Like, it's not straight up survival but more of how much of a badass I can be. I'm not saying the AI is anything special, more of that it feels old school where the screw ups are my fault because it's so basic.

*edit* I also want to let you guys know how I'm playing:

Every time I hit a new area I save. I play until I hit an auto-save and then reload to see if I could do better. So basically I am doing every area twice. The first is me scoping it out and the second is trying to be quick about it. I have no idea how you dudeaboos play, but I thought mentioning that might give a moral compass. /shrug

Coming up with talking points seems like a good start to me. I don't really have any good secrets to making a good show. Still learning myself honestly.

Bleh. I just spent 3 hours trying to get a perfect on the first level (brand the religious overseer) only to finish with one body found. I don't know how that happened because I was clearing fools like mad and ditching them in shadows.

I'm cool with it though since I didn't see any sort of bonus for doing all stealth anyways. I was hoping for some upgrades or blueprints or something. I like being rewarded, damnit!

@Killa: I was comparing trophies to see how far ahead of me you are and I'm catching up. Also, it looks like I'm doing stealth while you're doing combat. That should be fun to talk about.

Oh, and I'm reloading in this more than even Splinter Cell. That's impressive.

I played a little more tonight and feel like I'm nearing the end game. But yea i wasn't having much success with the stealth so I decided to kill anything that stood in my way. When i first started I was reloading a lot then i was like fuck it, im going to live with my mistakes haha.

I'll have more time to play this tonight and tomorrow night (had some work stuff to catch up on), and we will have to compare some notes.

I'm horrible at checking this thing, but I'd be down with recording depending on when you guys wanted to do it.

Ha! Every time I screw up I take that attitude and go on a rampage. And then I reload after I've quenched my bloodthirst.

This game is really good. I'm not sure what made T-wolf lose interest. Is it because it is so similar to Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls that you have brand fatigue? That's totally understandable.

I'm looking forward to discussing it with you guys and letting the answer creep from my subconscious. But I've got a lot of catching up to do...that's my mission for tonight and tomorrow

That's a good idea actually. If we PM you the talking points you can pick the best ones and just kind of MC it (while you racist rant of course)

I just had a strange thing happen to a save file. I was reloading an auto save because I was spotted and it dropped me in without credit for any runes or bones. My user save file was good so not a huge deal. Just a heads up about auto save.

I always quick save like a fox.

HOLY SHIT, Killa! Playing this reminds me of watching you play Stealth INC. That was so much fun when you got your mic working.

OK, finishing this is my weekend goal. Actually, it's my goal tonight. I'm on a mission where I'm invited to a party or some shit. That's gotta be halfway through, correct?

There's...2 more missions after that? But they're not as in depth.

I should be done soon. At least I hope so. The mission I'm on now is called The Loyalists.

I realised I've picked up a terrible habit of pausing for lengthy amounts of time. I saved right before entering a new area and then paused so I could do a few things around the house. Came back, entered the new area where it auto-saved. I reloaded the auto-save after being seen and noticed the time discrepancy between it and my previous save was 50 minutes.

So yeah, sorry about taking my sweet-fucking-time finishing this up. Then again, that says a lot about the game. Take that any way you want to.
