Top 5 Halloween Specials

We're getting closer to Halloween and since I think it would be best to save the last week for games, why not do Halloween specials for television shows first? Also, this is the one thread where there is a right answer for the number one spot. And I know for a fact me, Aja, and San Andreas will get it, possibly Spiddy as well.

I think I've seen all the Treehouse of Horrors even though I stopped watching The Simpsons years ago. Assuming that is what you are talking about (though it is still silly to say there is a right answer obviously... there is not).

Oh definitely pick an individual episode (or pick five separate ones) not just the whole of Treehouse of Horror as one entry. That is sort of like picking a game series and placing it against single games in other series.

It's early, but I really loved Toy Story of Terror that was just recently on. Combat Carl was awesome!

I can only think of 3 right now, so I'm gonna sit and think of it a little more. I can say I fail and will not have any Treehouse of Horror on my list.

For some reason, whe nI was a kid the treehouse of horror where they find out that there's another Simpson kid living in the attic eating fishheads actually freaked me out. In particular the shot of him observing everyone through the air grates. Wouldn't scare me at all now, but back then it really fucked with my brain.

Alright, here's my list to get started

1. Simpsons Treehouse of Horror VI- Intro was weaker than the last five, but it has my favorite segment where all of the giant advertisement statues destroy the town when Homer steals the Lard Lad's donut. Couple that with Groundskeeper Willie as Freddy Kruegar (the flashback of how he died is one of my favorite scenes in the series) and Homer trapped in the third dimension and this manages to beat the Shinning.

2. Spookyfish (South Park)- One of my favorite South Park episodes as well. Putting Barbara Streisand's head in each corner and calling it "Spooky Vision" was pure genius and the episode was so absurdly funny. Especially love how Stan's mom reacts when she thinks he's killing people instead of the fish.

3. Epidemology (Community)- Community is literally the only live action sitcom that could make a zombie outbreak canon. And that's why I love it. Dean Pelton is especially great here.

4. Invader Zim's Halloween special- Forget the name, but this was a great mix of funny and dark humor I love this show for. Especially since it probably has the most "Dib's head is big" jokes, those always kill me for some reason.

5. Spongebob Halloween- The Scardeypants bit was already great enough, especially the twist at the end where Patrick shaved everything except his brain to make his ghost costume work, but the second bit is the real reason I love this one. His snail gets sick and Squidward accidentally gives Spongebob its medicine. Which then turns Spongebob into a snail. One of my favorite episodes.

I forgot about that South Park one. That was pretty great. Are you guys watching ToH again via DVD? I'd love to catch some of them again. I'm honestly not sure which is my favorite. Feels like my favorite segments are spread among a few different episodes.

I've actually looked at doing a blog for this like I did for Christmas and Thanksgiving the past couple of years, but I have a tough time choosing. There really are a ton of great ones.

Yeah, I got this one which I watch most of them then the seasons for the good ones it's missing. It's not the best collection, but V, VI, and VII are all great and XII is...okay. Wish it had IV or VIII instead.

1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 2, episode 6, Halloween. The plot of the episode revolves around the inhabitants of Sunnydale turning into whatever costume they are wearing. Buffy is rendered useless when she turns into a 17 or 18th century noble English lady. Laughs and hijinks and thrills.



2. Toy Story of Terror - Only out just this year, but I know it will be an all time favorite that I watch every Halloween until I die. Combat Carl is awesome.

3. Scared Shrekless - Gingerbread Man's story - like always - is awesome!

I can't really remember any others so I"ll just go with 3. I know I've seen others that I liked (How I Met Your Mother had some good ones), but can't remember them.

I'm pretty late but:

1. Treehouse of Horror VI
I feel like this is the most consistent of the ToH episodes. Each segment is probably in my top ten for the series.

2. Treehouse of Horror V
You all know I love The Shinning. Time and Punishment is great as well. Nightmare Cafeteria isn't so awesome.

3. Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps (community)
I feel like the only person who liked this more than the zombie episode. That one was good, but the way each story fit so well with the character telling it made this one hilarious to me

I never did this either I guess! Not sure which order I'd put this in, but here are five:

Treehouse of Horror VI: I didn't get to rewatch these, but after consulting wikipedia for some summaries I will agree this one was best.

Chuck vs. the Sandworm: This is the episode that made me fall in love with Chuck for the silliest reason. This hilarious parody of the creator's first series (The OC). I probably like this episode the best of the bunch, but it doesn't embrace Halloween on the level of some of these others.

It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown: I got a rock.

Suburgatory "Halloween": I just find Tessa "bumping it" hilarious I think.

Happy Endings "Spooky Endings": Pretty great Halloween episode.

I'm drawing a blank on stuff that hasn't been mentioned. One that came to mind is a later season Frasier episode called "Tales from the Crypt" where there was this big Halloween prank war.
