Your Halloween Traditions
Since Halloween is coming up this month, I thought it'd be interesting to discuss our Halloween traditions. It seems to be a club favorite as far as holidays go. List whatever you like. Movies you watch, games you play, events you go to, things you eat... anything you try to do regularly on or around Halloween

Re: Your Halloween Traditions
There's only one I do and another my family does. I watch as many Treehouse of Horror segments as I can (try to at least watch all the 90's ones) while my sisters come over at some point so they can watch Hocus Pocus with my mom. They're obsessed with that movie and I'm sick of it because of them. I know every line and never want to hear any of them again.

My dad and I used to watch all kinds of cheesy horror movies all through the month of October.

Re: Your Halloween Traditions
Well I carve pumpkins. Usually one or two right around Halloween night. I unfortunately get no trick or treaters. I watch scary movies and old TV specials as well.
We used to do a Haunted House when I was young (maybe 10 and under). It was really awesome and is one of the reasons the holiday is such a favorite of mine. We have some old home videos of it. A family friend used to be the tour guide (he actually works in Hollywood now, most notable thing he did was Punk'd I think, but he still works steadily out there). He went with sort of a hunch back look. We had like a table and a dude would be under it with his head through it with a platter thing over it so they'd be serving him. We had an operating table downstairs on our pool table (we even used some organs from our neighbors butcher shop I believe). Then we sort of sectioned off three rooms around the table. One was a cave where my mom was a witch. the back was just a hall and we made it like they were stepping on bones. And I remember being excited to actually be involved in more than setup one year and I went under the pool table and would grab people's ankles... haha. And then in the other room we had meat hooks set up with fake bodies, but I had a tall uncle who would sort of be in there amongst them and jump out and scare people. And then my dad was out back as a gravedigger (had some fake tomb stones and graves dug) and he would run people out of the yard with chainsaw (no chain) to finish it. It was pretty awesome (even if it sounds a little cheesy when I describe it). Obviously we had a few different setups over the years, but this one sticks with me for some reason.

Re: Your Halloween Traditions
Trip, our family used to do something similar. I would never take part in it because I always liked to go through the thing, but we would have Halloween Hayrides. Growing my neighbors were my uncle and grandma, so we had roughly 20 acres of woods. They'd have trails after a hayride which would have coffins, witches, guns with blanks, chainsaws (no chains as well), and all sorts of stuff. It was great. They haven't done it the last 3 or 4 years but I was happy to find out they were doing it this year. They literally used to do it every year for like 25 years so I'm happy it is back.
I also watch horror movies. I'll probably get some candy now that I live in a subdivision and may actually get a trick or treater.

Re: Your Halloween Traditions
We get a ton of trick or treaters where I live so we sit outside with music and a few decorations to pass out candy (I eat a lot of the candy too...). I like to wear a costume to make up for when I was a kid, my family was going through a religious phase so I wasn't allowed to celebrate Halloween. One year we dressed our french bulldog in a shark costume too lol. I also started carving pumpkins last year and am much better than I thought I would be at it. We got quite a few compliments from the trick or treaters last year on those.
I also watch as many horror movies as I can throughout the month, and The Nightmare Before Christmas of course. And like I mentioned, I have to play Costume Quest too. So nothing too exciting, but I still have fun and love Halloween.

I'm in the camp that believes The Nightmare Before Christmas is more of a Christmas movie than a Halloween one.

Re: Your Halloween Traditions
I thought Nightmare represented both holidays equally. Like how I'll usually watch Scooby Doo around Halloween and 4/20

Re: Your Halloween Traditions
I get that there's a Halloween element, but the bulk of the movie is about these characters preparing for Christmas. I used to watch it during both holidays but now I just prefer it for Christmas.
Cool fact, I have the vinyl of the soundtrack.

Re: Your Halloween Traditions
I haven't seen it in a while but I felt a greater emphasis on Halloween than Christmas. I tend to watch it more on Halloween.

Re: Your Halloween Traditions
Turn off the lights so the trick and treaters don't knock on my fucking door and spend the evening doing what I always do.
Halloween is shit.

Re: Your Halloween Traditions
From what I know (Not much) you Murrikans make it into a much bigger thing than we do here. I don't really see the appeal of it myself. Although I just remembered I have that work Halloween thing, still need a costume for that, so maybe my opinion will change afterwards.
Re: Your Halloween Traditions
My town used to have a Spook Walk and my step-dad did the chainsaw thing. BEST THING EVER. After the relative silence of a bunch of weirdos following and jumping out at you—a chainsaw revving is terrifying.
