The Backlog Thread Empty Re: The Backlog Thread

Post by SanAndreasX Sun Jul 21, 2013 5:18 am

My backlog can be described in exactly two words: Fucking terrible.

Just this year alone, I have XCOM, The Last of Us, four Suikoden games, Tales of Destiny 1, and Lollipop Chainsaw that I haven't finished.

But meh. I enjoy my games. If the game industry implodes this next generation and ends up being a bunch of cheap-o bird-flingers and pay-to-win Bejeweled clones on cell phones and tablets, I'm well set to weather the storm. And if it doesn't, my backlog will grow. Twisted Evil

The Backlog Thread Empty Re: The Backlog Thread

Post by TripOpt55 Mon Jul 29, 2013 3:26 pm

Halo 4 is my big one. I play that with a friend and we just haven't made time to finish it. The rest of my unfinished games fall into two categories: games I wish I'd finish and those I just didn't like enough to finish.

Ones I'd actually like to finish, but haven't:
Okamiden: Loved Okami, was enjoying this one a lot, but got a new job at that time and was doing too much overtime and just stopped making time for handhelds during that period of my life. Now its been so long since I played it, it's hard to jump back in.
Jade Empire: I like it a lot when I'm playing it, but never seem to start playing it when I have gametime.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution: Just haven't given it much of a chance yet.
Spec Ops: The Line Honestly was bored as hell by the gameplay, but would like to finish it to see what the fuss is about.

If I think of some more, I will list them.

All of the free games I get from PS +. More a hard drive issue than me being lazy though. Working on finishing the Oddworld game we got for free, and then I'll move on to another freebie.

I don't consider games I don't like enough to finish part of my backlog. Way I see it, I decide when I've had my fill of a game, not the game itself. So even though I beat Metal Gear Rising, that's still in my backlog since I want to beat it on hard while I barely played any of Dead Space 3 before I was done and traded it in.

This thread inspired me to really take a look through my collection and try and knock something off. I decided to try and play through Gears of War 3. Started it with my brother, but we'll never finish it so fuck it. Just going to run through it without him.

Besides PS+ games there are some that I have actually bought like Rayman Legends. Working on one right now, and that's Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Like I've said before, Mario 3 is always in my back log.

I have a huge backlog and its mostly RPGs. Time and Eternity, Ni No Kuni, Neptunia V, Resonance of Fate. Yet I'm playing Mass Effect 2, and Nocturne, and FFIX. WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE?!

To be fair though Nocturne and ME2 are pretty much the pinnacle of eastern and western roleplaying game design respectively imo. So it makes sense I'd be playing those over the others, but still...

Yeah, I have an RPG heavy backlog...but I also have a lot of little indie games I got in indie-bundles that I don't care as much about beating. LIFE IS HARD

My backlog is scary. I have a lot of games and a lot of those are RPGs. I still have to beat Persona 2, Fire Emblem, and SMT Strange Journey (I might just leave this one as I mainly bought it to see what 4 would be like.) I haven't even started Chrono Cross, FF7, FF9, KOTOR 2, Dragon Age Origins, Fallout: New Vegas, Skyrim, The Witcher 2, SMT4, or Planescape Torment. And I want to pick up Ni No Kuni as well (Best Buy sale wasn't in canada so I didn't buy it)

And then there's the non-RPG stuff. Don't even get me started on that. I'm at the point where I decided not to buy a Ps4 anytime soon simply because I don't need any more games

You've never beat FF7 and FF9, or you're just replaying them? The reason I always get a backlog is because I continually want to play old and classic games I've beat countless times like FF7 and FF9. Just wondering if that's what you mean. I also need to beat Chrono Cross.

My problem is I keep buying RPGs. Xiillia in a week though i should play that through to the end cause its Tales.

Also i just remembered I never beat Blue Dragon and I've had that game since like day one. I really like it but it ALWAYS falls through the cracks for some reason.

There is not a single word in this post that does not apply to me as well. Smile

I think this year may turn out my new favorite. 2004 had countless amazing games, but with how Fall's looking I think this year could steal it.

Although I'm now playing Ni no Kuni and Vanquish - I was thinking about cracking open Bioshock 2. Would you guys highly recommend that I play the first one before I play the second, or is it generally alright?

I just finished the first one. I've always thought that the first one is the one to play if you're going to play the more important one. I've never played the second though, this is just judging from what I've seen on the internet

I've heard the first one was pretty good, too, but for some reason I bought the second one (perhaps in confusion). Blargh... Maybe I'll get the first one on the PC when I get it built. :p

Most people don't consider Bioshock 2 a proper Bioshock game (wasn't developed by the same studio, kind of a forced sequel among other things), would recommend picking up the first one. Especially if you have a gaming rig for the PC it's pretty cheap these days I think.

Mine would be pretty long too. I'm glad I was able to kick the online gaming habit that I used to have with games like Call of Duty. That franchise was just a money/time sucker.

So I was cleaning my room today. I had purchased a new stand to put all my games in and as I was arranging them when I realized I own more games that I have not played or finished than ones have have completed. Its kind of sad actually. I feel like more of a collector than a gamer sometimes.
