Weekly Top 5: Top 5 Sci Fi Comedies
This one is SUPER specific, but pspiddy wanted it and he says he wont be my friend anymore if I don't do it (possibly a slight exaggeration). Name your favorite science fiction comedies. Think we have a sci fi comedy planned for the now watching to kick it off as well.
I think in this case we're defining sci-fi as more traditional SF (so Shaun of the Dead doesn't count even though there's hints of a virus or something). Despite being so specific I do have a list for this one. I'd also say time travel counts as well.
1. Starship Troopers
2. Galaxy Quest
3. The Fifth Element
4. Groundhog Day
5. Back to the Future

Re: Weekly Top 5: Top 5 Sci Fi Comedies
This is gonna be a little difficult because I don't feel there are many great sci-fi comedies to begin with.
1. Back To The Future
2. Ghostbusters
3. Galaxy Quest
4. Sleeper (it's been 15 years since I saw it but I remember enjoying it)
5. Armageddon (the first half of it, anyway)

First off, I need to watch Galaxy Quest. The funny thing is I saw this movie in Plinkett's review of Attack of the Clones as a frame of reference, but never knew what it was. Shit drove me nuts because it looked interesting, didn't know it was a comedy.
1. Ghostbusters
2. Back to the Future
3. Groundhog Day (Not really sure if it's sci-fi, but if Kubert says it's okay, I'm not raising any objections. This movie rocks.)
4. Spaceballs (Come on people!)
5. Futurama: Bender's Big Score
Wanted to put Wall-E, but not really sure if that's comedy. It has some fun slapstick, but just doesn't feel like a comedy the way some other Pixar movies like Up or Toy Story 3 did.

Spaceballs has its moments but not enough for me to make it on a top 5 list. Mel Brooks was at the start of the down slope of his career with this one (or was that History of the World Part 1?).
I forgot Idiocracy. And I'd truly put Wall-E as a sci-fi comedy. May have to change that list now.

Yeah, I agree with that. Spaceballs has great moments but as a whole...meh. I must say I still haven't seen Idiocracy, been on my list for years. Wall-E is definitely a comedy in my book as well.

1. Galaxy Quest - just a really great movie that I always seem to watch when it is on.
2. Firefly/Serenity - Joss Whedon is funny and he makes characters that say funny things.
3. Back to the Future
Can't really think of any others.
