I've actually seen all of these. When I think of Squeenix I think of games like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, Parasite Eve, Xenogears, etc.... You know, when they were the best of the best. Now they're just dumb buttholes

Not sure where to put this, but pspiddy I saw in the $5 movie bin at walmart Bill and Ted the cartoon show. $5, if that interests you. I wrote down the UPC that you can give to your local walmart associate to type in and see if it's in there before you go digging.

On the other hand, though, carrying a console entirely on your own and being the main provider for your handheld are pretty good motivations to keep making good games.

I agree with Aja. If Nintendo can carry its own platforms, why bother? Sega got even worse when they went third-party, aside from a few poorly-selling flashes of brilliance like Valkyria Chronicles. Now they're pretty much down to Sonic, Aliens, and a European soccer sim, and if Alien: Isolation doesn't sell, they'll be pretty much Sonic and soccer. They don't even really exist in the United States anymore. Go to www.sega.com and you get redirected to the UK site.
EDIT: Oh, yeah, and Total War, I guess.
I guarantee that if Nintendo went third party, they'd be like every other third party developer and focus on two or three franchises and let everything else die completely. The motivation to do any other kind of game would be completely gone.

I think they're just trying a little too hard to be different sometimes. They want to be leaders in everything even if it means not copying a working system.

Meh. A console's UI is probably the least thing I care about when buying one. As long as it plays the games I like, I couldn't care less if it had an interface like the PS1. :
I can kind of see where people are coming from though.
@ajapam: I'm considering getting Alien: Isolation, but I'm going to be reading reviews first. This is one of the very few times you folks will ever see me consulting professional reviews. Most of the time I know what I like and don't give a damn about the reviews unless the game is fundamentally broken.

I loved the the noise of the PS1 when starting up (or maybe music, not sure what you'd consider it). And all of your memory card icons were adorable.

@san: It seems a little rough around the edges but people seem to agree that the core game is solid. So it's basically par for the course this year.
I think Sega is banking on it selling as a "true" Alien game. It seems to take a few risks to emulate the original movie, so even if it has it's issues maybe fans will pick it up.

It's not so much UI on the Nintendo consoles as just usability in general. Like when I buy something on Nintendo's e-store and have leftover money because it wont let me just pay in actual currency and I have to buy the fake money in chunks with real money.
Shit like that. Or the fact that I still need friend codes in 2014 to add people I'm not immediately in the vicinity of or the fact that I haven't figured out how to delete the annoying demo thing my 3DS downloaded automatically even when I go through it's unclear data management screen.
That said, I haven't touched a Wii U so I can't speak to that.

You know there's an option called "add necessary funds" every time you want to buy something on eshop that does that exact thing.

it should default to off but it asks you without really explaining what it is, and i think most people just mash buttons through it
