The Meaning of Your Handle
I thought since we had the avatar thread it be kind of neat to have this. Always kind of wonder how people pick their usernames.
Mine should be pretty obvious. It's a pun with my name in it referencing the Chesire Cat from Alice: Madness Returns which is one of my favorite games. I like making puns out of my name for some reason lol

Write your initials, and repeat the first one between the rest of them. You have now recreated the birth of Ajapam.
Why? I don't know. I just thought it up one day and I've stuck with it ever since

Re: The Meaning of Your Handle
My 8th grade Japanese teacher was from Japan and barely spoke English... we convinced her that the formal way to say names in English was to speak of youself in the third person. So we all started calling ourselves 'The Matt' or whatever your name was. She actually called us that... and like the terrible 14 year old we were, we let it go on all year. So I've just always used that for online names.... it makes me laugh at how horrible we were to that poor woman.
A lot of my friends call me Meat... for no particular reason... so that's where TheMeat from 1up comes from.

Re: The Meaning of Your Handle
Mine used to be Ngamer-90 at 1up, Ngamer meant Nintendo gamer obviously, and the 90 because I was from the 90's or born in that era and well I loved the 90's. That and I just needed something quick to make my account. Now I'm called Captain N, IDK I never even seen the cartoon but one time we played UC2 with the gang, someone called me Captain N and I said why not? Plus alot of people on 1up called me Hey Nintendo Guy, heck alot of people called me like that before back in the day.
And it did make perfect sense to me because Cap N plays alot of different games, like me. Sometimes I use Captain N07 because someone is already using the original name, like on Live or twitter. I put 07 because it's my favorite number and it's lucky. Not really original like everyone here, but yeah, that's basically it. I was originally gonna call myself Nintendood or something like that, I know lame pun lol I think Cap N is the name I'll be using for a while, I already have some drawing ideas for it.

A lot of people think I'm a fan of GTA: SA, but my handle is just a play on my real name. I actually didn't really care much for GTA: SA, or the GTA series as a whole. My favorite GTA was actually Vice City.

I used volvocrusher every time I played Counter Strike: Source. There were two reasons, one was that I drove my sister's Volvo and got in an accident. The other was how my car in high school was a Volvo that was pretty much a piece of shit. So my friends and I would talk about how we'd like to some day put in a demolition derby when I could get a decent car. Hence, volvocrusher.

Re: The Meaning of Your Handle
I just ripped mine off from an Aphex Twin song but accidentally switched "avid" and "acrid".
I was a huge Aphex Twin fan in college (and of electronica in general) and I also chose the name for one of my email accounts.

Mine's a play on my last name, and it's what my English/Film teacher in high school used to call me as well. Best nickname I ever got.

Re: The Meaning of Your Handle
My wife commented that we had "Too many wires" under our TV, most of which were connceted to consoles, and thus my online handle was born.
I use Talkingbook for PSN. When I first registered my PS3, I looked through my CD collection for inspiration and found it with a classic Stevie Wonder album. This happened before Too many wires, otherwise that would probably be my gaming handle too.

I really like too many wires as a handle...it's catchy. That's approved.

Re: The Meaning of Your Handle
The name I used on 1UP was because I was a huge Cactus Jack fan as a youngster (and even now, despite Foley's broken down state). I needed a quick online name and that was the first thing that came to mind.
My current handle (and gaming handle), I came up with when I first got my 360. I had a buddy registered as Lance Gas so I thought it would be funny to make a name that went along with that, thus Methane Max was born. Sadly, a month later his house was robbed and his 360 was stolen. So that broke up our dynamic online gaseous duo. He chose a different handle when he replaced his system.

Good ideas. I love that Talking Book album. Wonder was the man in the 70's.

As far as gaming handles go, my XBL tag comes from a line from Blazing Saddles, without the punctuation.
The PSN name comes from an MST3K line, courtesy of Tom Servo. I forget what movie he was joking about, though.

Re: The Meaning of Your Handle
It was TripleOption55 which is a football play and my number from when I played. I just felt it was too long, so I shortened it to TripOpt which worked out good for the Trip nickname. I had not really intended that, but a friend over on a Jak fan forum I used to go to started calling me Trip which I thought was a cool side effect.
Re: The Meaning of Your Handle
Most call you Trip now. Funny how that works out.
My 1up name SpaceMonkey comes from a Placebo song called Space Monkey. It is from their 5th studio album Meds.

Re: The Meaning of Your Handle
My friends and I all used to call ourselves by our names backwards. Unfortunately Mot is taken almost everywhere and I don't have any favourite number or whatever. So I chose to put Drum on the end because I like playing the drums. And it works because a Tom is a drum

Re: The Meaning of Your Handle
The 34 in my 1up name was there because I cared more about hockey when I made that account, and that was Miika Kiprusoff's number at the time. He would've won the flames the stanley cup if the refs didn't suck
I promise it had nothing to do with rule 34...

I knew some but forgot. I think a long time ago I did a blog about this. Once I start backing them up from 1up, if I did in fact make a blog about it I'll post the then answers on here for fun.

Re: The Meaning of Your Handle
Even though I'm a raging atheist, I was raised very religiously by my grandmother. I think the Nephilim is an awesome story. Angels tempted by women of earth birthing a super race. A super race that scared God enough that he had to flood the whole freaking planet. That story had to have come from somewhere and it's pretty cool. I just like the general idea of striving for perfection nietzsche style and controlling our own fate, becoming strong enough to challenge God.
The first time I needed a handle was for FF11 and Nephilim was taken so I added an i because it sounded more like an Elf (my character) I guess, and I've just stuck with it.
