What have you been reading?
I am just trying to make up some of those threads we have on 1up. Feel free to discuss what you've been reading whether books or comics or whatever else you might me checking out.
Re: What have you been reading?
I finished the second omnibus of The Walking Dead a few weeks ago but I haven't had a chance to start the third since school started again. Its ridiculous how much better the comics are compared to the show.

Re: What have you been reading?
The last book I read was Alan Sepinwall's The Revolution Was Televised. Sepinwall is the main TV critic over at hitfix.com and the book focuses on 12 shows that he thinks makes the 2nd golden age of televison (Oz, Sopranos, The Wire, Lost, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, The Shield, among others), how they were made, highlights of the shows and interviews with the creators. Well written and it makes me want to check out some of those shows that I may have missed.
Right now, I'm resuming where I left off with Justin Cronin's The Twelve.

I read Sepinwall's blog but never checked the book out. That is pretty neat.
I'm about 120 pages into A Storm of Swords which I'm really loving. Best start of the three books so far I'd say. Going to be a good season I imagine.

Damn Trip, how the hell did you pass me up on Game of Thrones? I have to get back to it. I'm only halfway through book 2.

It's been pretty long since my last comic. Thinking about getting some Astonishing X-Men ones though. It's going to be a long wait until the next Walking Dead Volume, the last left on such a huge cliffhanger.

I like the Joss Whedon ones, but that is no surprise since the blood boils in my wiener for Whedon.

Not sure... haha. I made it a goal to get at least part way through 3 by the time S3 started and went for it.TheMatt wrote:Damn Trip, how the hell did you pass me up on Game of Thrones? I have to get back to it. I'm only halfway through book 2.

Storm of Swords is my favorite of the series so far. It will be your favorite when you finish it.

Still going through Kafka on the Shore (on chapter 18 exactly). Sometimes the book feels pretty slow, but there's just something that keeps me reading it and I fell that later (which I guess will happen) both, Kafka's and Nakata's stories will get together and something will happen. I have a feeling about it.
Also, Johnny Walken. Just Johnny Walken.....

Re: What have you been reading?
hmm, free comics? sweet.
on that note, green lantern, batman, batwoman, saga, walking dead,
but the real deal: the Manhattan Projects. Whisky drinking einstein, cannibal oppenheimer, computer AI roosevelt, aliens, nuclear bombs, imperial japanese combat robots, (pauses to take a breath), freemason sex parties, transforming enrico fermi, treason, nazi scientists with robot arms, and Jonathan Hickman. Seriously. This is the best thing since cigarettes.

Re: What have you been reading?
Just finished recently Kafka on the Shore. Brilliant book.
At first it was a bit slow, but once the plot started moving, I got hooked up. I think I specially liked the elements of magic realism, the dialogues, which could get pretentious or overly long to some, but found them very great and the questions about life, existence, memory and how we live which actually feel natural here and not pretentious at all. Maybe some of the plot points weren't explained very well and I still need to figure out what happened in some parts, but those are just small nitpicks, as in the end, I felt I just read a beautiful book.
And now I don't know which book I should continue with.

That's too bad, I think Buffy's his best work. I love all Whedon though. From Dr. Horrible to Dollhouse to The Avengers. He's a bad ass dude when it comes to characters. Can't wait for Shield.

Re: What have you been reading?
I read the Buffy season 8 comics and enjoyed it. I don't read comics that much these days.
Finished Justin Cronin's The Twelve. Just as good as The Passage. The third book comes out in 2014. I can't wait that long. Now I plan to finish an H. P. Lovecraft compilation.

Re: What have you been reading?
If you enjoyed 8 (as did I, but didn't particularly care for the issues in the 20's), you should definitely pick up Season 9. More scaled down approach. The only thing it is really missing is the Whedon touch, since he doesn't really write any of the issues. You do know that these are the stories forming in his mind though, and that always has me at peace.
I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying Angel and Faith (which runs along with Buffy season 9). Angel was always one of my least favorite characters from the Buffyverse, but seeing how he is trying to make up for his actions in Season 8 is awesome, and having Faith there is great too. The writer really nails the characters.

Finished The Blade Itself and then flashed out Man in the High Castle. Why can Philip K. Dick never end a damn book?

Re: What have you been reading?
I finished A Storm of Swords... oh my god. It just kept giving. Best of the first three books for sure. Some stuff at the end just blew my mind. I may take a break from the series and try out something else. Or I may just grab the next one... not sure.
