TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
We have two big gaming events this weekend, so I thought I would make a thread to discuss them. It starts with The Game Awards on Friday night and then PlayStation Experience runs over the weekend. Here are some things we will be seeing over the next few days.
For TGA:
-15 or so world premieres or something (this is Geoff lingo so could just be new trailers I don't know)
-First look at Metal Gear Online portion of MGS5
-Special EA Announcement
-New King's Quest
-New Looks at The Order, Bloodborne and No Man's Sky
-Plus Awards none of us likely care about
For PSX they have a list of stuff both at the event and livestreams for us folks at home here on the PS Blog. At the very least we should get a look at Uncharted 4 at some point this weekend.
Anyway figured we could discuss them both in here if anything cool happens.

The Awards weren't too bad. Nothing too exciting, but the embarrassing moments were kept to a minimum. Zelda looked really good and was an actual cool thing to save for the end.
Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
Zelda looked nice but other than that I thought it was rather uneventful. At least the show itself was a big step up
Edit: Forgot about MGO. 4 turned into a bit of a mess with all of the lagswitchers but it wasn't bad at it's core and this already looks way better. That was probably the biggest highlight for me. I wasn't even excited for MGO before this

Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
It looks like the PSX keynote (starts at 1PM Eastern) will start with an Uncharted 4 demo. Not only do we get to see Uncharted, but if they start with Uncharted they probably have some other big announcements.
Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
One thing I loved about the Uncharted 4 footage: He left the battlefield with guys still there. Tells me that using the area to your advantage in stealth will be a key part.

Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
Highlights of PSX for me:
Uncharted 4 looks awesome. I still wish they'd do a different franchise but the combat looks vastly improved
Vita has some good games coming. Still ports, but they're ports I want to play
Drawn to Death looks pretty original and it has pickups for once
Lowlights:
The Order looks boring
No Man's Sky trailers continue to tell us absolutely nothing new. I'm actually getting less excited for it after each trailer
Square Enix's FF7 announcement was utterly baffling

Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
Uncharted looked so impressive. The fight looked like the most dynamic one in the series yet. Big huge area with multiple routes. They've taken the traversal options in combat and really turned it up. Things like the grapple and slides while shooting or into finishers. Little tweaks to the hand to hand. More stealth options. AI can actually lose you and as Greenman mentioned you can just move beyond enemies even ones you've already engaged.
Very good show overall. The FF7 announcement was hilarious. They kind of got me with the return of a beloved PS character that turned out to be Fat Princess.

PSX Highlights:
Uncharted 4: pretty much what's been said before but using the environment to your advantage (e.g., Drake sliding down that slope while shooting and then intercepting him) was a nice touch. I'm hoping there are plenty of points within an area to do just that. I like using the pinion for climbing. I like how Drake is still muttering to himself during all this mess.
Street Fighter V: The jump in visuals that IV presented probably won't be as dramatic but the teenage SFII fan in me is hoping this future installment can get me back into the series after IV (and its add-ons) scared the shit out of me.
No Man's Sky: Still beautiful. Still beautiful sounding. Still pretty vague in all that you can do but I'm hoping the act of discovering new areas really pays off. Just the idea of exploration is so appealing.
Bloodborne: The co-op and random dungeon/areas aspect of this footage has sold me in ways that previous trailers haven't.
Drawn To Death: unique presentation/gameplay. So damn silly.
What Remains of Edith Finch looks fascinating yet I don't know what to make of it. The Forest had an effective trailer.
I've been sold on Batman: Arkham Knight since it was announced. The footage here reminded me of the super-creepy Scarecrow sequence from Arkham Asylum. June 2 can't get here fast enough.
All those indies and cross-buy/play titles, most of which I'll play on Vita and PS4: Super Time Force Ultra, Bastion, Shovel Knight, Grim Fandango, Gang Beasts. Maybe Resogun on the Vita.
Not all that excited for The Order but that's because we keep seeing variations on the same material. Give us some story content, a reason to care about these characters or the world.
No interest in Until Dawn. Don't care if Hayden lives or dies.
Killing Floor 2 felt like a case of "trying too hard".
The FF7 moment made me smile. It's a pipe dream for a reason, people.
Not sure about Severed although that trailer felt so chaotic for me to know where I stand on it. Drinkbox is a great studio, though.
I need to get on the Yakuza series someday.

What I hope is that Final Fantasy VII sells enough that they realize "We would really make some big bucks off of this game." I'm buying it. If there's trophies, it would be foolish of me not to platinum it!

Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
Fat Princess Adventures intrigues me, but I hope they'll have the traditional online battle modes as well. I spent more time on PSN with Fat Princess than any other online game last generation.
Yakuza 5 is coming Westward. Awesome. I hope this means Sega's lightening up on keeping its Japanese games in Japan.
Bloodborne is probably my most anticipated PS4 exclusive release at the moment.
I'll definitely be getting SF5.
And as for FFVII... meh, I know I'll get it and play the hell out of it. As always.

I cannot wait for Final Fantasy VII. So is it confirmed there will be trophies? I hope the game comes out for Vita too, better fit for resolution and I love playing on shitter, break, lunch, bed, stranger's houses.

You can already, but this apparently looks a little cleaner, maybe? That really was a huge cocktease by Squeenix.

It's a port of the PC release. It actually would've been a cool game for a vita, though still not worthy of the announcement it got.

When I saw the link on IGN I was hoping for a remake, but in all honesty whenever they talk about the game I get excited. The pivotal gaming experience of my life.

I doubt there will ever be a remake of FFVII. It'd cost Square Enix millions to make it look as good as FFXIII or FFXV, and I really doubt that a remake would sell well enough for them to recoup their investment.

Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
A vita remake using graphics like Dissidia's would be good enough. Honestly thats what i want. My opinions on that game are heavily weighed against it cause of how bad it fucking looks by todays standards
Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
The only thing I think looks bad is the character models. The FMV sequences suck now, but they amazed me back then so I can't just look at them now and say that they suck. I still think the backgrounds are beautiful and the battle animations still get the job done. Also watching the summons is still cool.

Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
I'm with Kay on its look. The backgrounds look off in some way. Like they had a nice picture before and transferring it over really washed it out. Everything else is just PS1 era meh. Except the super detailed cutscenes. I like how those early 3D ones feel like claymation. Fallout had the same thing.

If Square would have remade it 10 years ago I might have been excited but as they are now...I really hope they don't.

Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
I would love to see a FFVII remake but right now is not a good time. I would rather they finish XV and KH3 first and not start another project that will take 10 years.
And the announcement for the port was an amazing troll. Too funny. I know I will play it and cry over trophies being too time consuming.

Re: TGA/PSX 2014 Discussion
Honestly, I'm fine with FFVII as-is. I still think the enviironments are some of the most awesome I've ever seen in any game and the battle scenes are still fun. As for the field character models... Eh. No worse than the field character sprites in the pre-VI games.
I'd really rather they invest the time and effort into new games.
