I enjoyed it but my gauge for good Fantasy fiction may be off...I liked that it didn't focus on the different "races" and such as much and went more character driven but it's still very straight forward fantasy. THAT SAID, I'll be reading the second book so consider that a recommendation.

I'll probably check it out then.

I picked up A Feast for Crows. I missed having a book to read before bed the past couple of nights. It has become a bit of a habit and I like it.

Reading before bed is the only way to prepare for sleep.

I think I'm going to read Game of Thrones this summer.

Been reading a collection of short stories...it's ok. I expected it to be creepier from the description but so far only a few have tickled me. But I suppose that's inherent in all short story collections.

NO IDEA what I'll read next.

Started again I Robot. I have this book for like four years and I never finished it, but now that I returned to it, I started from scrath the book because now that I have a better level at english, I can understand better the story.

So far, I already finished today the first story, Robbie, and I plan to continue before going to sleep.

I, Robot is one of my favorite books so I approve. More for the ideas than the writing, but still...awesome.

The collection of short stories I was reading was good writing but I was just bored. Period pieces (especially those in the 1940's or whatever) are hit and miss for me. I love some, hate others. This one was not gripping me at all despite the ridiculous amount of praise heaped on it. I might take another stab at it sometime and I feel bad quitting when I'm already 40% through but...meh.

Does this I, Robot have anything to do with the movie?

I finished A Feast for Crows. I enjoyed it but not close to as much as A Storm of Swords. Not nearly as exciting. The whole split the characters thing kind of hurt it too I think. And I don't think the split favored me personally as far as my favorite characters go. I assume based on just characters, I will enjoy the next book more. I did order that. I was hoping to pick it up at a local store, but their price was ridiculous. Will miss having a book the next few nights though. Should have ordered it ahead of time, so it'd be here when I finished AFFC.

I've been reading Shantaram and it's REALLY good so far. Has a lot to do with picking out the nuances of another culture, which is generally something I can relate to right now (do I sound pretentious enough yet?). But in all seriousness, given the book stays this good for the next half, I'd highly recommend it.

I'm still working on A Dance with Dragons but was going to order a few new books to try out when I'm done. Any sci-fi suggestions?

1984's my favorite book, so I'll suggest that if you don't mind dystopian sci-fi. I've also heard good things about World War Z. Any other recommendations would be superhero comics with a lot of sci-fi if you'd be interested, otherwise I don't have much.

Neuromancer or Snow Crash for more modern-cyberpunky sci-fi (I recommend the former over the latter)

The Martian Chronicles or I, Robot for some golden age sci fi

And Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for funny sci-fi.

Thank you both. I am going to take a look at all of them and pick one out. Going to pick out another fantasy book too (The Blade Itself or The Black Company I think) and just have a couple of books to choose from. As much as I'm loving ASoIaF, I am looking forward trying some books that aren't 1000 pages! A quick look and these suggestions will be a good bit shorter which will be a nice change.

I finished A Dance With Dragons. Onto some other stuff now I guess. Going to browse the bookstore. If anyone wants to talk about A Song of Fire and Ice I will make a thread or I can even give you my email. Let me know.

Been reading Mass Effect comics. Really recommend these to ME fans, was kind of skeptical that they could make the backstory that interesting, but how Liara got Shepard's body was really exciting and well told while how the Illusive Man founded Cerberus gave fantastic fanservice and was really fascinating. Really recommend those two to any ME fan, they're called Redemption and Evolution respectively.

+1. Love that book so much, my favourite by far.

I finished Childhoods End recently (Evangelion references it so naturally I had to check it out) and it was really damn good, very much enjoyed it. Currently reading through Catcher In The Rye. About half way through, don't have much of an opinion on it at the moment.

I ordered 1984 (thanks for the suggestion guys), The Chronicles of the Black Company (it includes the first three books) and a Fringe tie-in novel. Kind of rolling the dice on The Black Company instead of just trying the first one, but this will save me money in the long run if I do like it.

I could go for some 1984 discussion. It's been a while since I've read it, though... At the very least I can talk about how much worse the movie was

Anybody read anything else by Orwell? I've read Animal Farm and an essay he wrote called Shooting An Elephant for a philosophy class. Both were good reads

Animal Farm was great. That was one of the few high school required reading assignments I enjoyed.

I liked Animal Farm too. Was good when I read it both before and after I learned about the Russian Revolution, as it should have been.

Haven't read Animal Farm but I know the gist of it and the ending. I'll read it eventually, I actually knew the ending of 1984 before I read it and still enjoyed it completely. Got two other Orwell books sitting on the side: Down and Out in Paris and London, Keep the Aspidistra Flying - Haven't read 'em yet.

Finished Catcher in the Rye, did enjoy a lot. Ordered The Hero With A Thousand Faces which should hopefully turn up soon.

Reading the 2nd book of The First Law series. Fantasy is easy reading, also just finished Mona Lisa Overdrive because CYBERPUNK *wheedlywheedlyguitars* and I'm chugging through The People's History of the United States as well.
