They marketed that movie to the wrong people. The trailer makes it look like The Transporter. I still loved it, though, and so did my friend who's mainly an action or car movie fan

Sidenote: the same friend loved 2001, so... take that, Neph. Wherever you are

Re: Movies You've Watched Recently

Post by AlexC-25 on Sun Mar 17, 2013 11:31 pm

Last Friday I watched Oz the Great and Powerful (the first movie released in 2013 I watched) and last night I repeated Captain America: The First Avenger.

On Oz, while I had some small problems with the pacing, some parts of the script and I saw coming some of the twists and situations that would happen, I had a great time with the film. The visuals were amazing, the 3D actually works here, the acting was good (specially from the three main witches) and like Rise of the Guardians did it last year, I just felt like a kid again. It also helps that the movie actually made twists to some family movie cliches like the reveal of the liar and in the case of Burton's Alice in Wonderland, the last battle.

Capt is still as good as when I watched it back in 2011. While the second half came too fast and really, it's not my favorite of the superheroe films of 2011 (that honor would go to Thor), it was still a very entertaining movie, from the setting, to the action, emotion and the first half was a great origin story.

Captain America might actually be my favorite of the Phase One Marvel movie. The first Iron Man is in a battle with it, but I loved the hell out of Captain America - and the supporting cast is so damn good.

Tommy Lee Jones!? Perfect. The scene with the steak dinner alone is epic.

I bought the new Batman Trilogy set on Blu-Ray over the weekend. It's a 5 disc set that comes with the 3 movies and 2 special features discs (for Dark Knight and Dark Knight Returns) and a 64 page picture book of the trilogy. I just watched the special features and some of them were actually pretty good.

I'd also like to point out that not once on the special features did they mention Talia or why she was included in the movie at all... they completely ignored that character. Just like they should've done in the movie.

I've got that set as well but I haven't watched all of DKR supplements. Weird that Talia isn't mentioned; I guess that's in case some idiot who's never seen the film actually watches those features first or they still act like it's a plot twist they must keep secret. If Nolan still did commentaries I'm sure he would've brought it up.

I will go with Brazil first, I put up an obligatory "GET INVOLVED IN MY LIFE WHETHER YOU WANT TO OR NOT" status on facebook about it and Brazil was voted up.

Watched 50/50 tonight...was pretty unimpressed. Like it nailed certain emotional points involving the sickness and everything but I just felt the character himself didn't really have a personality. He was just...a dude with cancer. And he had very few friends, and I don't know. It was just kind of weak.

That said, when it worked it worked really well, but I jsut feel the writer was more eager to write about the emotional moments of being sick than the characters or the situations.

I think you'll like it. Chances are you won't think it deserved all the hype and acclaim but I still believe it's a solid procedural/thriller.

It was alright. Worth seeing though, for sure.

I started watching Love Exposure (didn't finish it as it's 4 hours long) but so far it's feckin' amazing.

Don't try to understand time travel after watching Looper. The only way to enjoy that movie is to completely shut your brain off. The movie makes absolutely no sense. It's a handful of interesting short stories about time travel (many of which are contradictory) mashed into a movie.

Watched Neverending Story with the kids. That movie rocks.

Oh and Ajapam. Your friend didn't like 2001, he just pretended to... like everyone else.

Nah. He just likes sci-fi. I mean it's 2013 and this guy still gladly lets the world know that he doesn't give a shit about global warming. That's about as far away as you can get from a bandwagon jumping hipster

Argo was good, but not Oscar winner good. The concept was amazing, but they didn't go as far with it as they should have. I mean, getting them out of there was exciting and everything, but it would have been the same effect if they were just sent some passports and disguised themselves out of there. The whole film crew angle was an afterthought later on.

I enjoyed Argo. I'll see it again just to watch Alan Arkin and John Goodman; I love the old pros.

Argo was pretty cool. The late 70's and early 80's were some odd times, man.

Watched yesterday a chilean film called No, which I believe was one of the nominated movies of this years Oscar's. Very Good film.

For those who don't know, it's a movie set in the late 80s about the last days of chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, but it focuses on a group of commercial makers (if that's the wrong definition, correct me) and how they created a campaign to persuade people for voting NO to Pinochet continuing ruling the country, as due to international preassure he had to call a plebiscite.

Not only it's interesting in the part of how commercials are made, but also had great script and acting, and I liked they way they shoted the film, as it resembled perfectly an 80s VHS home video and gave the film (together with the set work and vestuary) a feeling like it was from that decade.

Got around to watching Brazil, that's a cool little movie that. Probably the best film Gilliam ever did.

Just saw Spring Breakers because the movie review blogs I follow have all beem raving about it. Has anyone else seen it? It's one of those movies that's either genius or a complete hackjob. I'm undecided but it certainly raises a lot of issues. Left me feeling pretty depressed about our whole fucked up culture and society... and worried that I have a daughter...
