Re: General TV Show Discussion
God damn Stranger Things is good. There hasn't been one thing I haven't enjoyed. Winona Ryder still has it. Not articles of clothing that she stole but her acting.
When it comes to horror this is how you present it, less is more. I'm six episodes and haven't seen much of the "mouth breathers", but damn do I get the chills whenever trouble is afoot.
It's like the kids from The Goonies fell into the Twilight Zone.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
I really loved Stranger Things as well. Just finished it a couple days ago. My only real complaint was that
I'm not sure what's in the works for a follow-up but I'll definitely be hyped for that
- Ep 4/5 spoiler:
- I was shouting at the screen for Jonathan/Nancy to join up with Joyce. That drove me nuts for an episode or two

Man I just caught up on The Night Of (on HBO). Absolutely riveting so far. Can't wait to see where this goes next.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
We saw the first episode and loved it but stupid comcast doesn't let you use HBO Go to your PS4 so we keep forgetting to hook in the laptop to our projector (it's a bit of an ordeal) and keep watching it.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
I'm watching this documentary series on Netflix called Last Chance U about this junior college football team. Really great so far. I think I may finish it tonight.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
Started up Halt and Catch Fire. It is solid so far. From what I understand it really improves in Season 2, so I'm more excited to see how things go/change as I keep watching.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
Watched the first two episodes of Vice Principles and I guess I should give up on liking Jody Hill's brand of comedy. Too mean-spirited for my taste.

Amazon has a pilot up for their new Tick show. As a huge fan of the character, it's pretty much perfect. He comes from out of nowhere just to spout off a bunch of hilariously cheesy lines while doing superhero things. I can't wait to see more.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
I don't mind mean-spirited, but I didn't think the first two eps of Vice Principals were funny, so I probably won't be back. Been hearing mixed things since I stopped watching which hasn't really gotten me excited to give it another shot.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
Using a free trial to check out Amazon's Instant Video service. Watching this show Catastrophe on there. Very funny. The two leads have a very unique... not sure the word I'm looking for... rapport perhaps? The way they talk to each other is just great. Really enjoying it and will jump into Season 2 soon. Going to explore some of Amazon's other original shows after that.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
Finished Gravity Falls. Really liked this show, a lot more than the sum of its parts, had a great mystery arch with fun plots in each episode. Characters were great and the two big villains of the series were fantastic. Also full of great foreshadowing, my jaw dropped at one point towards the end of the series because of how a twist was in plain sight the whole series. It's on Hulu and you can buy it on Amazon Prime. I'd recommend it if you have the former or don't mind paying the cash for it.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
i have returned just to tell you all about Miraculous Ladybug
probably my favorite show airing right now if not of all time. Its basically spiderman as a magical girl anime, but its not actually anime its french. Lots of cool action and clever plotlines
the main villian is pretty cookie cutter but his power is probably the greatest thing ever. He turns normal people into villians and gives them superpowers based on their irl problems, and the plots involve fighting said villian and resolving the persons problem

Watched a few of the new shows premiering so far this Fall. Loved Atlanta which is Donald Glover's new show. Fairly dramatic-skewing half-hour, but it had some laughs too. Tackled some pretty interesting stuff in the first two episodes from homophobia to police brutality. Really excited to see where this goes this season.
Better Things was alright. Sort of reminiscent of Louie, but less vignette-y I guess? Quarry was good. A hitman drama series on Cinemax.

I know I'm late but I finally finished Breaking Bad...that's a hell of a show. It doesn't beat Deadwood and The Wire for me, but still up there in the upper echelon for sure.

I'm plowing through Bob's Burgers right now. As much as I love The Simpsons, Futurama, and King of the Hill, I'm surprised that it took me this long to start watching it. But I'm hooked. Kind of reminds me of the first couple of seasons of The Simpsons.
This seems interesting enough. Never heard of it. Is it on Netflix?

Bob's Burgers definitely has an early Simpsons vibe with a lot of Community season 1 in there too. It's pretty refreshing to see a family sitcom where the dad is the sane one among a bunch of lunatics.

I thought Bob's dropped off in the 5th season, but I haven't seen the new one to see if it bounces back.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
Just got caught up with a bunch of TV I had sitting on my DVR... I saw Trip say something about it, so I'm going to add to it... Atlanta is great! I like the premiere episodes but the one from this week really sold me on it. The scene with the drug dealers out in the woods was one of the best scenes of a TV show I've seen this year. It had a ton of really subtle comedy and explained a ton about every character on the screen without really saying much. Definitely going to be one of my favorite shows going into the fall.

Checked out the pilot for Son of Zorn. I could easily see this show turn out bad as episodes go on, but I'm definitely sticking with it. I really like the concept and think they can get a ton of funny material out of it.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
I love the idea of Son of Zorn, but the pilot didn't do much for me. I will keep watching in hopes that it will pick up. Pilots aren't always the best representation of what is to come. I like the cast too.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
Yeah, it wasn't full of great jokes or especially well writteb, just that if they can find their footing it could be a really good and unique show.

The two best pilots I have ever seen are Lost and Dawson's Creek. What are your guys favorites?

My favorite would probably be The Spectacular Spider-Man. Futurama, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Spongebob Squarepants, and Rick and Morty also had really good ones.

It's funny, because the two I picked I ended up disliking a lot towards the end of their runs.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
Lost's is definitely one of the best. I guess I'd say Veronica Mars or Scrubs off the top of my head. I suspect there are some great pilots I'm forgetting about that were on shows I was less into overall.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
The pilots for Lost, Breaking Bad, The West Wing, The Sopranos, Fraiser and Chuck are memorably awesome, off the top of my head.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
Dragonball Super finally got its English dub last night. I'm so happy to finally have a Dragonball show back on, even if it will take over half a year to get past the ones rehashing the movies and nearly a year to get to the saga I'm really excited for. Here's hoping for a marathon or two to get us closer. Either way, Dragonball is back and I'm happy.

Checked out A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix. If you don't remember the books or movie, it's about three kids who are each prodigies in their own way and lose their parents then have to keep Neil Patrick Harris' character from exploiting their custody laws to get control of their inheritance. He does an amazing job as a lunatic and Patrick Warburton narrates pretty much the same way Ron Howard did in Arrested Development. It has a Tim Burton esque style and some really smart dark humor, I'd check it out.
