Re: General TV Show Discussion
I didn't see it but one thing I think the reviewer missed was
- Spoiler:
- how many times Ted would say or imply it was fate the two of them met. Who the hell would say that when she's been dead for six years? That's what you say when you're happy with how things turned out, not when you're sad

Shield is getting really, really good. Does anyone else watch it?

Nope, like I said before, if you have a super strong black guy in the Marvel universe for the pilot and never call him Powerman or Luke Cage, you fail fanservice. Which was the main reason I wanted to watch.

I'm not good with my comic knowledge, but have they fixed that, Bret?
And I do watch it! Haven't seen the latest episode because I haven't gotten to watching Cap yet. I realize it could probably be better, but I LOVE what Marvel is doing.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
I'm not bothered by lack of super hero cameos. There has been a couple Thor people from what I remember, but I really like the episodes that revolve around the Shield agents that the show revolves around. Right now there's a lot of whodunnit type moments and I like those a lot. Based off of what I seen from trailers it seemed like the last episode had a lot to do with Captain America.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
I pretty much want the opposite, a show that embraces everything in Marvel rather than another Joss Whedon show. I like his work in movies and comics, but something about his TV shows just bore me senseless. I'm much more excited for Netflix's Marvel shows, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage's all sound awesome. Will probably watch the fourth one too (forget who it is) for when they have them all team up.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
But the number of other things they're doing is why I think that a huge number of cameos isn't necessary. I do hope they slowly increase the number, and maybe do some really big things around Age of Ultron. However, if they had lots of cameos from the start, it would have taken away from the main characters.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
And it's also called Agents of Shield, it's not a show called Marvel's Super Heroes. Before the show came out I knew it would revolve around a group of new characters so I wasn't expecting Wolverine or Spider-Man or Cable. When it makes sense they'll start having more cameos but overall it's about the 6 main characters of the how and how their story can be progressed.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
Doesn't change that I have no interest in the show without the cameos. It still has Marvel before it and yeah, they do need to introduce the characters, taking the other extreme and flat out ignoring that it's the Marvel universe outside Phil (who's not even a comic character) in it, which was the exact feeling I got from the pilot. If they had a plot that Marvel never really covered, that would be one thing, but when the episode's about a super strong black guy and they don't reference one of the ten guys who could fit the bill even once, that's just failing fanservice.
I never said I wanted any of their A-listers either, that's who the movies are for. I actually was excited for their B and C listers to make an appearance here, guys like Moonknight, Dr. Strange, and all of the superheroes' lesser known and less powerful, but still cool villains like Silver Sable and Hammerhead (not those specifically because I'm not sure if they can use Spidey's on this show, but ones like them would be cool).
I just thought the pilot was boring. The characters were way too witty where they came across as douchebags and the plot was nothing new with an end that was both predictable yet acted so smug how it had an awesome twist ending. Hated the tone, hated the characters outside Phil, and hated the plot is enough reason for me to not continue watching this show for now. And I'm okay with that because they have the Netflix shows to give me what I want.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
The beginning of the show was so so but the last half of the season has been really good. One reason why that super strong black guy wasn't any particular Marvel hero though is because it was a power that was given to him by someone, so he wasn't really a super hero. I've always found the beginning season of shows to be the worst because they have to introduce characters, get a feel for how the show will be made, etc.... The second half though has been really good, and the upcoming episodes look to continue with the good form.

I really love how you really never have any idea where a Rick and Morty episode will go. This show's so unpredictable

I am so happy that B99 and Rick and Morty came along this year because the returning comedies have felt kind of ho-hum this year.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
Watched the first season of Six Feet Under. It never hit the height of the other HBO shows I watch but I got into it a lot quicker than most of them. I wasn't a fan of Claire or the mom at first but they grew on me over the season. It's also pretty hilarious at times, especially the death scene in the season finale. I'll keep watching for sure

Spectacular Spiderman: The Complete Series came out on Blu-Ray today so I'm going to rewatch a bunch of episodes while typing some reviews today. Hopefully I can get through the series in time for Amazing Spiderman 2. Then rewatch it once I'm done. It only got two seasons and ended on a cliffhanger, but this is second only to the fucking Simpsons for my favorite show.

I finished up Rome today. Season 2 felt a little rushed, but otherwise a great show.
I also watched the first couple episodes of Fargo this week which has been great so far.

I don't know where to put this as besides HBO, most of it is online but does anyone here watch Vice and its many documentaries? I've been hooked on them recently. And their HBO series (which is now on youtube) is excellent.
I've always wondered about Rome, I heard mixed things about it, but I might have to check it out now.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
Finally caught up with Hannibal, just in time to feel that Friday's season finale can't get here soon enough. This show is amazing. Gruesome and unsettling but intelligent and thrilling every step in the way. I'm so glad there's another season to look forward to.
T-Wolf, Rome is definitely worth your time. I'd agree with Trip that the first season is a little stronger (due to when the plot dealt with Ceaser and Pompey Magnus; those characters and their arcs were just stronger) but the 2nd season isn't anything to turn your nose up at. At all. And it's only 2 seasons so you should just breeze through it.
I bought the season box sets not too long ago and I plan to go through them someday.

I started watching a french drama called Les Revenants (The Returned) on Netflix. It seems really cool so far. I ended up watching four episodes in a row.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
Just saw the season finale for Hannibal and.....HOLY SHIT. Perhaps not "Red Wedding" level of shock and tragedy but awfully damn close.
I'm so glad it was renewed for another season. Now I've got to wait another year....AAAAUUUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

It isn't currently.
My sister enjoys the show. She's kept with it since the pilot. A big fan of Noah Wyle.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
I watched the first season of Rectify. I am hoping to whip up a review for my blog, but I would highly recommend giving this show a try. It is about a man who is released from prison due to appeal after being on death row for 20 years. If you can imagine the changes in the world since 1994, you can imagine how much of an adjustment it would be for that person (they even do a little something with the advancement of video games). Plus just being out among people. And being released into a community where not everyone believes he is innocent. It is really fascinating stuff. It is obviously not light material even if there are some fun moments sprinkled throughout, so you have to be ready for some heavy stuff, but this is A-tier television. The first season is only six episodes and on Netflix. Worth a look if the scenario sounds interesting.

Re: General TV Show Discussion
Checked out the first few episodes of Young Justice. It's basically a cartoon where all the DC sidekicks tell Batman and company "Screw this, we're making our own team. With blackjack and hookers." I'm not much for DC crossovers (think the Marvel universe is so much more interesting), but you put Greg Weisman's name on anything (Gargoyles, Spectacular Spider-Man) and I'll watch it. And it has the well developed characters and fast, fun fights I expect from him, definitely going to check out the rest.

I watched the first episode of Season 2 of Orange is the New Black. Really throws you off at the beginning. Ending was kind of predictable, but I still enjoyed the episode.
Re: General TV Show Discussion
I finished Orange is the New Black S2. The girl that played Morello was fantastic this season. The new villain was a lot of fun and I loved the ending.
I also started up Sherlock which is very good.
