Games You Played in September 2016

Post by TripOpt55 on Sun Oct 02, 2016 5:25 pm

Kind of forgot to do this the last couple months, but we'll try it again. Give us some mini-reviews of the games you played in September. Also what games will you be getting in October?

Super Mario Bros. 3: I was addicted to this for a few weeks. Still a great game. Old Mario games are crazy hard for me though. A

Super Mario 3D Land: And new Mario games are a little too easy. Not quite the utter delight that 3D World is, but it was a good distraction for a while. Some good 3D gimmicks, though I felt it was a little hard on the eyes at times. A-

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds: I finally got back to this one and finished it off. Really loved some of the later dungeons, and it looks great in 3D. But again, a bit too easy, as I finished with 0 deaths. Will have to come back and try it on hard. A

Super Meat Boy: Maybe it's a bit late to be doing a review on this game, but I started it over and actually beat it this time so I feel like I should. The mechanics in it are pretty much perfect. My biggest complaint would be that one of the bosses feels a bit too random. Still easier than old mario games A+

Clustertruck: I only played 30 mins to an hour or so of this but I think I got a good impression of what it's about. It can be fun but the levels are too randomized and the mechanics too imprecise for a game that requires this level of precision. Plus, the first person perspective only ever gets in the way. Half-price or less.

Rocket League: Rumble: More fun RL diversions. The powerups lead to some pretty cool goals, and so far there's always been tons of people to play it with. Still not as great as plain old RL, though, because the powerups add a degree of luck that can be pretty frustrating. B

I think that covers everything. I might've gone back to october but I don't exactly remember. I also jumped back into MGSV and have been working on that. My opinion on it has improved again.

The only new game I got in September is King of Fighters XIV. It has a huge roster of 50 fighters and some pretty solid fighting mechanics. It's honestly a lot more bang for your buck than Street Fighter V. A-

Oh, almost forgot. Ys: Memories of Celceta for PSVita. I bought this in July or August, after I read that it had been patched to work on PSTV (which happened last year in October). I just now started sitting down with it. I'm really digging it and spent a few extended sessions playing it. It's helping whet my appetite for Ys VIII on PS4. Nihon Falcom is such a great developer. A-

Games I'm getting in October: 7th Dragon III Code: VFD (already purchased), Dragon Quest VII 3DS, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II. I'd kind of like Attack on Titan on PS4.

Looking at my list, I really haven't been finishing as much as I normally do this year. Only one game finished:

ReCore: I love the game it wants to be, but it is held back from being that by some really poor design decisions, performance issues, glitches and a lack of polish. Grade: B-

Some other stuff I played:

Madden 17: Perhaps unsurprisingly, it is almost unchanged from the last time I played the series a few years back. Had fun playing it again though.

The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine: This is very good, but I just haven't made too much progress in it for some reason.

Song of the Deep: I like this more than I thought I would. A fun little metroidvania. Not very challenging, but very enjoyable exploration and great music. I like little touches like how the crab dude waves to you when you exit the store or the way your character portrait reacts to things in the HUD.

In October, I'm hoping to rent Gears of War 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4 (if not I'll just grab the Manor DLC on Xbox One), and Titanfall 2.
